Joe Has Transfer Funds But May Lose Some Players

Joe has a good meeting with Managing Director Derek Llambias and Owner Mike Ashley, at least in that he will definitely be given some transfer funds, and if some of our players, whose contracts are up in the summer, and they want to leave, look at those going also in part-exchange.

Joe Kinnear – ready to being in fresh blood at Newcastle

And it looks like Newcastle have already started talks with some of the agents of the players we are after. Kinnear, as we mentioned last night, has said that Ashley has pledged to to him to spend around £12m on the pair of them, and presumably that may not be all the transfer funds he gets.

Joe said:

“I have had a positive meeting with him. I put the case for bringing players in and we are talking to some players and their agents and clubs. We have to be ready when the window opens. I would like two to three players.”

“I have given them the prices. I told them two players who cost six million each, which is £12m. He said fine, leave it with me. I will come back to you. There are players available who will help us and we will have to wait and see because I don’t want to say much more.”

“Mike was fine with it. We have got one who is ’humming and aah-ing, but we are still banging on the door and he is still a player we have identified.”

“Instead of cash the club decided they’d come in for one of our players in an exchange. That would leave us stronger in one area and weaker in another.”

“It would be straight swap. I am not sure we would benefit from losing another player.”

And what Joe says in that last sentence is crucial, since we cannot afford to lose players we already have. We need to build up the squad, not weaken it.   🙁

We are assuming that Llambias and Ashley are getting some contract offers ready for Owen, Butt, Harper and other players Joe wants to keep, and that we’ll offer the terms to the players in a timely manner – like before the end of this month.

But the incompetence shown in the running of the club since last summer, suggests this may not be achieved.

i do have to say one thing i really like about JK, the way he actually comes out and says the details about the transfer targets we have in sight, without ensuing the wrath of said players managers by saying their names.
Hopefully, these “two 6 million pound” players will be sufficient, alongside some decent loans, to keep us stable and get us up the table.

    prediction for today…
    Toon 3 v 1 Stoke
    Man Utd 31 v 0 S.M.B
    🙂

I would swap Smith for a LB. Smith is a good player to have on the bench tho.

I think we should let JFK see if he can revitalise smith bewteen Jan and the Summer and see if he can re-light his playing ability. He did to a certain degree with Ameobi. If he still falls short of the mark then ship him out!

if he has 12 mil i think we need 3 players, a left back a defensive midfield and a right winger, i think a bit of wheeling and dealing is a must, if we got baines in for smith it would be a great bit of business, and for the players whose contracts are up offer deals to the players we want to keep and if they dont sigb they can go, no one player or person is bigger than the club.

Sorry but I do not trust the board not to mess the job up again, contracts for existing players should be done and dusted now, I have no doubt Joe is sincere, but this time those losers at their desks need to show they are capable of doing their jobs, I reckon their incompetence will go before them and clubs will be wary of them this time.
If they mess up this window then they need kicking out, even Ashley should realise that.

If Owen goes he goes….I only want players playing for Newcastle who want to be here….

    As for the others

Edgar : not good enough. Bassong has twice the potential.

Harper : Excellent cover for Shay (Who is going no where) Steve is getting on abit however if he is offered a contract I think he will stay. If he does not we have Krul and Forster to fight it out for number 2 spot.

Butt : now Nickolas has been steady over the past 2 seasons and always gives 100% however he is well past his best. Would need to be replaced however there are plenty of options out there…

Viduka: Now when the duke is fit (yes its a big if) I cannot recall anyone who has a better first touch or is as good at holding the ball up, taking the pressure off the back 4 and bringing others into the game. He has said this week he would love to stay. Think when JK says the agents are holding out, ofcourse they are. They want the best deal for there player which inturn means more coin for them. Hope he stays, and does his talking on the pitch….

Shola : hit and miss..personally I like the bloke. Played through the pain barrier for at least 2 years which did him no good. If he is asking for a guarantee of first team football then he may well be better off elsewhere. If he wants to stay and fight for his place? well thats a different matter

Owen : Value for money? I think not! Slightly past his best but can always nick you a goal. Apart from the big 4 and Sheik City, who is going to pay his wages? Exactly…no one..Have a feeling JK is playing the press a little. Hope the little fella stays. Dont mind my hard earned season ticket money going on quality. He has been very unlucky on the injury front.

ps…”Wheres ya Keano gone, where yas Keano gone” …..SMB

Am I missing anyone; “yes” Alan Shearer, and Tony Green as attacking midfield player?

How much for these players in todays market?

Toon Graeme – I thought of that to but came to the conclusion that we already have Ameobi trying to prove himself until the summer. We don’t need another player trying to prove himself, too little too late. We can’t have too many players like that then we will slip down the table every time. We need CONSISTANT players and no more dead wood.

Think we’re defo losing owen. You think the likes of Man city wouldnt snap him up on the cheap??

They can afford his wages easy peasy & no doubt he’d get no more injurys rest of his career knowing our luck. V bad loss for us id say.

I also wonder why Ashley would trust Kinnears judgement of players over Keegans lol…one has slightly better credentials than the other. Maybe Ashleys got something into his head.

I really want Ameobi to step up to be honest. He is so NEARLY there….he gets in the right places…but his movement generally is AWFUL.

But he looked to be forming a good partnership with Martins. We defo need cover for owen. Not sure i trust these two players coming in will be of good quality after Gonzalez & Xisco……..we will see.

Yes, I would swap Smith – or Harper too – for the right players. I hope Martins doesn’t go because we’d be fools to part with him. Would be sad to see Owen leave, but as long as lost just one striker I think we’d be okay. Maybe promote Ranger to the subs bench if we lose Owen?

How come we have no mf suvs on the bench again today?!! We don’t need 3 defenders on the bench and 3 strikers – much better to put Lua Lua in there in place of one of them! What’s the plan should a mf get injured (Owen back in mf, bring a striker on?)

Punkskunk, we left at least one team with a player ready to transfer on the last night before the window closed. If Newcastle do not tie them up straight away they will not wait this time.
