Geremi Starts For Injured Butt

Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear has been forced to leave Nicky Butt out of the side with a hamstring injury, and Cameroon midfielder Geremi returns to the side.

As expected Joe will again start with a 4-4-2 formation with Owen and Martins up front with a still 85% fit Viduka on the bench. Joe hasn’t elected to use a 4-3-3 formation and play all three strikers in the starting line-up.

22 year-old Spanish striker Xisco makes a welcome return as one of the substitutes, after recovering from a groin injury.

Both former Newcastle players Abdoulaye and Amdy Faye start, as does Andy Grififin, another former Magpies, during Bobby Robson’s time at the club.

Newcastle in fact have three strikers, in Xisco, Viduka and Carroll on the bench today, which shows that Newcastle plan on attacking Stoke this afternoon, and hopefully get all three points.

Howay The Lads!

Geremi starting for Butt does not sit well with me. He’s a better passer, I suppose, but can he really work as a DM?

Dunno Turkish….Kinnear makes it seem like he aint gonna play 3 upfront & he didnt try it last time.

Geremi coming in could either be brilliant or awful. Defensively…hes not going to be great…but he should add some creativity for our strikers. If he can get some through balls going it could go well.

    Jonny-

Geremi is a good player in my opinion but if he’s not on the wing it’s harder for him to whip in good crosses!

oh and who’s the best freekick taker on our team?

Butt is out now, Gutierez maybe?

There may have to be a 4-3-3 or some other formation shuffle if we pick up an injury in midfield, unless Taylor comes in and Colo moves into midfield (or Cacapa…).
How can we not have another midfielder on the bench, not even a promising youngster…..

Just heard on the radio and stuck at work til 4pm.

Should not even bother and go 4 3 3.

Even Bob Moncur thinks Geremi too slow for mid.

I’m glad Geremi is starting, I think this is the type of game he could shine in.

Owen is useless without Geremi on the pitch in my opinion.

Geremi is frustrating…his corners always hit the first guy, and sometimes hes crossing can be poor…but once a match he will deliver the perfect ball which Owen will take advantage of. He should be OK defensively as he played right back for chelsea and Cameroon,
