Another Argentine Lined Up By Kinnear

There are reports today that Joe Kinnear has identified Lucas Mareque as one of his top transfer targets for January – but be wary, it’s Sunday again. 😀

Lucas Mareque – 25 year-old 6’2″ left back for Independiente

The 25-year-old Argentine currently plays for Independiente and has probabaly been alerted by two Argentine players already at the club, Gutierrez and Coloccini, who have been stalwarts for Newcastle this season.

Kinnear has told the People today that he believes Lucas would be a good addition to his Newcastle squad.

“Lucas Mareque is a player we are looking to bring in from Independiente in the January transfer window and we are trying to find out what that would entail,”

“He is 6ft 2ins and height is something we could do with in our back four.”

“We have looked at the way our own Argentinians Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini have settled in, and we have spoken to them about Mareque and they have given us glowing reports.”

“We are also monitoring the situation at Hearts with their left-back David Obua, but like a lot of other clubs we’re monitoring a lot of players.”

Lucas Mareque has played 52 times for Independiente, having moved there from FC Porto in 2007. He played only four games for Porto Mareque before returning to Argentina on loan to play for Independiente during the Apertura 2007 tournament. Then at the beginning of this year he was bought by Independiente.

He has not yet represented Argentina, and was born on 12th January, 1983 in Morón.

He would be able yo settle in very quickly of course, and he shouldn’t come too expensive either, and we would assume that Jonas and Fabricio would give Lucas glowing reports of that it is like in the football cauldron city, which is Newcastle Upon Tyne.

We haven’t seen Lucas play, but if he’s anything like Gutierrez and Coloccini – sign him up Joe, and quickly.

We’d like to see the new additions come in early in January, so that all the work on all these transfers is completed before then. Yesterday’s extremely disappointing result makes it that much more important to strengthen the squad in January, because we’re just not good enough right now.

What do you think?

Comments very welcome.

we need players but they have to be of the right quality, no point bringing in players for the sake of it, we seem to have a decnt scouting system at the moment so if they say he is good enough ill go along with it!

Im sorry Gutierrez is class but Collicinni??

I know we paid 10 million & ALL OF US are desperate to have finally found a defender worth the money. Me also….

But we cannot keep ignoring his obvious mistakes. A 10 mill defender does not let ricardo fuller skip around him like that. He was also marking Faye on the free kick, this is no coincidence.

He has made a LOT of mistakes so far, Bassong has looked far more assured and consistant. Colicinni needs to step up still.

People need to calm down with how great he’s been. Show me where hes been consistantly great, have you seen the goals we’ve conceded ????

The only problem here is that is 1,68m. That’s about 20 cm lower than what Kinnear thinks he is…

I’m getting quite worried about Kinnear these days, he seems to be really lost.

No we need midfielders and CB not LB’s why does everyone think we need a LB we have a good one in Enrique and a good backup in Bassong and N’Zogbua if needed LB is one of our stongest positions we need 2CB’s 4 midfielders and some good youngsters for backup

The only Argentine we will bring in Jan is
    Diego Buonanotte

Colo is still going to be adapting to the English game as well as learning the language. Shove in all the goings on at the club and it doesn’t make it easy.

Once things have settled and we find ourselves in a position to repair and rebuild from where we currently find ourselves, can we possibly judge Colo fully.

    The same goes for Xisco.

In regards to the collocini comment, I’ve noticed its taylors influence on him somehow, we went 2 and 1/2 games without conceeding a goal, then taylor came on and collocini started making mistakes again. Don’t ask me to explain why but it just seems that colo gets unsettled by taylor

Colo asn’t to blame for the secong goal, Faye ran in from the edge of the box. Also, Fuller has been a handful for all teams so far this season. He has really upped his game this year in comparison to how predictable and ineffective he was against us last yr.

how is lb 1 of our strongest positions exactly? we have 1 AVERAGE left back in enrique, nzogiba is not a lb and is wasted ther, bassong is not a left back so yes we do need a lb

colo your a fool man! we need a left back badly, competetion for enrique (we need a lb to start and enrique to compete) nzogbia’s SHITE cover at lb he belongs on the wing attacking, and we all know seba is a cb. we have three cb’s, good ones, and one lb, an average one. how can you say we need more cb’s??
we need a commanding midfielder to play with barton, who is our best central midfielder at the moment in my eyes, easily.
world class lb, a world class cam and a couple squad players, we should then, in theory, be laughin

The problem with Colo is that he’s not the fastest…and not the best header of the ball.

Remember Wigans foward running right past colo and hitting the post before they equalized ??

West broms goal was indentical to that, player runs right past Colo and rounds Given.

Fuller did the same thing…just ran around him with pace and strength.

He is consistantly being shown to be a slower player.

Then we could go through the headed goals. The 2nd against blackburn, the 2nd against everton, the 1st goal against tottenham in the carling.

All players either easily out jumping him or him marking them badly. Theres more than that also. When was the last time you saw him head the ball away? Think about it. I didnt see it once yesterday v stoke…it was all Bassong.

    Its all on Eplmatches.com

If you think Colo’s been worth the money so far go look up the goals ive listed and watch him.
Him and taylor BOTH this season have been v suspect.
Only consistancy ive seen has been from Bassong..even in the few games hes played..not a single mistake yet. V Similar to Beye.

I keep saying this, Enrique is not being allowed to play the way he played at Villareal. he is an attacking full back that likes to make charging runs forward. When he is allowed to do this he seems a great LB, as demonstrated in yesterdays first half performance. However, JK clearly prefers the full backs to be more defensive minded and not make too many runs forward, which was reflected in Enriques’ average second half performance where he just kept looking for a long pass whenever he received the ball.

guthrie chases the ball down well and puts players under pressure but thats about all he does, we need better. Bartons ‘decent’ still need better than him like. need a left back because enriques pathetic. vidukas finished and even though ameobis had a small revival hes still crap, owen probably off and martins is inconsistent, add to this the fact that duff is nearly fit again then its not looking too good.
    thats the negative side
    the good side is…
    …oh well

at the minute guthrie and barton should be our CM partnership, but we really do need an AM, someone like riquelme type player to be playing alongside barton, we have absolutely no creativity in CM

Agree with Spyro…Enrique 1st half performed better than Beye even in terms of getting fowards and getting good passes in.

2nd half the whole team falls apart and he becomes wasteful again. I reckon hes a decent player…but this system of sitting back is disasterous to the type of player he is. Then we end up with the long balls.

Agree with every1 else we need to get some midfielders in. We’ve missed barton a lot…but Guthrie and Geremi in central mid yesterday worked VV Well. We gotta remember it only went wrong when guthrie got injured.

I think Geremi should have more chances in the middle he had a class 1st half yesterday. That 2nd goal was all him.

But get rid of Gonzalez…Butt is useless – just costs us free kicks and pens imo & get in a creative midfielder!!
We’ve all been asking for one for so long & we never got it. Get Benayoun in lol

because his tactics have once again cost us points.
yesterday was a replica of the west brom match, totally dominate the first half and go 2 goals up then a shocking change of tactics and a poor team talk nearly cost us points on that occasion but yesterday they cost us dearly, we cant beat the teams around us
    blackburn
    hull
    sunderland
    stoke
    man city
    spurs
    wigan

I blame Taylor not coloccini, we went 2 1/2 games without conceding then Taylor comes on and bang 2. Comment 8 is spot on. Coloccini cant concentrate on his own game when playing along side Taylor. When Bassong plays he is far more composed coz Bassong is a rock.

I blame the tactics aswell tho.

Also Bassong is alot faster than Taylor and I think this relaxes Coloccini a bit.

It was the midfield or lack of it that cost us the game tho.

So Jonny you seriously think that you are so smart that you can spot that a player who plays for Argentina is really crap. I am fairly confident that if someone had looked at all the (home?)work that you had produced over the past four months they would have found a couple of things that you could have done better. Collo is a class act and deserves our support not this bitch moan whine.

spyro – first and formost defenders need to defend and that is one thing enrique cant do. only the top teams like chelski with bosingwa can afford to have forward thinking wing backs. at the end of the day a tite defence who can defend and dont concead goals breeds confidence throught the whole team and your more attacking players (the other 4 midfielders and 2 strikers) can go freely and attack. A clean sheet is a point at the end of the day and if we can get the attacking players to create ( the confidence of a strong back 4 that dont concead) and nick a goal or tow that is 3 points.

The only thing Coloccini really needs to improve on is his positioning. In the Spanish league you can run out of position and not be punished. The EPL is much faster and you cannot get away with such things. However, this is his first seaosn and he will improve. You can see he is a class defender.

Yes you could say we drew with chelsea, beat villa etc

We also lost to fulham, drew with wigan, lost to tottenham, barely beat west brom..drew with stoke etc

The difference is that you cannot prove that the good results were down to Kinnear. In those games he made no key changes.

In the games we lost he did make key tactical changes & they ended up ruining the games for us.

Your position doesnt make very much sense.

But im not gonna pretend they’re angels, they’re part of all this.
