Butt and Guthrie Could Be Fit For Portsmouth

There was some good news today on the injury front as it looks like both Nicky Butt and Danny Guthrie could be fit for the game at Portsmouth next Saturday.

Danny Guthrie – good chance of being fit for Portsmouth

It turns out that Nicky Butt almost made the game against Stoke City on Saturday, but in the end, didn’t make it, and Danny picked up a very sore hip, in the first half.

Chris Hughton talked about the injuries today:

“Nicky Butt was touch and go for this game so we’re very hopeful that he will be fit for Portsmouth.“Danny Guthrie had a whack on his hip today which is a very sore area but we would be hopeful that, as the week progresses, he will be available for next week.”

That’s good news because without these two available in the middle of the park, it will be tough to get a result at Portsmouth, which we need to do, after the disappointment of a 4th successive draw on Saturday. Draws these days are almost relegation form, because it’s 2 points dropped at home.

In the 10 games Joe’s been in charge we have 6 draws, 2 wins and 2 defeats, so it could go either way if we could can turn draws into wins – or defeats.

In the 3 draws we’ve had at home under Joe, we could have won them all, conceding in the last 4 minutes of each of the games.   🙁

We need to get a win at Fratton Park, since it’s not since we beat Aston Villa 6 games ago that we’ve been able to capture all 3 points – which is not good.

Any fit player is good for us.

If Joe gets touchline ban is he allowed to communicate via radio link like fat sam used or is it nil contact?

the only postive thing we can take from the games is we havent been beaten, with a bit more luck and better subs we would of won a couple of those games, we will get it right and pull away starting with pompy the weekend

Last year the fixture was a hard earned point – but Pompey are not the force they were under Harry Redknap.

I hope to chill before the weekend but with the other matches around us next week we could find ourselves back in the bottom 3.

We say it week on week but 3 points is a must!

We need our first away win of the season some time. Might as well be this weekend.

Personally I will be more than happy with another nowts each draw. Pompey are still a much better side than Toon. On a positive note I recall Martin O’Neal getting tons of draws and finsishing 12th or so when he arrived. It takes time to build a side and a pattern of play. Not losing is a good place to start.

Toon Graeme : Fergie was banned for Saturdays game against S’land and he was on the blower to the dugout non stop…

Alledge it went something like this
“Have a f*****g word with their bench and get them to at least try and attack us…I am bored up here”….lol…

4-3-3 is calling again…Play Charles and Jonas narrow with Owen linking the midfield with attack….it worked a treat last season with Geremi and Barton. It will work even better with Charles and Jonas …Get Butt to sit then bring Barton in there when he is back up and running….

Anyone know what happened to Geremi?

Also I am optimistic about the Pompey game as they seem really bad defensively lately.

Hoping Guthrie and Butt are back against Pompey as we lack cover in central midfield although neither are what I call creative players…..

I’m confident we’ll get at least a point against Pompey; hopefully all three!!!

Geremi was absolutely F@cked when he came off; on account off the fact that he is at least 38 years old (whoever forged his passport is clearly good at what they do; he was at real madrid, boro, chelsea and now us; he is never the age he claims)! One decent pass for the second goal but it was shambolic from the min they came out after half time!

We were 2-0 up because guthrie was getting the pall down; passing it out wide and we causing them problems through jonas and beye on the right; charlie down the left! After half time we didnt get at there full backs once; we invited pressure because we hoofed it up to our two small strikers who couldnt win anything in the air against there centre halfs! We need to pass the f@cking ball….Thats how we got into a winning position!

I cant believe how bad we actually are right now! The vila game seems like a distant memory! I have never been so dissapointed leaving st. james! Stoke were shit…f@cking crap; yet they drew with us which teels me just how bad we are right now!

Beat pompey???? Dont make me laugh! I’m not going down there next sunday to put up with a performance like we got in that second half! F@ck that; i’m thoroughly pissed off…

I agree with Len’s assessment. We shoulda won against Stoke but didn’t, so how that makes Pompey away a ‘must win’ beats me. JFK doesn’t appear to understand the term anyway. One tactic that would help would be never to play Cacapa in a Toon shirt ever again.

completely agree sav…But to be fair the majority of people who come on here hvnt got a clue! We missed nicky butt massively on sat! there was no fight, no character, no passion, no pride, nothing…I’m debating whether to go back; i probably will against tottenham because i love the club; but seeing the players perform like that hurts me alot!

ur havin a laugh. Stop kiddin urself, Butt is just as slow as Geremi…atleast geremi can pick a pass out and doesnt give away endless freekicks/pens
