Joe Kinnear refused to allow two of his more experienced youngsters, Carroll (19) and Edgar (21), go out on loan, when the loan transfer deadline came and went last month.
Andrew Carroll – appeared just twice this season
Kinnear talked about some of his young guns today:
“There is a possibility that both Edgar and Carroll will be called upon at some stage.” “And it’s true I had clubs enquire about them going out on loan.“
“But, basically, I wasn’t in a position to do that.” “I explained to both of the lads that it would be a risk if we picked up any more injuries.”
“Obviously, both of them would dearly love to be playing, and they’re a bit frustrated, but they’re aware they’re needed on the bench, as they may be called upon.”
“At the moment, I’m not in a position to let anybody go.”
It seems that Norwich City were interested in taking both players, as Glenn Roeder is well aware of their capabilities, and Burnley were also keen on defender Edgar.
Carroll has made just two appearances for the first team this season, and David has made five appearances, but while they are on the bench a lot, they are not getting enough playing time.
But Kinnear has to sacrifice their development in case he gets even more injuries and needs to use the lads, but we can understand if they are frustrated at the situation.
Joe will need to decide this summer whether he wants to keep Edgar at the club, since David’s contract runs out.
Comments welcome.

Comment #8Love that video Beye !
Some of those saves from Given were outstanding.
And no matter what you think of them, Bellamy, Dyer, Jenas…even Robert…they gave us some great times. Bobby put together a really great squad for us.
I wish he was younger so he could still be here helping ! Even Ameobi looked good lol
Hopefully some of his work has rubbed off on Shearer from their time together and we have even more of the great times to come !!!!
Tell you what, we get Shearer in our strikers will improve thats for sure. Talk about the best coach possible…still young and fit…able to show them what to do easy.

Your comments are really the most stoopid 1 liners on any blog I have ever been on.
Get rid of carroll he is an idiot not really bothered about Edgar either to be honest they will never make the grade like most of our youngsters.

Comment #13It’s almost time for transfers and I notice the nufc spin machine is starting to work in overdrive heading upto january…like making any bollocks into a story to distract us from the facts
1 Relegation
2 Paper Thin Squad
3 Manager that is dubious
4 Another sluggish window
5 A team that is on its arse.
6 Lots of our players leaving in January inc Owen
7 We are tactically poor
8 No confidence
9 Cant hold a lead
10 Nobody rich wants us.
Happy days…I hate toon spin..like when Keegan was in charge last window the spin was just so funny.

Comment #14JUST SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR IF WE DO GET THIS £12M TO SPEND
out – carroll £1m, edgar £1m, smith £2-3m leaving us with approx £15-6m
in – skjelbred £4m, baines/warnock £3m, kightly £4m, elano on loan or £5m, appiah free/song on loan
to me we’d be far stronger if we managed to pull off some deals like this!!

Comment #16This was mentioned by quite a few fans in the summer.
It was stated back in the summer months that if Ashley did not spend on 1st team players and squad players then the youth reserves could not be loaned out and their talent could be wasted.
Surprise, surprise look what happened.
Its not rocket science. We have always had a splash of top, top quality players at Newcastle, but never had a squad with depth.
The word form within Newcastle is we are trying to bring in 2 or 3. Well thats great for a start, but lets be honest we could do with another half a dozen and thats with NO ONE GOING!

Comment #17I know it is well depressing Beye just want to be honest I am right behind the team but I think it is going to be a worrying season…I just question the teams fight and how much they want to battle to survive..I want to see the team show that they care, step upto the plate and battle and win games.

Comment #27No, but you don’t need to go to youth games to make a judgement. Have you no common sense? There are several ways to get indications of a players quality. Managers quotes, highlights, statistics, word of mouth… Dont try and be witty little boy.

Comment #29spyro- you said you had just looked at the team which looked strong. maybe you should have said you have heard from other sources that it is good. You cant form opinions of a team by having never seen them play. So it seems to me you have no common sense. You are worse than tom youtube toon.

Comment #30newcastle won 2-1 against kids from the 2nd(?) division. A team who cant afford to buy youngsters from other teams and rely on kids local to the area.
Kazenga scored a great goal for newcastle. I didnt see the game but according to spyro i can comment on things like that as i have read a report of the game.

Comment #31Watchin Chelsea shows you the difference.
2-1 up and its attack attack attack.
If thats us we’d have thrown on a defender or two & started gettin men behind the ball…playing long balls up to our shortest players..and just holding on for dear life.

Comment #33Of course the list i mentioned can help you form an opinion of a player and yes you can comment on a goal scored based on a report…normally because the report will include a descriptive breakdown of how the goals are scored, idiot. You only continue to highlight your own stupidity and loneliness with your obvious, shallow and desperate calls for attention. Boring at home is it? What a shame, as this will be my last response to you for the night 😉

Comment #34We should sell Edgar in Jan. He’ll never be good enough and will likely be released in the Summer. We may as well get a few hundred thousand pounds for him. Send Carroll out on loan though. Even if Owen leaves, we will still have Martins, Viduka, Ameobi, Xisco and Smith, though I personally think that both Smith and Xisco should be sold if we can replace them.
I’d thought about Javier Saviola. Even though Van Nistelrooy is injured, Raul and Higuain are still ahead of him and Real are signing Huntelaar in Jan, so he’ll be 4th choice, 5th when Van Nistelrooy is fit…

Ill tell you the biggest difference i see in that video to now.
The smiles on their faces.
Some of those players over the years have LOVED playing for us…such class times…some brilliantly exciting moments…
The lads at the moment dont look happy. Been a long time since i saw anyone reel away with a smile the size of Alberts in that vid, or milners V Man U, Shearer etc. They had real passion for Newcastle.
We need to get that back.

Comment #39I get so annoyed when people fear 4 d fact dat owen is going.without good midfielders owen is shite.i dont classify him as a typical Newcastle striker cos hes got no pace unaggressive, low workrate.the only good ting is dat he finds the ball in the net when chanced.i beg you all to stop depending on him.we would do beta with or without owen

Comment #40Consistent goalscorers often scores at the right place at the right time. I call them natural goalscorers(e.g. van Nistelrooy, Alan Shearer, Robert Pires). They know how to position themselves. It’s like basketball players that are good on the rebounds, often needing that bit of intuition.
Owen often makes dangerous runs with purpose and gets into dangerous areas. He is not as “shytty” as you made out to be. Just because you don’t see him off the ball doesn’t make him a “shyt”.
If he makes 100,000 pounds a week being shyt, what are you then with your earnings?
However, I do agree that the club has to sell him in January if it is confirmed that he has no wish to extend his contract. I’ll probably start calling him shyt once he signs for spurs.
Side-tracking, it was reported that Dennis Wise was watching the FA youth cup tie. Good to know that he is doing his job. The easy bit.
