Joe Kinnear Looking Forward To FA Cup Run

There’s no doubt that Joe Kinnear is looking forward to taking Newcastle United as far as he can this season in the one competition we still have any chance of winning – the FA Cup.

The famous English FA Cup

It’s 53 years since we last won the FA Cup when we took apart a Don Revie led Manchester City side 3-1 at Wembley, to get our 3rd win in a short 5 years.

And it was a certain Jackie Milburn who put the lads ahead with a header from a corner in the very first minute of that game – oh the memories.

But Joe is right when he says, with a full squad, Newcastle can be a match for any team, as we showed with our performances against Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Joe talked about a fit side and the upcoming FA Cup competition:

“If we have everyone fit, our first choice XI would finish in the top half of the table, no problem. On our day, if we have our full team out on the pitch, we are a match for anyone in this league which is why I’m looking forward to the FA Cup.”

“We’ve got a tough draw away at Hull, but it’s also a game we will believe we can win,” “The FA Cup is a magnificent competition, I know all about Newcastle United’s history in it and how much it means to the supporters.”

“The league will be our first priority because of the position we are in, but the cup can have a positive impact.”

Joe’s right to make the league our number one priority, but if we can get past Hull City in early January, and we can strengthen the side before the end of next month, anything is possible.

We better leave it at that, before we are once again accused of being wildly optimistic.   😀

Oh well, we can always dream.

Comments very welcome.

Diop, Utaka, Diarra & Kaboul are all ruled out for our game on Sunday. traore and Hughes are rated at 50/50. Good news

Not convinced hull will beat us. It depends who we have in midfield and how Joe lines the team up.

Hull should be running out of steam by the time that game comes around. Anyway, even if they aren’t if we play well we should beat them.

Off topic, if we are after this Vargas on loan, he looks a perfect signing off spec for our needs. Can play LB, CM and LM, free kick specialist and belts them in from all angles around the box. Whether he can adapt is another matter, could be our left sided Solano if he could, come on Nobby, out a word in with your fellow Peruvian!

I know it’s you tube and all players can look good, but check out the quality of his left foot, scores about 5-10 goals most pros could only dream of scoring.

I would like to see us sign Ibisevic as Owens’ replacement. Class player, who scores and creat. I have seen him play for Hoffenheim a couple of times this season and sometimes i can’t tell whether he is a natural striker or midfielder. this guy can dribble well for such a prolific scorer.

I am a bit sceptical about that story Elliott, it seemed to pop up straight after the Fiorientina game last night. I think it is bull**** to be honest. Don’t get your hopes up mate, it is The Sun after all.

Spyro….About the coment on Ibisevic on the previous thread.
I’ve been mentioning him along with Salihovic for almost 2 months.
If we get him somehow, not only we’ll replace Owen,we’ll also reincarnate Shearer.
    Ibisevic all the way brother.

spyro- comment 7. You mean you read a report on the player and from that you have formed an opinion. Is it true you have a fulham season ticket?

Would be nice to have an exciting Cm though, and a free kick specialist is something we’ve missed for years. Grown numb from watching Geremi, Milner and Zogs hit the wall, first man with every direct FK or corner. Fingers crossed.

Ibisevic looks very very sharp but I can’t see him swapping a title push for a relegation battle and why would hoffenheim sell, they don’t exactly need the money, it would only happen in the summer.

    Elliot….You can’t get a better free kick specialist than Salihovic…the guy’s simply a sniper.

He can shoot right in the top corner and hit the spider in his b-lls 🙂

The FA cup is all we have and we CAN win it!

Yes i said we can, look at Pompey last year.

Man U want the champions league
Chelsea wnat the league back or Europe
    Liverpool the league
Arsenal and Villa will fight it out for 4th place!

Hopefully we can sneak it when the bigger teams are concentrating on other things.

Problem is there 2nd teams could give us a decent game!

    The season starts here!
(Right i’m completely out of opitmisim now, over to you NUFC)

The only reason i noticed him initially is because i remember you and some others mentioning him. I initially started watching Bundesliga this season to watch Wolfsburg as everyone is raving on about them. However, i have seen Hoffenheim a couple of times and they are a really good side imo. In their team i also like Ogbuke Obasi…as i have said probably 100 times 😀 , and also Wellington. I might start watching the German league more regularly now as it is quite similar to the prem. I find the Italian and Spanish league to slow to follow properly. Any recommendations on teams i should watch in the Bundesliga.

    AO sad man.

Don’t think a cup run is a good idea…JK should focus on prem survival and field a team of kids at Hull.

If I had to chose between winning the FA Cup or being safe in the EPL. I would without any doubt chose for the EPL.

Kinnear should be focussing on getting us into the safe zone ASAP instead of hammering about the FA Cup.

    Spyro….Sorry for the late reply.

Mate…honestly Bundes league is becoming very interesting to watch lately.
The team i like in Germany is Dortmund, they play in front of amazing crowd and amazing stadium.
Pay atention to Edin Dzeko from Wolfsburg
    Renato Augusto from Leverkuzen
    Helmes from Leverkuzen
There’s so many names right now it will take forever to write them down.

Watch Hamburg Spuro, they’re so good to watch especially with their Croatian duo Olic&Petric…..Omg….that Petric is having a season of a lifetime.
I was so pissed off when Dortmund traded him for that stupid Mohamed Zidan.

My top 10 available players would be

    1-Vedad Ibisevic
    2-Sejad Salihovic
    3-Mladen Petric
4-Mark Van Bomel (free agent in the summer)
    5-Kuba (Dortmund)
    6-Patrick Helmes
    7-Edin Dzeko
    8-Carlos Grossmuller
    9-Jose Ernesto Sosa
    10-Antonio Rukavina

So – just the two posts on topic, then? Come on, lads – you just knacker the point of this site.

Two losses in 10 games is exactly the kind of stat you need to support a cup run, and JFK is right to talk up our chances.

As for losing to Hull – what are you on?? Yep, they’re doing great and bless ’em for it, but of course we can win that one. We’re playing the champions in 2 days, and does anyone not believe we can beat them?

Some may find it blind optimism, but I’ll take that over blind pessimism any day.
