Newcastle After Juanito? – Probably Not

There are reports today that 32 year-old Real Betis defender Juanito is seeking the contract of his life away from the Primera Divison club.

Junaito – 5’11” central defender from Real Betis

Juanito’s current contract expires in the summer, and this has sparked rumours of interest in him, and yes, of course, one of the clubs mentioned is Newcastle United.

But Juanito is 32 years old, so he is hardly one for the future, and while he is keen to stay at Betis, he will also look elsewhere if he cannot get the contract hge is seeking from his current club.

Juanito said in the Daily Star today:

“It has to be the contract of my life because I’m in great form. I want to be paid what I deserve.”

“My first option will always be Betis. I want to retire here after the three or four years I have left in football.”

“If it doesn’t happen I will find another place.”

Juanito is a central defender has been at Real Betis since 2001, and has played 224 times for the club and scored 18 goals. He has also represented Spain 25 times since 2002 and scored 3 goals.

Juanito represented Spain at Euro 2004 and 2008, playing in the 2-1 win over Greece, and in addition played in the 2006 World Cup.

But Joe Kinnear has already said he will not reinforce the central part of the defense at Newcastle, since he is happy to have Coloccini, Bassong and Steven Taylor fighting it out for the two central defensive positions.

We’d be surprised if there’s much truth in this report, and think we can do better, and bring in some younger players, and full backs have to be the defensive priority.

We’ve got enough young centre backs as it is, the chance to bring in an experienced player for the younger lads to learn off shouldn’t be looked down on.

It’s not what we need in January but with Cacapa and Edgar out of contract in the Summer then it would be a good, forward thinking move.

“It has to be the contract of my life because I’m in great form. I want to be paid what I deserve.”

-he’s looking for the big pay day, the above statement says all we need to know about him.

“if they dont pay me enough i’ll just keep going until i find a club who will, regardless of who it is”, is what that says to me.
Newcastle have fallen victim to this far too many times, and i seriously doubt it will happen again. Ashley may have ran the club terribly but as we all know he’s not the type of fella who’ll throw his cash about and overpay. especially not when he’s “trying to sell” us.

Beye said similar when he left Marseille, most players come to the Premiership for the money on offer but who cares as long as they perform?

When is Kadar gonna get a spot on the bench?

No need for another CB, put Kadar there, for back-up for both CB and LB.

Alex would be good to have but he wants first team football and would you put him in for Collo or Bass. I want both of them to get better and keep developing so would not be keen to see either on the bench too much.

Get Betis on the Dog & Bone and tell ’em we’ve this youngster called Cacapa who’ll do a job for them if Juanito goes….only 3 million and a set of jerseys.
