There are reports today that both Fulham and Newcastle United are among clubs interested in Heart of Midlothian captain Christophe Berra.
Christophe Berra – Hearts captain and center-back
The Hearts boss Csaba Lazslo, has already said that Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in the Scotland defender, although a move to either of those clubs next month appears unlikely, at best.
Coach Steven Frail said:
“It’s no surprise to me that a club like Hearts may have to sell players to balance the books in January. In the current financial climate, all clubs have to look at it.”
“But, if at all possible, the one player I think they should try to hang on to is Christophe. If I was still working at Hearts, he would be the player I’d try to sell last.”
“If they lose Bruno Aguiar, they will lose an inventive midfielder, but there are others waiting in the wings to slot in. The same goes for Kingston, but Berra’s situation is different.”
“There isn’t the same replacement for Christophe, so selling him could be a bigger loss than Craig Gordon was.”
Christophe Diddier Berra was born 31st January 1985 and is of French descent. He is center-back and captain of Heart of Midlothian, and Christophe is noted for his physical presence and aerial ability, and if Newcastle were interested in a center-back then it makes sense that Berra would be a potential target.
He’s played 108 times for Hearts, stands 6’1″ tall, and has represented Scotland 3 times so far.
But Joe Kinnear has said he isn’t interested in a center-back, at least in January, so we’d be surprised if this report has any truth to it.
However, come the summer, don’t be surprised if some of these names crop up as potential targets, depending on how well we fare through the end of the season, and who is the owner of the club in July., and even which division we are in. 🙁
