Five Players Undergoing Fitness Tests Today

Surprising news this morning from Newcastle United in that five players will face fitness tests for tomorrow’s game at Portsmouth.

Seba Bassong – undergoing fitness test today

Presumably those who do not pass their fitness tests will be left on Tyneside to receive additional treatment.

The five players who will face fitness tests today are midfield trio Nicky Butt, Danny Guthrie and Damien Duff, and Shola Ameobi and Sebastien Bassong are also struggling with injuries.

The surprise there is Sebastien Bassong, as we didn’t even realize he was injured, but of course Steven Taylor could come in for Seba, so that’s not too big a problem.

The  two we need to see fit are Butt and Guthrie so they can line up in central midfield, and if either one of them doesn’t make it Joe Kinnear could plump for 18 year-old Kazenga LuaLua in the middle of the park.

That’s asking a lot of the youngster, but when he’s played for the first team before, he has looked confident and not in the least bit over-awed by the situation.

If he does make the starting line-up tomorrow, how he plays will have a huge influence on the result of the game on the south coast.

But it will also be a huge opportunity for the youngster to show what he’s made of, and we think the youngster is definitely one for the future at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

I for one would loveto see Lua Lua gat a shot in midfield. What have we got to lose?? Another draw is not good enough… we need a win and we need someone to create something in midfield.. give him a shot.. I think its worth a try..

    I hope Duff isn’t fit:

    1. He is useless.
    2. I want to see Lualua.

I doubt Bassong is injured, wouldn’t surprise me if JK just wanted to bring Taylor back in.

it does not matter who is fit or not, jk has no idea how to set his stall out to win a game of football, regardless of resources available to him. i predict a 2-1 loss alas. it does not help the jk is doing his most to draw loads of pressure and unwanted attention going on about owen leaving etc. we all know he is going, owen knows he is going, newcastle will make no ‘real’ effort to keep him either. i just hope he stays til the summer to try to help save us from relegation, we need him, no-one else scores the way he does. oba is not in the same league yet and may never be with us as i think he will up his sticks and leave for a proffesionally run club in the summer that are not perential relegation fodder every season as we seem to be these days. i see no hope for us this season to be honest, we have had all the easier home games and fcuked them all up and chucked away points. if you look at whos coming in the second half of the season its frightening. ALL the top teams are still to come to ours. seriously, what chance do we have??

Hoping Guthrie, Butt and Bassong all pass the fitness test; not too concerned about Ameobi or Duff as we have adequate cover.

if 1 of them make it (Butt or Guthrie) i would do this.

if none make it(Butt or Guthrie) we should do this

if both make it(you know who i mean) play this

Bass,Ameobi and Duff are not mentioned because

Bassong- Not worth risking with a 100% fit Taylor

    Duff- Nzogbia is better anyway

Ameobi- i think he’s good but look at all our fit strikers.

    Bring on “pompey”

Instead of playing LuaLua through the middle, why not put N’Zogbia through the middle with Geremi or Butt or Guthrie, Jonas on his (preferred) left wing and LuaLua on the right?

I really hope that Bassong is fit, I really do not want Taylor back in the middle again.

turkish mag- that second line up with 4-3-3 with no butt or guthrie is suicidal , the only reason 4-3-3 worked last time is that in butt , barton nd geremi in cm we had players who could defend, zog, guitterez and lua lua would get torn apart

Expect all 5 to be unavailable:-

    Beye, Coloccini, Taylor, Jose Enrique
    K. LuaLua, Geremi, N’Zogbia, Jonas
    Owen, Martins

We’ll get beat anyway, but that team will be hammered!

    3 or 4-0 me-thinks…
