Kinnear Makes Bid For Left Back In England

Joe Kinnear is absolutely determined to improve the Newcastle squad in January, and quite honestly we cannot wait to see who Joe brings in – quality we hope.

Joe Kinnear – has already bid for left back in England

Joe said today:

“Mike Ashley will be looking to get his money back when he sells, that is about £240million,” “But if Newcastle end up relegated the club would only be worth £100million.”

“It wouldn’t make sense to sell any of out best players in January.” “I suppose people are waiting to grab him (Owen), so maybe we will lose him, but we can only lose him in the summer.”

“It wouldn’t make sense to let him go next month. If we got players to strengthen the side why weaken the striking department?”

“If Mark Viduka got his old injury, we’d be back down to two strikers. No-one is going, that would weaken the squad. No chance.

“If we could get like for like, lose somebody but get a better one in, I don’t mind doing that.” “I am looking to buy two players and maybe get two or three players on loan. That will happen 190 per cent.”

“I’ve already made one offer for a left-back and this is in England.”

So we wonder who that left back is?

Our guess would be Leighton Baines of Everton, because we could probably get him for a cut price £3M.

Everton paid £5M for him in the summer of 2007, from Wigan Athletic,  but Baines is finding it difficult, for whatever reason,  to get his game on Merseyside. He certainly had a great game against us in our 2-2 at Everton, that’s for sure.

But he would be a good acquisition for Newcastle, and certainly better than we have at the moment.

Other left backs who Joe may have bid for include Stephen Warnock of Blackburn, but we cannot see Blackburn selling, and also Wayne Bridge, of Chelsea, who deserves to be at a club where he will play regularly ever week.

There’s also 20 year-old Kyle Naughton of Sheffield United, who seems a fantastic young player, although some big clubs, like Manchester United are also interested in him.

And we were also interested during the summer in 19 year-old Liverpool youngster Emiliano Insua, who is Argentinian, and another great up and coming talent, who would settle well on Tyneside, with Coloccini and Gutierrez already here.

Who do you think the player could be?

Id rather play Bassong left back than have Warnock! Baines and Bridge ( No chance of signing ) then yes!

Ed – You articl is very misleading and unaccurate!

He said a left-back playing in England, not an English one.

Cheers, I might seem nit picking but if it stayed the same people would be having a massive conversation about 3 LBs, maybe 4 including Mattock.

Would love Bridge or Warnock, cant see niether coming unfortunately.

Baines is one of those players where he can look really good or very poor. But at least he would get games at SJP.

I see the Sunday Sun is linking us with both Baines and Upson, today.

He would except Baines, but dont think we need another injury prone CB. Particularly when we have 2 very good up and coming CB in Taylor and Bassong. I would like extra cover, but Cacapa is doing that at the moment.

CB would not be a priority for myself, but then it will be JFK choice.

    Would love to see a:
    LB
    CM
    AM
    RW (Back up to Jonas)
ST (Xsico out on loan back in Spain)

And..er ……the term “quality” is over and misused by so-called self appointed football pundits. The club has bought plenty of quality hitherto. Average and poor quality

Kadar is extra cover for CB IMO and if we buy Mehmet Topal as a DM, he can play CB too 🙂

Leighton Baines would be a good buy. Ryan Taylor is also out of contract soon. We should try and sign him too!!!

xiscore – yes John Joe O’Toole, a tall central midfielder – he would be good buy for the future – looks like a very good player in the making and we need more central midfielders now – and for the future.

Kinnear is old school and clueless.
    8M for Upson !!!!!
What is so wrong playing some of our youngsters.
Kadar, Tozer or even Edgar could back up.

Kinnear is very poor tactically, won’t play the youngsters and is now being associated with some very dodgy buys in January.

O’Shea, Song, Onouha – Not LBs

Ekotto, Ball, Gilberto – Absolutely rubbish

    Insua – Too small

    Bale, Shorey – Shocking defensively

Baines, Bridge, Warnock – All possibilities.

We could be looking in the championship though.

Other that spring to mind are Hreiddarson, Traore (Djimi and Armand), Garrido, Gardner – However, these arent good enough at LB.

nufc apart there is not many players that would come to us to be back up really is there? Unless Harper fancies being back up to Beye! Then we could promote Krul to back up to Given. Saying that Harper looked more of a CM in the game versus Celtic pre season!

Spy……I went on that IMS site for the first time today and it showed me some videos about Bastos………..Quite impressed with him i must say,no wonder you were mentioning him a lot lately.

Last time i saw him was in 2006 when Lille played Rabotnicki Kometal in Skopje.
At that time he was a bench player, cos Lille at that time was very strong i think, and also because Claude Puel was playing him mainly as a CM……so he was basically Mathieu Bodmer’s substitution.

But now……that’s a different story. He’ll end up in some top club Spyro,i really don’t think we even stand chance of signing him now. :-S

i would love to see wayne bridge come to newcastle, he deserves to be playing week in, week out, i also fancy gareth bale for his attacking ability, but can be found wanting defensively.

i think if we got a L.B. that was a good set piece taker, that would be a big bonus!! at the moment we have no real set piece taker’s…..i cant remember the last time we scored from a free kick!!
