Viduka Welcomes Competition For Places at Newcastle

With Oba Martins out for the Christmas fixtures, because of the groin injury he picked up while scoring Newcastle’s second goal on Sunday (it was worth it Oba!), that should give Australian striker Mark Viduka a good chance of getting into the starting eleven, and start scoring goals again for the Magpies.

Mark Viduka – Martins injury will give him playing time over holidays

Mark talked to Setanta Sports today, and the striker said he was happy to see competition for all places in the Newcastle United team, including with the forwards.

Mark said this morning:

“We want the best players in every position, including forward, becaue that’s what makes it a good team, we want quality players in every position.”

It gives you more fight to get into the team as well.”

“Spurs have been playing a lot better lately and I still think at home that St. James’ Park is our fortress and we should start getting the 3 points.”

Newcastle fans are on a high this week, with the excellent display and result the lads got down at Portsmouth on Sunday, and it was our biggest win of the season, and the first in 6 games, although we had only lost one of those game – at Fulham.

But as we all know, Newcastle are not a consistent team, to say the least, but if Joe can get them to concentrate fully on Sunday afternoon against Spurs, who redknapp has made a hard side to beat, it would be fabulous if the lads could get a second win on the trot.

That will give Newcastle United fans what they most certainly deserve this year – a very Merry Christmas – and so say all of us.

Howay The Lads!!

Is Martins definitely out for a few games? We will miss his pace and runs. Owen and Viduka are pretty static. But hopefully Viduka can get amongst the goals, but Oba will be a big miss!

I think we will go with Owen & Ameobi up front and then use the Dukes as a sub.

Im sure Joe will have studied the spuds form as come up with the tactics we need.

SPuds without King and Woodgate i think so martins would have run them ragged. I think hes scored in every (at least most of them) Prem league game he played vs spurs.

I think it will be Shola and Owen up front. Ameobi will cause Dawson all kinds of problems as Dawson tries to win every single long ball ahead of the attacker and Shola has the physical ability to simply turn him as many people do.

Theres no doubt that Mark is a top quality player tho and is a great asset to have on the bench.

    Shola to start for me….

The midfield need to support the attack as much as possible just like on Sunday…..

No Woodgate is a blow for Spurs

Has Viduka been offered a new contract? Surely he needs to start playing and scoring. He is playing for his future now, either with Newcastle or to put himself in the shop window! But I would start with Ameobi on Sunday he deserves it, he was playing well with Martins, but Owen isn’t going to be getting through the work load like Oba did!

I predict 2-0 toon win, with or without Oba. This is the team i think Joe will field –

    beye-collo-bassong-the bull
    ——————————–
    jonas-guthrie-butt-n’zog
    ——————————–
    —–shola–Owen—-

And i must agree with this selection, form over reputation. although the duke is a weapon, shola deserves his place after recent displays. the rest of teh team picks itself really after the pompy game. theres not been any clarification of the oba injury so fingers crossed he’s good to go on sunday. if he does does play, 3-0. if not, 2-0. owen one, and maybe shola or oba another, depending who plays 🙂 c’mon the toon

neeraj- i am surprised you think newcastle are playing better football. I suppose its that one win, and now we will win the league syndrome. I thought newcastle have been pretty poor when i have seen them, thoughts backed up by posters on here.

toonlad- you sound like a lovely lad and i am enjoying reading your thoughtful posts but you do come across as a bit of a mentalist.

just looking at tdt’s team there it looks as though it will be in midfield where you lose the game. That is a very poor midfield by premiership standards. I will be very dissapointed if we dont come away with the 3 points even though you have done well against us over the past 3 seasons.

AO….we have beat you 5 league games in a row, scoring no less than 3 goals in each game and we have beat you home and away for the past 2 seasons. you beat us in the cup when we had no manager and a depleted team.
And no i dont think we are doing better than spurs based on that one game against Pompey. I actually think we are doing better because we are above you in the league.

Ao. did you know that we have scored more goals against spurs than any other team in the league.
in our time in the league we have gained more points, scored more goals. conceeded less goals, won more games and lost less games than spurs.

superior in every catergory. To make this even more of a staggering achievement we have had one season less than spurs in the premier league and still out scored you and achived more points.. Amazing!

5 league games in a row Bud.

Face it. we are your bogie team!

broonale- you can always look at it another way . in the 2 clubs entire histories we have beaten you more times than you have beaten us. we have scored more goals and conceded less. We have also won more trophies.
Yes my friend, we are far superior in every way.

And we have already beaten you once already but we will just gloss over that fact as it was the mickey mouse cup(even though it was your only chance of silverware and qualifying for europe).

i have to admit your midfield is a lot better than ours the only player i would rather have in our midfield is gutierrez

lennon-he is a quality player but i would rather have gurierrez

modric-would easily get in our midfield

jenas-i always thought he was overrated

huddlestone-dont realy know i havents seen alot of him(though heard good things)

    bentley-quality player-rather have spiderman

o’hara-from what i have seen which is admittadley not much i thought he was underrated

    zakora-hes alright

dossantos-quality player where did he go
