Oba Martins hurt his groin as he stabbed the ball past David James, with his right foot last Sunday for Newcastle’s vital second goal.
Oba Martins – next few games will be wins hopefully
And it looks like Oba will miss out over the festive period as he tries to recover and get back to full fitness.
But whether he can participate in those games or not, Oba still thinks they will be important games for the side, and Oba would like tos ee more wins for the team.
He said today:
“Sunday was a very good result and I hope we can continue on a winning run now,” “It did not surprise that we won because I know we have lots of quality players in our team. Now we need to win more games and keep climbing up the table.”
“I was really happy with the win at Portsmouth because of how we played as a team. We played really well and everyone helped each other out across the pitch which is important.”
“The defense played very well again and if they can keep clean sheets then it is down to the strikers to take their chances and win games,”
“Michael and me and the rest of the strikers go into every game looking to score. When you are a striker and you do your job and help the team win you are happy.”
What we need is a winning streak that will take us up that league table very quickly. The fact that Oba is injured will give chances to Viduka and Ameobi, and even Andy Carroll, who scored a hat trick last night in the Reserves 6-1 rout of Carlisle United.
Mark Viduka will be favorite perhaps to replace Oba, and the rest of the season will be important for the Australian, as he tries to win an extension on his huge contract he is on at the Tyneside club.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Newcastle elect now to renew his contract, as we have many good youngsters coming through, and Mark on around £65K/week at the club, one of the highest earners at St. James’ Park.
We still have a poll going as to whather Newcastle should extend Mark’s contract, if you haven’t yet voted.
