Oba Wants More Wins For Newcastle

Oba Martins hurt his groin as he stabbed the ball past David James, with his right foot last Sunday for Newcastle’s vital second goal.

Oba Martins – next few games will be wins hopefully

And it looks like Oba will miss out over the festive period as he tries to recover and get back to full fitness.

But whether he can participate in those games or not, Oba still thinks they will be important games for the side, and Oba would like tos ee more wins for the team.

He said today:

“Sunday was a very good result and I hope we can continue on a winning run now,” “It did not surprise that we won because I know we have lots of quality players in our team. Now we need to win more games and keep climbing up the table.”

“I was really happy with the win at Portsmouth because of how we played as a team. We played really well and everyone helped each other out across the pitch which is important.”

“The defense played very well again and if they can keep clean sheets then it is down to the strikers to take their chances and win games,”

“Michael and me and the rest of the strikers go into every game looking to score. When you are a striker and you do your job and help the team win you are happy.”

What we need is a winning streak that will take us up that league table very quickly. The fact that Oba is injured will give chances to Viduka and Ameobi, and even Andy Carroll, who scored a hat trick last night in the Reserves 6-1 rout of Carlisle United.

Mark Viduka will be favorite perhaps to replace Oba, and the rest of the season will be important for the Australian, as he tries to win an extension on his huge contract he is on at the Tyneside club.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Newcastle elect now to renew his contract, as we have many good youngsters coming through, and Mark on around £65K/week at the club, one of the highest earners at St. James’ Park.

We still have a poll going as to whather Newcastle should extend Mark’s contract, if you haven’t yet voted.

As crazy as it would have sounded 3 months ago I’d START with Ameobi, but Viduka should definitely feature.

Tom_Toon – I can see your logic mate, but for me it would be Viduka all the way. The guy may be slow, but he’s got so much obvious quality. Let Owen do the running!

I know, Viduka is my favourite player a the club as our most techincally gifted player at the club but I dont think he’ll last even 60mins at the mo.

Hell, against weaker sides it might even be time to give Xisco a fair crack at the whip

I have no doubt that the Dukes will make an appearence.

The wing boys and defence will have to keep an eye on Bentley (thank god he shaved that stupid goatee) and Lennon who can go end to end at some speed.

We are a different team from when we last played the spuds and think it will be end to end like Sunday past.

I say 2-1 to our boys and predict that Super Shay will have another great game. Lets hope that Gomez does a Robinson!

    Keep an eye on Bentley?

He has been so bad for Spurs it s unbelievable.

Our defence dont even need to worry about him, he can be dealt with sub-consciously.

No but Dawson is cacking himself.

And dont say Dawson is good because of 1 good game (your last game) in 2 seasons.

He is crap, even worse than Taylor.

tomturantoon- dawson is no world beater i will admit but when you lot were linked with him in the summer a lot of your fans thought he would be a good replacement for taylor. he wont play anyway as woodgate and king should both be fit.

We have to just sit back and see if the fat man has learnt anything about running a football club! Well him and Derrick Lambiarse.

Derrick Derrick who the F*** is Derrick – exactly.

Ed – all very interesting, but haven’t you kinda missed the big story today??

Ashley’s finally given an interview and gone some way to promising (reliably or otherwise) to do what we’ve all been clamouring for over the past several months.

Where’s the story on that? Surely it’s more important than which striker we play next??

(It’s also likely to lead to the best forum scrap…)

Ok, back on thread: I’d start Viduka and Owen, and once we’ve got it safe, try Ameobi and perhaps one of the younguns. We need reliability and a safe 3 points before we take any punts on the unproven ones, no matter how good they were yesterday.

Oh, and AO – will you have the guts to come on here on Monday morning after your sixth drubbing by the Toon in as many meetings?

    Doubt it.

Oh, and even if we did start with Ameobi and Duke, we’d still beat you. That’s the depressing thought you should be trying to come to terms with 🙂

ashley is off his rocker, he is already gonig on about us being in europe this season, jesus, we just one off relegation, its a bold statement. lets see if he lets his money do the talking instead of his lying mouth. firstly, i want to see if he truly wants to keep owen. that statement was nothing more than an invite to man city to bid for owen. if he thinks we ahve forgotten about all his other broken lies he must be daft. bring on jan and lets see your true black and white colours mike??

your defense would be vulnerable with guti and zog

i really hope martins is fit that would be a killer blow to spurs

For me Viduka should start, as Shola coming on later in the game will add energy, you’ll not exactly get that with the Duke!

    My team would be:

    Given
Beye – Colo – Bassong – Enrique (who is improving)
    Guti – Guthrie – Butt – Zogs
    Owen – Viduka

See how long Vid holds it out and then replace him with Shola.

Ameobi to start for me – he wont be 100% match fit but he is ahead of Viduka, as and when Shola fades bring the big man on

Totally totally totally agree, mate! Start the Duke, hope he gets a goal or at least a nice assist, and then bring Shola on to add that extra energy when Spuds’ defense is knackered. I’m still betting on Owen hitting his first hat trick of the year!

it is sad to lose Oba at this stage but i hope he wont be out too long. Viduka? at 65k/week he is definitely earning some easy money. He should be shipped out in january, Carrol is looking good.
