Viduka, Cacapa and Edgar Likely To Leave Newcastle

Joe Kinnear has said today that Mark Viduka is yet to be offered a new contract at Newcastle United, and we don’t think he will be offered one.

Mark Viduka – out of contract in June

Mark Viduka signed from Middlesbrough as a free agent for two years, in the summer of 2007, with the option for a third season, but we don’t expect Newcastle to pick up that option.

Joe Kinnear will now likely see how Mark does through the end of the season, before recommending whether Newcastle should take up the 3rd year option on Mark’s contract.

Joe told the Shields Gazette today:

“I’ve been going slowly, slowly with Mark to be honest.”

“Looking at him when I first came in, the word round the club was that he would retire at the end of the season and go back to Australia.”

“He’s getting fitter and fitter, but I have to say that one is in the balance.”

We feel sure that Mark will find it hard to get a contract extension at Newcastle and of the seven players whose contracts run out in the summer, David Edgar, Claudio Capapa and Viduka will in all likelihood be allowed to move on. The other four – Owen, Butt, Ameopbi and Harper have all been offered new contracts.

The loss of the 3 players will enable Joe to bring in some additional new players in the summer, and one will almost definitely be another center back – maybe even Matthew Upson.

Viduka is on huge wages at the club and with his terrible injury record, his wages have hardly been a good deal for the club.

What do you think?

1.Cacapa has had 2difficult seasons and never reached his level he had when he was in France.

    2. Edgar played a few descent games, but for some reason IMO he was never given a fair opportunity. For me he defo is not less than Taylor.

    3. Viduka well Ed you summed it up quite completely; too many injuries to have a huge impact at the club. Combining with the high wages I don’t think it is too bad to let him leave.

All by all I can follow the thinking of letting those 3 go, cause it would not have such an impact on the team.

Bit disappointed about Viduka, possibly leaving.

No need for a new CB, time for Kadar to be 4th choice.

I feel the same about the Dukes. His ball control from first touch is an asset but apart from that we aint hardly seen him in action through injury.

    Up steps Xisco…

Agree with Graeme..give the younger players a chance especially Lua Lua..Kazenga has so much potential and deserves a crack now so does Ranger.

I disagree with u about Kadar. Yes he is a good defender but he is only for future. If Cacapa leaves we dont have any experienced defender who is over 30 so we badly need an experienced defender like Upson, etc
Maybe we can sign a defender who is 31 or 32 and keep him for 1 or 2 seasons and then we can promote Kadar as u mentioned

shame, i’m a huge fan of viduka. Holds the ball up brilliantly and will always have an eye for goal. But as has been said, he’s on huge wages and is losing his legs. still, hopefully he can get on the scoresheet for us a good few times before the summer arrives.

Kadar is ready enough for 4th choice.

He has already been called up for his national team, and this is when he was 17.

If Viduka would go on a pay as you play contract, Id still have him, but I cant see him accepting it.

If Colo gets injured…who we are going to play in CB… Bassong and Taylor- remember both are in early 20s and still in learning stage same as Kadar. So I dont think Kadar is good choice for 4th choice for now but maybe 2 or 3 seasons later. An experienced defender is needed when Colo gets injured

Sell ’em all and build a carpark. Hold car boot sales selling MS’s rubbish gear.

For MS read MA. The duke is not being offered a new contract for one single reason – money!

What do you think? Owen / Smith / Barton anyone?

I would be sad to see Edgar go. Far, far better technically than Taylor, but I guess his face doesn’t fit. Edgar could even be a converted defensive midfielder.

    Cacapa, Let him go.
Viduka, had as stated above a great first touch and could either shoot or lay the ball off, unfortunately he spends more time in re hab than playing, sorry got to go.
    Edgar, not PL class, sorry.
What about Sissoko, we still interested ?
    (not the ex L`pool Sissoko)

they’ll be paying Owen with Viduka, Edgar and Cackapas wages man!!

I hope Duke stays – because as a sub – he is a great option – but likely to be too dear to sit on the bench

If we can offload Viduka in January we should do it to save on his excessive salary. Same goes for Cacapa although in his case, we need a quality replacement.

Always liked Edgar since he scored the equilaizer against Man Utd but never really been given a chance.

It’s time, Newcastle start loaning out our youngsters like Man Utd, Aresenal, etc so they gain valuable experience. Even if they don’t make the grade in PL, they maintain a resale value in the lower leagues….

I wonder if Smith will be fit enough to sell in January?

I don’t see what Edgar has done wrong. He’s always looked as good as Taylor when I’ve watched him.

why let edgar go? i might be a little biased but i think he’s a great young prospect! just as good as taylor if you ask me and he’s only 21! we should keep him…6’2 future captain of canada…so what the hell did he do wrong? from the reports i read he totally carries the reserve team on his shoulders. cacapa cost us points EVERYTIME he played, and he was still preferred…

if he leaves i’ll be sad, unless he’s comes home to TFC

viduka as sub? c’mon man…subs should be our youngsters… if we keep oldtimers as subs..our youngsters won’t progress… he should leave, as should cacapa, edgar (for his own sake…he’s not a bad player and he deserevs to play first team football…somewhere), and we should defently sell smith…the guy cost us 6 mil in fee, another 4 in wages and (at least) 10 wins… as for duff, and geremi…i’d wait until the summer…’cos they’re not bad back-ups, but they cost us way too much (65k/week…for a subs…wtf??)

Didn’t want us to sign him in the beginning, true he has had some good games for us but he is not the player he was and is never likely to be. Want I do want to see is some of the youngsters getting extensions on their contracts.

Let the Duke’s contract run down. A great touch and turn for a big man but has seen less action than the regimental mascot. If he gets a sudden improvement from now until May, fair enough but otherwise look at the stats.

If only Duff’s contract expired in the summer too. Viduka – Huge wages, rarely fit. Time to go.
Cacapa – Past it, not PL quality. Time to go.
Edgar – Looks shit at full back, somewhat decent at centre back. His lack of ambition is what worries me though.

Then in the summer, sell Duff. Sell Geremi too if we can get a replacement.
