Kinnear – Difference Between Capello And Me Is £5M

Joe Kinnear was asked today about the comparison Newcastle owner Mike Ashley made this week, when Mike came out and said Joe was his hero, and that that he thought he was better than England manager Fabio Capello.

Capello and Kinnear – the difference between them is £5M    😀

And what did Joe say about that – there is a difference between us – £5M.

That’ refers to the perceived difference in wages the two are receiving.  It’s well known that Joe Kinnear is getting nowhere near what previous managers at the Newcastle club were getting.

Big Sam and Kevin were said to be on £3M/year, but Joe would be lucky if he’s one 1/6 of that amount, although £500K/year is still fabulous to ordinary people like us.

Joe was asked about the Fabio Capello comparison and said:

“I didn’t see the Fabio Capello comments, I was told about them,”

“There’s only one difference between us – I’m five million quid behind him!”

“If I can get hold of that article I think I’ll frame it, and then drop round his (Ashley’s) house with that article.”

If Joe can do really well for the rest of the season, and if he can get us into Europe, we’d be very surprised if the new owners would want to replace Joe as manager in the summer.

And even if they did, Joe should have no worries, because another club would give him the opportunity he craves.

One good thing about being Newcastle manager, is that the press coverage is always way over the top, and if you are doing well, then everybody and their brother knows about it.

And Joe has been doing quite well so far – and the coverage is getting positive.

Comments welcome.

In general, Joe is pretty straight in what he says and most of it is common sense. And that’s what is most successful about him.
Is there a note of cynicism in his comments after being a bit of a peacemaker, if not altogether an apologist for FatAsh?

And does anyone deserve more than 500k p.a. for football?

yeah i reckon they do. if jk gets us into europe, or for that matter keps us in the premiership then his work will have earned the club considerably more than 500k. its all relative. i’d give him my annual salary if he gets us into 5th/6th

joe kinnear is way much better than fcapello for me coz, kinnear speaks out alot optimism, want quality players, talent players,a good character players n tough players…capello wants quality n good players…less speaking from him..not confident on england players..capello say door for owen is still open coz defoe, ashton, bent, johnson arent good enough..so owen is good…

Lets see if we are all still positive after tomorrow.

We are all getting carried away by one result – I hope its not another false dawn – but we have all got too many scars from previous expectations

er, what new owners in the summer??? ashley will not sell. esp in the very unlikely event we make europe too. he will keep us. to be honest, that would not be a bad thing but i hate lambiarse and wise with a real passion, more so lambiarse. get rid of that twat and get us a real chairman like dein or someone then i’d be happy enough for ashley to hang around.

I still dont understand something about this club. If we are losing all they fan expect us to survive relegation but if we have won a game then its top 6. This is not right. We cannot set expectation that the club cannot achieve and put the pressure on the team. I will be optimistic and say a 10th place a minimum and anything else is a bonus

Pay him with the same basic salary but also with extra bonuses if he wins games.

neozero – i think the calls for 6th are abit premature, but it is very possible. It is also very possible for us to to sucked back into the bottom 3. The nature of the league is that a few wins and good results and you are back in contention for Europe, a few losses then your in relegation fight.

Joe is on 50k a game Ed, so a lot more than £500k a year.

    @Desmond.

I’m ok with the bonus structure so long as they fine him everyting he plays 6 defenders at the same time
