RedKnapp Reveals He Was All Set To Join Newcastle

Spurs new boss Harry Redknapp has today revealed on a Friday last January (January 11th) when news of his move to Newcastle was all over the media, he said he had decided to take up the challenge at Newcastle United Football Club.

Harry Redknapp – all set to become Newcastle manager in January

Redknapp came close to being Michael Owen’s boss at Newcastle, but he finally turned down the offer to move to the North East last January.

Harry said today:

“I was absolutely nailed on to go at one time, I had really made up my mind to go,” “On the Friday night I was going to go.”

“I went out with my wife and Frank Lampard Senior and his wife Pat for dinner, and I sat down and we had a chat. I just decided I was happy where I was at the time.”

“It was just a big upheaval at that stage of my life – living up north and moving away. There were lots of factors, but personal factors more than football.”

“As far as football went you couldn’t knock being manager of Newcastle because it’s a fantastic club and a great challenge for anybody.”

Like most successful marriages, and Harry certainly has one, the wife is the real boss, and we think Harry’s wife didn’t want him to move so far away to Newcastle, from their Portsmouth home. We don’t know if that is true, but we’d hazard a guess that was the real reason.

But Harry is a gentleman, and has been more than complimentary of the Newcastle club, and how the Board handled his whole situation. But of course we had Chris Mort involved at that time, and Chris was a good man, and as straight as a dye.

Pity we couldn’t get him back to the club.

Harry has ended up with his dream job at Spurs, so things worked out well for him in the end.

Anyway Harry may not be as happy after the game tomorrow afternoon, because our lads will be going all out to give our fabulous fans a Very Merry Xmas – with a win.

Howay The Lads!!

He may inspire the players but he did not inspire me as a fan. Glad we never got him and hope we can do a job on them this weekend. It would be nice to have three points and see those points do something other than save us from relegation. Something to build knowing we can get points against wigan and then giving us a lottle breathing room should Liverpool prove too much….though with torres out I dont see much threat.
