Ameobi Starts For Martins Today

tottenham-hotspur.png

As expected Oba Martins misses out for Newcastle, because of the groin injury he picked up last week, during last Sunday’s 3-0 win at Portsmouth.

And Joe has decided to bring in local lad Shola Ameobi, who is just one goal short of 50 for the Magpies, as the replacement for Oba.

Otherwise the side in unchanged from last week, and Steve Harper, Damien Duff, Geremi, Steven Taylor, David Edgar, Mark Viduka and Andy Carroll make up another strong subs bench.

Former starters Damien Duff and Steven Taylor again have to settle for a place on the bench, and for Spurs,  former Newcastle players Jonathan Woodgate (back) and Jermaine Jenas (calf) are both absent this afternoon.

However, Luka Modric, a target of Newcastle United last May is fit enough to play, and takes his place in Spurs’ midfield, with Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko leading the line for the Londoners.

TEAMS

Newcastle United: Shay Given, Habib Beye, Jose Enrique, Sebastien Bassong, Fabricio Coloccini, Danny Guthrie, Nicky Butt, Jonas Gutierrez, Charles N’Zogbia, Shola Ameobi, Michael Owen (c)
Subs: Steve Harper, Damien Duff, Geremi, Steven Taylor, David Edgar, Mark Viduka, Andy Carroll

Tottenham: Gomes, Didier Zokora, David Bentley, Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Luka Modric, Michael Dawson, Verdan Corluka, Ledley King (c), Benoit Assou-Ekotto
Subs: Gareth Bale, Chris Gunter, Fraizer Campbell, Adel Taarabt, Cesar Sanchez, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Jamie O’Hara

Referee: Andre Marriner
Attendance: tbc

Still no kids on bench even, why don’t he at least put Lua Lua there. I see Doncaster have an Ameobi, is he one of the clan?

As expected Oba is out. Bad tho’ cause he likes to score against the Spuds. Well hopefully Ameobi grabs his chance and he scores one.

Would love to see Owen score, then pull out his short and show the fans a T-shirt with the following comment:
“I SIGNED MY NEW CONTRACT BEFORE TODAY’S GAME”.

Followed by a goal of Gutierrez who then shows where his nickname comes from.

    Come on Geordies!!!!

    Oba fan

That is all fantasy stuff but nice none the less lol. I’m going for a 2-0 win for the lads. Owen and Jonas to get the goals.

Sad Oba’s out, would’ve loved to see a rocket like at white hart lane 2 seasons ago. But think Ameobi is up for it at St. James’, and we still have Futierrez, Owen, Zogs and such on the field.

Hi guys, looking at the teams I think we should win this one and finally breakaway from the bottom 3, it seems sunderland may have been shackled by Keano and its about time we got some consistancy going, a good crimbo run would be nice.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere to watch the match live online?

    2-1 toon, Owen, Butt

I’m hoping but this will be a very tough game, and i dont care what anyone says, just like a great player doesnt go bad over night, a bad player like ameobi doesnt get good over night. We’ll be relying heavily on Owen and hope bambi on ice can knock the ball on to him and not just get in tangled up in his feet. Need a big game from Butt with no errors and Spidey to get on the sheet.
