There have been recent mischievous reports in the gossip papers that Michael Owen will wait until January, so he can talk to other clubs, to see what contract offers he may get.
Michael Owen – Joe expects decision in 3 or 4 days
But we don’t think that’s what Michael wants to do, or will do, and after the terrific last minute win against Spurs at St. James’ Park today, Joe Kinnear was asked if he had heard that from Michael or his advisers.
Kinnear responded by saying:
“No, that hasn’t been indicated to me. I am confident if we can agree on terms, it boils down to terms, nothing else.”
“The length of contract is perfect, he is happy with that, it just boils down to terms.”
“We have to sit down with Michael and the people who represent him and try to strike a deal.”
“I don’t think there is anything else we can do, we have both really got to agree on a number.”
“As far as I have been informed, that’s supposed to be in the next three or four days.”
And of course Newcastle are now up to 12th place in the league, after being near the bottom of the league after Kevin Keegan walked out on the club, presumably over a transfer dispute, in early September.
Newcastle’s chances of hanging on to their captain were heightened today by a second league win in succession against Spurs at ST. James’ Park, and now 6 games without a defeat.
Newcastle fans are in good spirit for the holidays, that’s for sure. 😀
There are also definite signs that Mike Ashley will work in concert with Joe and Dennis Wise to ensure Kinnear can strengthen the squad, by bringing in as many as 5 players next month.
If those players are class players, we’ll at least have a decent asquad, that may even be big enough, and then we can further strengthen in the summer.
Hopefully, Michael will have signed on the dotted line by then, along with Ameobi, Butt and Harper.
