Newcastle Reported After French 18 Year-Old Wonder Kid

It’s Sunday again and it’s 10 days to the opening of the January transfer window so we would expect Newcastle United to be linked with some new players today, and we’re not disappointed.

Mamadouu Sakho – 18 year old star defender with strange haircut

The People says that Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear is after Paris St Germain’s brilliant young defender Mamadou Sakho – and hopes to pull off a transfer-window next month for the youngster.

Sakho, just 18, has already captained PSG and has played for them 20 times already and has also represented the France Under-17 and France Under-18 sides.

The 6’2” youngster can play at either left back or center-back and they are probably heartened by how well 22 year old Sebastien Bassong has been a bargain buy for the Newcastle side.

We were first linked with this player last April , when Kevin Keegan talked about him, so he is a long term target of the club, and now may be the time to move for him. He turns 19 in February.

The news today is that the youngster was watched again by Newcastle scouts against Twente Enschede last week – but it was interesting that other Premier League clubs were well represented at that game.

PSG want around £6M for their star youngster, and that sounds a lot, but not if he becomes a top class player in the next couple of years and Mamadou fits into Newcastle’s strategy under Mike Ashley of buying players young, who have still to develop fully as footballers.

Sakho has been at Paris Saint-Germain since he was 11 years old and he was initially a striker, but was moved to defense and he usually plays at left back or even as a left wing back, and is also useful in the middle of defense because of his height.

He made his first-team and Ligue 1 debut on October 20, 2007 against Valenciennes FC and surprisingly he also captained the squad, and became the youngest ever captain of Paris Saint Germain and also the youngest player ever to captain a side in the French Ligue 1, at 17 years and 8 months.

We haven’t seen this lad play, but he looks like he could become a top class player, and since Joe has to look at players at around £5M each, he could be a very good buy indeed, as it looks like he’s pure class from his CV.

Comments welcome.

No problem with us signing him or similar, but what about some of our present vunder kids (deliberate spelling) getting some pitch time.

This guy is a class above our ‘wonder’ kids, he’s already captained PSG for god’s sake, and that was when he was still only 17!

Also he’s amazing on Football Manager 😛

My housemate is a mad PSG fan so I watch a fair few of their games. This lad is class and will definitely be a world class player. I wouldn’t be too concerned with the fact that he captained PSG, as their manager Le Guen doesn’t put much stock in the captaincy. £6 million would be an absolute bargain for him, which is why I don’t believe this story. PSG fans would be very disappointed with his sale and especially with the fee. I can’t see PSG selling many players in January as they are pushing for a title challenge and believe they can at least qualify for the champions league.

Other PSG players to look out for are
    Stéphane Sessegnon – excellent midfielder
Guillaume Hoarau – Tall striker like Crouch and has scored the same amount of goals in ligue 1 as Benzema

I love signing young up and coming players, but i worry we could end up in the same boat as we are with Enrique!

Lets face it Enrique came with a good reptation and a big price and hes average at best, however is’still’ promising, as his Pompey display showed!

We do however need another LB, as Bassong is NOW a CB. Dont mess this kid around, he a gem.

    Cacapa out, Sakho in.
Agree MARK G. I remember Hoarau’s stats when he was at Le Havre were very impressive. Nice to hear he’s continued in good form. Big bugger n’all, real handful for defenders. Love it if we got them both, love it. Can’t see it happening though.

Enrique is only just getting a decent run in the team which is probably why he is only starting to show why he got his rep. Even the best players take some time to settle in.

Sign him, Moussa sissoko and Henry Saivet and we would have the future core of the French national team at Newcastle (hopefully including Seb Bassong).

Sakho would be a cracking signing for us, a young up and coming defender who already has a lot of experience with his club. It is always a worry when you buy players like this, that they may not cut it, but I would definitely take a chance with him!

Agreed. Watched this lad a few times and he seems real quality. I would be looking to snap him up as 6m is a bargain. Him and sissoko would be a very good january dealing 🙂 perhaps this is one of Kinnear’s £6m pound signings? I certainly hope so! Come on today lads and beat spurs 🙂

    What is the point?

We have Kadar who is a CB who can play LB.

Sakho is good but he is a CB who isn’t better than our current 2 and when at LB he cant attack for toffee.

Completely pointless speculation and would be a pointless buy.

Excellent player, so is Hoarau a good replacement for Viduka. I’ve seen a guy called Sofiane feghouli (not sure of spelling) a couple of times, plays for Grenoble who is also an exciting creative midfielder, maybe a bit small for Kinnear’s liking though

Waste of money cos we don’t need him.We already have 3 excellent CB’s….and Sakho is NOT the type of player who’s gonna sit on the bench in Newcastle and Taylor won’t allow to be 4th choice…….someone has to leave then.

Hoarau right now is shoulder to shoulder with Benzema…….don’t know why they rate Benzema so so high, for me he’s nothing special tbh.
    He’s good don’t get me wrong,but for 30-35 mill…..I DON’T THINK SO 😉

why we want him now?we already have kadar, tozer, etc. Right now we need an experieced LB and also another experienced CB in the summer to replace Cacapa
we need experienced defenders and not youngsters

Azim: Having watched Sakho play for PSG on numerous occasions, I would say that he is already good enough and experienced enough to replace Cacapa and is certainly a better prospect than Tozer and Kadar, and I would say that he would be an absolute bargain for £6m.

yes! snap their hands off and get this lad signed up, definately what we should be doing. i’d like to point to TSG Hoffenheim as an example of signing young promising players. c’mon ash, splash ur cash if you’re serious about staying.

also, tom, whats kadar been like recently, is he playing for the reserves? i know you like teh lad, but has he even made the bench yet? you once compared him to cannavaro (hopefully fabio, not paolo!), still feeling the same way?

Looking at the confidence of Carroll, I think he is better than Hoarau and will develop into a world class striker in his next life.

As for Sakho, I don’t really like the idea of signings expensive youngsters when there are equally good ones out there.

I recommend Salid Deenis. This player is going to be better than Messi except the fact that he doesn’t exist yet. I’m sure when he does exist, he is going to be world class and by then I’ll be the first to comment that he is good. I can be proud of that.
