Joe Kinnear has hinted more than once recently that Mike Ashley could well remain in charge of the Newcastle United club, simply because he will not be able to sell the club any time soon.
Mike Ashley – he can learn from his mistakes
Add to that the success that Joe has had recently at Newcastle, and it seems Mike has become reinvigorated with his passion for the Tyneside club, and also if course his three kids are big big supporters of the side, and want their father to hold onto the club.
Mike may well be reconsidering whether he wants to sell the club.
Kinnear said on Saturday:
“He wants to get back on the scene and rebuild the club.”
“I get the sense that he is planning to be here a bit longer. His passion for the club has been reinvigorated.”
“He would stay on as owner and I would stay on as manager. I have been told my job is safe as long as he is here.”
“Mike has already mentioned the possibility of staying on if the club is not sold.”
“He said, ‘you’ll always be with me as long as I’m here’.”
Well if indeed Mike wants to rebuild the club let’s start in January, and we can always see how we are in the summer, and we can further improve the squad.
Steve Wraith, editor of the Players Inc fanzine, told The Shields Gazette this morning:
“To be honest, you would prefer the club stays in the hands of the current owners if it’s going to go to the wrong people.”
“The bottom line is whatever is best for the club.”
Don’t really know if it’s just us, but we’d like the club to come together some time soon, and let there be more harmony around the place.
Certainly things have felt a lot better lately, now that Joe has the side buzzing, and the players themselves seem a lot happier these days. That follows all the terrible political stuff that has been going on at the club, and that’s a credit to the lads.
These are some things Mike should consider doing before he makes any statements about keeping Newcastle United:
- Replace Dennis Llambias with either Chris Mort, which Mike will probably find hard to do, or else some other business executive who has some football management experience.
Derek Lalmbias, however good he may be at other businesses, just doesn’t cut the mustard at Newcastle United.
- Fund current manager Joe Kinnear with what it takes to allow Joe to bring in the five players he wants in the January transfer window.
If Mike can give Joe say £12M, that would probably be enough, because we feel certain Joe will cash in on some other fringe players at the club to generate money – like Spanish striker Xisco.
- Mike can even Dennis Wise in place, because many Newcastle fans are starting to see that Wise might even be good at his job. Certainly our scouts have identified some good players, and we’d love to see French 18 year-old Mamadouu Sakho arrive in January. The club has been tracking the lad for at least 9 months now. Even if he costs us £6M, he’d be well worth it.
Dennis Wise also seems to get on quite well with Joe, and there is not the rather obvious big personality clash that seemed to be there with Kevin Keegan
- Put in place, maybe through Joe Kinnear, how he will communicate in the future with Newcastle fans. Maybe a piece in the match program each home game – Words from the Owner – or something like that.
It appears that Mike may be as daft as the rest of us on Newcastle, and that’s not a bad thing – but please let us know what you are thinking, Mike. Joe could be a big help here.
So those are some points Mike could think about to help improve things at the club, and he’s already admitted he’s made some big mistakes at Newcastle.
But who of us haven’t in this life?
It may a good time, after the hearing completes on Kevin Keegan’s £8M claim against the club, to start writing a new chapter at Newcastle United.
Certainly Joe Kinnear and the players would just love it, and Steve Wraith hits the nail right on the head, when he says:
“The bottom line is whatever is best for the club.”
So be it.

Comment #121i agree..sell owen…he’s a good striker..but like i said many times…he can only score goals against poor sides..there’s no way he could score against good defenders… and in my definition, that’s not world class…
i believe he won’t stay in england..i think he’ll move to milan…to resort for old timers…to replace inzaghi…
