Joey Barton Leaving Newcastle? – Not Likely

The Sunday Mirror reported more nonsense yesterday on Newcastle United, so we suppose we should be used to it by now.

Joey Barton – not leaving Newcastle

They reported that Newcastle’s Board will try to offload Joey Barton in the summer, in order to try to recoup the £5.8M they paid Manchester City for the player eighteen months ago.

The Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear revealed recently that Barton will not return to first-team action until possibly Marc

That follows his slight tear to his right medial ligament in his knee he sustained last month,  in the 2-2 draw with Wigan.   The injury is apparently healing very slowly.

But what Newcastle are missing in their squad right now is an attacking and creative midfielder, and that sounds exactly like the player Joey Barton is, so why would we ever sell Joey?

Yes, he’s done a lot of wrong in the past, there’s no doubt about that, but Joey now has a good opportunity to put all that behind him. And although that could be difficult for him, he will get the chance to do just that at Newcastle United.

And by the way, manager Joe Kinnear has no intention whatsoever of letting Joey leave Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

not a chance of Barton leaving. he looked like he was in Excellent form when he returned and started for us. Cant wait for him to get back from injury, just a shame its alot worse than was originally thought. He takes the game by the scruff of the neck and plays with passion that Joe seems to be getting out of all the lads recently. Should slot back into the squad seamlessly when he returns 😉

    Joey Barton owes Newcastle United.

He owes us a lot. He’s a passionate lad so I’ve no doubt he’ll want to repay our faith in him.

The board would be stupid to let go of a player that was on the fringes of the England side only a few years ago, and who has a serious point to prove.

To be honnest, i think he is a good player who can add lots of quality to our squad, but if he leaves I would not be too bothered as long as he is replaced with a good player of the same quality.

How many games did he play for us (not only because of his attitude but he also has had lots of annoying injuries)?

Joey Barton is great and i can’t wait for his return. However, Guthrie has been fantastic since he has been brought back in and he deserves his spot.

jimnufc – not dreaming mate, reckon the Toon is just making a late play to play Champions League football next year. Only need to win all our games then we are there eh?!!

gotta laugh at what is a totally dysfunctional set up – that being City. Not saying the Toon has not been without its problems this season but really they are in trouble, I reckon if they don’t win over the Christmas / New Year period, old sparky will be facing the electric chair.

Howay50 – i’m resisting the temptation to laugh at City. If we go through another bad patch we’ll fly down the league just as quickly.

They’re also the most likely candidate to steal Micky Owen and will have millions available to spend in January.

“hughes doesnt know what he’s doing, the squad is crap, we need this that and the other”

was hilarious, they expected to buy champions league football in their first season with these sheiks by the sounds of things. serve’s them right, i hate the whole idea of spending god knows how much and buying your way to success, would love them to stay down there.

every single paper is full of shit. i think that its a disgrace that they are allowed to basically lie and try to destablise clubs just to sensationalise stories out of their arses.
joey wont leave, i have always liked him and i am pretty sure most of us do if we are honest.. besides, he is nuts along with jfk so i think them two will get along very well. we already gave away milner, i dont want zogs or barton going or guthrie either. i think owen will not sign though which is a shame.

It’s funny how they were expecting to be world-beaters all of a sudden. They got bought by mega-rich sheiks, yes, but they only really bought Robinho in the summer.
Actually they also bought Jo for around 18 million, but what has he done this season?

Maybe in the next couple of seasons they might be able to challenge the big teams, but not just yet.
It’s still good to laugh at them though, they’re almost as deluded as Spurs fans 😛

I’d love if we could get Zabaleta,he’s the only RB which i rate higher than Beye.

    Elano….Playmaker we desperatelly need

We need to take advantage on City’s exodus in January

    Hi Spyro,
    i’m ok mate, ta!..

…Well i think JK has done a great job gettin’ everyone singin’ from the same song-sheet to start with…& he’s done what past coaches seem to have been scared to do-stick with a winnin’ team, regardless of who is on the bench…He’s made a couple of sub mistakes, but you’ve gotta remember that we probably knew our team better than him, he’s gettim’ there tho’!..
    …At last a proper defense in Beye/Colo/Bassong/Enrique…
…& got them concentratin’ on defendin’ 1st, rather than rushin’ up field to much…It ain’t rocket surgery, but no-one else seemed to get that!?!..
…Just hope we don’t lose anyone in Jan & get a few (3/5) in, buy or loan!..
…Oh yea, & he seems to know how to rejuvenate players, again unlike past coaches!..
    …Weird isn’t it?..

…But, like players, i’m from the camp of: you don’t have to be a name player/coach to be good, specially if you have some balls & a plan!..
    …What do you think?..

    My thoughts exactly mate.

In terms of January, i would like to see Cacapa, Edgar, Smith all depart, but i would keep everyone else. Especially Geremi and Xisco, Geremi was awesome in DM the other week and Xisco hasn’t been given a chance yet.

What do you think of Bassong? How long you reckon until the “top clubs” come knocking?

barton had his moments but with kinnear i feel he can be the one to get the best out of him. he needs to be shown the way, and joe can help with that. if when he comes back in march and he plays a blinder, than that for me is another reason why joe should be given a year long rolling contract.
poor lad knows no different than his thuggish ways and i sincerely hope for nufc’s and his own sake, he can bury his past and stand up and be counted.

also ed, you’re brilliant! merry xmas and best wishes for the new year and keep it up!

    Spyro,

at last i found someone, how understands that Geremi can still offer Newcastle (and its small squad) something worthwhile!

Granted he struggles to last 90 min’s and his crosses / corners are 50/50 and can look terrible at times, BUT:

The other 50% of his corners / crosses are brilliant and he has been involved in countless goals.
Hes verstile and can do the DM or the RB role no problem. At a push can cover for RW, but struggles with the pace of the game out on the wing.
Hes got quality, no matter how old quality never leaves.
    Hes experienced………

In a nut shell, he is worth sticking around for the squads sake.

Its about time the likes of Butt, Viduka and Geremi got some credit for thier roles. I’m sick of hearing on this site how we should sell those players and throw on the likes of Carroll, Kadar and Ranger.

Some one today commented on how disappointed he was by Viduka coming on for Shola against Spurs, as he thought Carroll should have been given a go !!!

    ARRRRGH i could scream!

    Rant over!

Dont get me wrong some of these young players look outstanding, but thats at youth and reserve level. Give them time and dont rush them, in the mean time use the oap’s!
