Match winner Damien Duff wants to ensure there is no repeat of the Xmas horror performance at Wigan when in last year’s similar fixture, Newcastle were just hopeless in going down to a 1-0 defeat.
Duff – going beserk after scoring great winning goal Sunday
And that was probably the start of Mike Ashley thinking then manager Big Sam just didn’t play the right football for a club like Newcastle United, whose fans have always applauded good attacking football.
Big Sam was sacked about two weeks later and Kevin Keegan came in and the rest is now history, although not particularly good history for our famous club.
Duff has talked about making amends for last year’s Boxing Day performance in front of 5000 loyal traveling Geordie fans.
Whatever happens on Friday, it’s hard to imagine a Joe Kinnear team playing that badly, because if they played like that in the first half, they would get such a rollicking from the Irishman at half time, that they’d all probably want to get onto the field very early for the second half to make amends.
And those words that Colloccini just doesn’t understand from Joe, will in all likelihood be ringing in their ears. 😀
But of course all things are possible in football.
Damien Duff, our match winner on Sunday, who is also having his best season at the club under Joe, told nufcTV the players want to make amends for last year’s hopeless performance:
“Every time we go to Wigan we get fantastic backing,” “There were 5,000 fans there last year and they weren’t too happy.”
“We’ve got a chance to make up for that this Boxing Day and hopefully we’ll give them something to cheer about.”
It should be another close game, because Steve Bruce, always looks on the game against his home town club as something special, and will have Wigan very well prepared indeed.
But this is game we can win, especially since we let two points slip against them at St. James Park a few weeks back,
We can make up for that with a good win on Friday.

Comment #45Let them come at our solid defense then hit them on the break with a fired up Zog and Jonas combo. It will work time and time again as they have to go for an equalizer.
COME ON THE MIGHTY TOON 3 in a row.
I Smell Revenge. Shambles can not possibly play as well as last time.
