Enrique Getting Into His Stride At Newcastle United

Jose Enrique has looked a much better player of late, and had another more than decent game on Sunday, when he showed fans he is quicker than we thought, and he did a good job of marking the dangerous Aaron Lennon.

Jose Enrique – playing well again for Newcastle

The lad is getting better all the time, just as he performed last season when he got an expended run in the side.

Joe Kinnear seems to be very pleased with the youngster, who has showed he is more than willing to fight for his place in Newcastle’s side.

Joe Kinnear talked about Enrique with the Evening Chronicle today:

“The point is that Jose’s working hard on his game.”“We’ve got to get more from him week in, week out.”

“At times, he had the pace to keep up with Lennon, and he’s never an easy player to play against.”

“Lennon’s very direct, and it was mainly him who was whipping the crosses in, but Jose did very well against him.”

We like Jose a lot, mainly because he’s a fighter and gives 100% in every game for Newcastle. Since he seemed so fast on Sunday and crosses the ball extremely well, we wonder what he’d be like playing on the left wing, or as a left wing back?

Just a thought, but we look to Jose keeping up his good form on Friday at the JJB Stadium against Wigan, which is yet another crucial game.

No doubt in January Joe will bring in another left back, to challenge Jose for that position, as a general move to increase the quality of the squad and increase the competition for places.

Sounds good to us.

This is two fingers up to those who don’t rate Enrique.

Enrique was never torn apart by Lennon. Straight from JK’s mouth.

He is starting to look good in the past few games. However, we really need a good and experienced left back.

No mate, i am not. I do not believe the nonsense that came out today for a number of reasons previously stated. N’zogbia has been my favourite player for years now and his recent interviews are the happiest and most focused i have ever heard him. Whether or not that changes between now and the summer is a different matter all together, but right now, i think he is happy here and has no plans to leave anytime soon.

I was really surprised at how Jose kept up with Lennon, not many prem full backs can. Enrique is quick, maybe just needs to bulk up(remember Evra’s debut season, quick but too light) Maybe a few hours in the gym will do the trick. But hes Starting to look every penny worth the 6m

Ive got a feeling Wise has been busy and we will add some more quality players to the squad!

I’d like to buy a versatile player like Chris Gunter who can play both RB and LB instead of replacing Enrique.

My thoughts on Enrique have never changed. This lad is a great footballer and the more he plays the better he gets. His work rate and all round game against Tottenham was outstanding. Leave him at left back, that’s his position and to add more joy at Xmas I can see a great partnership developing with Zog. I thought Enrique’s through ball to Owen in the 1st half, more like whipped in with pinpoint accuracy was just incredible. If Owen had got hold of that it would have been the goal of the season. Enrique will be knocking on the door of the Spanish side next year and when he gets in will be there for a longtime. One other outstanding bit of defending was when he managed to get a foot on the ball in the 6 yard box otherwise Spurs would have scored. Well done Enrique you are rapidly becoming one of the best full backs in the premiership.

Jose has impressed me the past month or so. He’s starting to look the part now, and the back 4 certainly look far more settled with more understanding between them. I mean look how calmly they all played the ball across the back, no rushing or punting the ball when they didnt need to…all good to see.

I dont think we need Baines, unless Joe still thinks he’s going to replace enrique??

He’s improving…but cmon, I thought Lennon gave him a real torrid time on sunday!

Spurs should have scored twice on sunday when he left him for dead! Once in the first half when he whipped it in the six yards box and the hapless pavlychenko was no where to be seen; then in the second half when campbell should have scored from a header. but he came in on it to soon! A better striker would have killed us off on these occassions then jose would have been slaughtered!

I havent got a vendeta! I hope the boy succeeds because we need a solid left back at the club.

Spyro; JK isnt going to come out and point out these faults; for his players confidence sake he has to talk him up! Anyone who listens to the legends show on century would have heard Malcolm Macdonald pointing out exactly what i have just posted.

I have to judge it how i see it; if you compare Jose to Beye on the opposite flank then in my opinion he has a long long way to go before we start dishing out plaudits. JK will buy another left back in January; FACT. This should provide a little bit of competition and i say then let the best man for the job win.

Blackburn apparently are not going to permanently secure the services of Villeneuva, maybe we should go in for him. A £5.000.000 player that has looked decent so far and can play AM/RM/LM. Not too shabby eh?

on his day there is no more dangerous right winger than lennon – jose will not come up against many quicker, and don’t forget enrique laid on martins goal against portsmouth, so he’s not just developing as a defender.
He’s a young kid getting to grips with the pressure of moving quite early in his career to the toughest league in the world. We have to be able to recognise when we have a player of real potential and back him – how else do you get experienced?

Lennon beat him a few times, but then again, i have seen Lennon beat Clichy a few times, EVra a few times etc. It is almost impossible to keep Lennon quiet the whole game. I am not comparing Jose to either full backs mentioned, but considering the form Lennon is in, limiting the pacey winger to only a few crosses is commendable. Even the commentators during the game pointed out that Enrique had played very well.

Enrique indeed is getting better and better. And it never is bad to have competionf for the LB spot in our team, but I do not rate Baines. He is overrated IMO. We should go (and I said that last summer also) for:

    – DANTE BONFIM!!!

lennon did skin jose a few times, but lennon can beat anyone on his day, much as we love it when charlie, duff or jonas skin their full backs.

having said that, i don’t remember lennon beating bassong at all in the league cup game earlier this season!

enrique has been playing much better of late, hope it continues! his passing is still pretty bad most of the time though.

I think Villenueva has looked a good player in a poor side. He is very offensive and always looks to pass and move goalwards. Plus, he is versatile in midfield. Something we need.

Has anyone any clue on that Sissoko guy we were “interested” in? He is tall and of African descent…qualities i love in a DM 😀
