Newcastle Must Press On After Owen Disappointment

It was a disappointment yesterday when we heard that Michael Owen will not make a decision on his future until this summer.

michael-owen-33

Michael Owen –  club must press forward with or without him

At that time he will be a free agent and able to accept a big deal from some of the richer clubs, like Manchester City.

But that’s now happened, and the very last thing we want to do is hold any animosity towards Michael. It’s his right to do exactly what he has done, and a number of our readers have rightly pointed out that the club is still hardly in a settled position.

We still don’t know if there will be new owners in the summer, and if there are new owners that come in, there will no doubt be another manager hired, so things are still very much up in the air.

What Joe Kinnear and the Newcastle Board need to do is concentrate even more on bringing in some very good players in January.

And then if Mike Ashley wants to keep the club after all, and is willing to rebuild the club, and try to make us great again, he should make some formal announcement about that, perhaps with a new Chairman being announced at the same time.

Newcastle are doing very well under the passionate management of Joe Kinnear, so let’s not doing anything to rock the boat, and we should always remember the club is much more important than any one player.

Next up is Wigan at the JJB stadium, and we haven’t won there, ever, so that’s a very good reason to go for all 3 points on Boxing Day.

Let’s win that game, and then we can think of Liverpool on the following Sunday.

Joe Kinnear’s mission is to win as many games as he can at Newcastle, and that has to be with or without Michael Owen in the long term.

And after all – he’s only just begun.

A simple way of looking at the situation is that we have 5 or 6 months to find a replacement for Owen, as IMO, he will be leaving.
So lets plan for life after Owen, get ourselves in a good league position and get on with it – going on and on about ‘will he go/ will he stay’ is of no relevance – he will be in the team untill the end of the season (or untill he gets injured) and then he will be off to the best prospective team (or the one who offers him the most money).
After the sweet taste of the last 2 results and a nice 6 points this Owen ‘statement’ certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Real Shame about Owen..I say ship the greedy little tosser out in January and get a new striker bedded in that wants the shirt.

Very disappointed Mr Owen and he has gone right down in my estimation.

    Owens statement is hardly suprising.

The NUFC Board have allowed this situation to develope and Owen cannot be blamed for taking full advantage of it.

He has the chance of a multi £million signing on fee and some good wages and he will take the best offer made to him, for the last 3-4 years of his carreer.

NUFC will only keep MO if thats what MO’s advisers are left with come end of July 2009. We could end up with NOTHING because of the lack of management at the top of the club. Pretty pathetic really.

I completely understand his position as the club is unstable and maybe he is hoping for a sale of the club before the end of the year or a sign of success before he signs on again. I think Man C will spend up big this Jan so Owen staying might rule him out of their side. No one else will pay his wages.

HOWEVER I don’t think he should still be captain of the club. We must respect his position but he must respect ours and given his decision, as a club it would be wise for us to start preparing for his departure. He cant expect the club to go on as normal until he leaves as then we’d have no one to fill the gap. Give Ranger and Carroll some time on the pitch. see if either of the shine and go from there. If they don’t they might need some more time but we will have time to figure out what we need if they or xisco dont step up.

Good timing releasing the statement straight after a win so no one feels it as badly. If we had lost the hate and traitor banners would have come out.

I understand his position but this is bad for the Club if he leaves on a free.
Can we take the chance,Don`t know really.
Might be sold in January but who will pay his wages????????
We need him to sign or get some cash for him

I’m disappointed, but let’s face it, he was never going to have the same loyalty to the club as the likes of Harper or Given…

I think he’ll be focussed on one thing – not money but international football! He’s not getting played and if we’re floundering at the bottom of the table (or worse – in the Championship) then he’ll continue to live on the fringes – he wants the all time scoring record.

Any thoughts on getting Bellamy back if Owen goes.I know he is disruptive and we would have to put up with his gob,but you know your are going to get a consistent hundred percent out of the little bigger and he is a decent striker.

We were saying exactly the same stuff this time last year about Owen, yet he is still with us. I believe I patented the long drawn out ZZZZZZZZ at the time for every time his name was mentioned. So long as he stays with us and injury free till the Summer then I for one aint bovvered. If he then stays, great, if not then we will find a new goal scoring hero, there is plenty of potential of all ages out there.

I have thought about Owen leaving for quite a while now and to honest, with the state of the club ( discounting the recent turn of form ) nothing has changed. The management is still a shambles , no one knows what is going on. Ashley should spend some money in the transfer window to build the team and protect its future, never mind his investment, its our club, and will be when he is long gone and forgotten ( will take some time because of his mismanagement and handling but you get the point). Don’t forget the table is still very tight and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that we could finish up in a European place. Now that is an interesting prospect, and what will cock/crock Owen/robin do then? At the end of the day ( yes it gets dark ) we need a captain who is in love with the club and wants to stay! Can we really say that about Owen……I honestly cannot say yes,and its a real shame.
Most football fans think Owen owes NUFC for paying his inflated wages for the last 3 years during which time he has had very little pitch time, but has contributed some vital goals. In short he owes us big time, and everyone knows it.
The next few months will be very interesting for NUFC.

Ed, whilst the others in here might praise you, I myself find some of your posts incredibly rushed, ill conceived and in most cases not even spell checked as though your desperate for each story to grab you more hits per day in your American website, you yourself being American. This announcement by Owen has pushed me over the edge. It is NO DISAPPOINTMENT all Owen is correctly waiting till the end of the season for is to SEE HOW NUFC FINISH THE SEASON. We might go on a bad run after January and end up 17th or even worse…..
The point im stressing is you are creating these articles when they are fresh from the press without putting any thought into them, your typos becoming worse parallel to the speed in which you are publishing them on here. We might even end up top 8, in which case I would bet a car MO will stay. If you have peoples ears, dont pour trash into them.
Owen will not be leaving, the truth is he enjoys himself here and we are not a small club in our own right. Its just right now we are not stable enough for him to rush a decision like this. Come the summer we should know exactly where we ourselves as a club stand, giving Michael a much more accurate picture to make the biggest contract decision of his life, potentially his last big contract.

as to my view on a earlier thread. He owes loyality as we saved his career but on the same same for now he is going to eb scoring for us not against us. What JK should be doing is looking at making plan B , C and D becuase this this should have been wrapped long ago but MA has dragged his feet on this and MO is going to do the same but we on ther hand shouldnt be slagging him off lets get behind him and the team as we are doing very well at the moment

listen he did same thing to liverpool the club he supposely loved so it was always going to be case he would do it here at newcastle as he never wanted to be here, I SAY WE SELL HIM FOR 5MILLION IN JANUARY AND SPARE OURSELFS ANOTHER 3-4MILLION IN WAGES, at least this way he wont be on 110000 for next 6 months and wont get his massive signing fee from the club he goes to on free transfer which is what he is after same as at madrid… plus whats chances of him staying fit till end of season? One thing micheal has not taught about is what if he gets a big injury next march/april and is out for 10monts or so? what club will have him? no wages then mickey owen none. YEE WONT LIKE IT BUT WE COULD GET BELLAMEY BACK FOR THE MONEY WE GET FOR OWEN

GUYS DO NOT FALL FOR THE ‘N’ZOGBIA NEWS TODAY, WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THIS COMES OUT THE NEXT MORNING AFTER OWEN RELEASED THAT STATEMENT? THE PRESS ARE TRYING TO UNSETTLE THE TEAM BY BRINGING UP COMMENTS MADE BY CHARLES IN THE PAST. THEY HAVE TRIED TO MAKE IT LOOK RECENT BY ADDING VILLA AND PSG TO THE EQUATION, BUT THE QUOTES ARE THE SAME ONES FROM AGES AGO. DO NOT FALL FOR IT, BASSONG CAME OUT JUST TODAY AND SAID ZOGGY IS HAPPY!

Its hard to believe some people in here calling Michael Owen a spent force when the lad is banging the goals in for us. Martin Sheridan, are those your real opinions and thoughts on the situation. Who do you think we would replace MO with and at what price ? He alone makes this club bigger, thats a cold hard fact that is tough to swallow but true none the less. Jonas himself said when he saw Michael Owen in our squad that we must be a decent club. We need that at the moment to attract players. The fact he is a top top player who scores goals for fun. If we want to be a big club we need to start thinking like a big club and get these players tied down not for three and a half years, not for 2 years but for six if necessary. The squad we have now is full of real genuine quality, however its too few. Losing Michael Owen for a brat like Bellamy is in my opinion going back to the dark days when we sold Sir Les for Tomasson. This club needs big players to join, not for their BIGGEST ASSET to leave like that.

This league is now the toughest league in the world, you cannot buy goals for cash now. Not only are players top quality, but they are hard players too. A complete opposite you expect from the likes of Spain and France. To score goals in this league like MO is doing for us, a league which turns over so much revenue on TV RIGHTS, MO deserves that money. Yes its unfortunate our prize assets injury pront, but thats what comes with top draw goods which are slightly tainted. And be honest lads, thats the only top draw products we are going to get right now. So I will continue shouting from the terraces for MO everyday until the lad signs a new 5 year contract with us in July 2009.

Owen could help us get into Europe this season so if he DOES go we can get in a decent replacement.

We would not get podolski from bayern regardless without European football. Use ya brain lad
