Ameobi Could Make The Wigan Game

Shola Ameobi will have a fitness test today and it appears that Joe Kinnear is hoping he will come through that OK, and be available for the important game against Wigan on Boxing Day.

Shola Ameobi could be fit for Boxing Day

The 27-year-old local lad came off just after Spur’s controversial goal on Sunday afternoon, after injuring his hamstring. And that may have been the best thing Shola could have done, so the hamstring was not damaged further, and Mark Viduka came on in his place.

The Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear told nufcTV this morning:

“Shola will have a fitness test today (Wednesday) but we’re hopeful he’ll be OK for Wigan.”

Oba Martins (groin) remains a major doubt for Friday, and will probably not be risked so he can be ready for the cracker-jack game against Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Sunday.

If Shola is fit for Friday, Joe may still elect to start Mark Viduka, who is now slowly getting back to full match fitness.

That game has an early kick off at 12 noon.

If Shola is passed fit and starts with Owen – I hope he sorts his game and puts on a good performance. If he has another lame one then get the dukes or Xisco on!

    ameobi- owen doesnt work…..
owen is not as quick as martins, and is not good at snatching away the ball…

so play ameobi only when martins is playing….

Would also rather give the duke the start and then include Xisco on the bench…althought I rate ameobi higher at the moment than Xisco.

Don’t know if you’ve seen, Ed, but Juanito’s agent has played down the reports linking us with the Spanish defender.

Anyone think that JFK will use Xisco in the FAcup match against Hull and other bench warmers?

Never play that Ameobi wreck… He does nothing in a game. At least you know that Vid will help out the front man and maybe score.

    Happy Xmas to all!!

i’d personally start with xisco…ameobi is not consistent, so i’d leave him for the last 15 min or so…and viduka’s just too slow..and if the ball is in his possesion more then 2 seconds sbd. comes and steal it…he had a very poor mach against tottenham…only good move was a pass to duff, but generaly a very poor match for him… xisco is young, strong, eager,…and quite skillful… he has my vote!

Theres more chance of JK himself getting stripped than putting xisco in!

Graeme- The FA cup is extremely important to JFK so expect a very strong team.

I would play this team in the cup

    —————————-Harper———————–

    —–Beye—–Taylor—-Kadar—–Bass—Enrique

    ———LuaLua———Guthrie———Nzogbia—-

    ——————-Ranger———Xisco—————-

Harper in net because he deserves it.

Beye provides experience to the back 5

    Taylor young and experienced

    Kadar deserves a chance

    Bassong is already a legend

Enrique is young and showing good progress

LuaLua is a great player who deserves a shot

Guthrie is a young talented player

    Nzogbia young and AMAZING!

Xisco must be good to be in the Spain u21s

Ranger, we’ve all heard of his talents except AO lol

p.s.: hull has a poor attack, so i think our young defenders (edgar, kadar) could match them

I know the FA cup in some eyes is exteremely important as a chance of silverware – but for me Im more concerned about keepin injury free and banking points to ensure prem survival!!

    turkish magpie…

never play amiobi there, he has no touch and you see what happened when he dropped deep at the weekend? they scored. amiobi should never make a newcastle team and i even said that when he played well for a few matches.

I think we’re being too harsh on Ameobi. Sure, he sucked against Spurs, but can’t we put that down to the injury which he eventually gave into?

Doesn’t that seem sensible given his pretty decent performances the last several matches he’s played?

I’d still start with Owen & Viduka, though. But Shola’s done some good stuff since he’s been back from his hip-op and we shouldn’t write him off so easily. JFK knows what he’s doing.
