Sunday Is Sir Bobby Robson Day – Let’s Celebrate Bobby’s Life

Sir Bobby Robson is a local hero in the North East, and is also known throughout the football world, as one of the most loved people in the game.

Sir Bobby Robson – next to his statue at St. James’ Park

Bobby has also been a Newcastle United fan all his life and was very successful as our manager from 1999 through 2004, when he had the team finish 4th, 3rd and 5th in successive seasons. and of course had us in the European Champions League.

So it is very good news indeed that Sunday`s game against Liverpool is being named Sir Bobby Robson Day, and it has all been set up by the Newcastle United Supporters Club (NUSC) , so good work by them.

Fans are being asked to bring flags, banners and scarves to fully celebrate the fantastic avhievments of Sir Bobby.

Here’s a quote from the NUSC regarding Sunday:

“Its official! Sunday 28th December 2008 will be Sir Bobby Robson day, a day to honour this great Geordie figure and promote the work of his charity.”

“A day to celebrate his life and love of Newcastle United. This is our chance to show Sir Bobby what we really think of him, sing your hearts out and get behind the team, bring a banner and scarf and lets get the stadium bouncing.”

“What do you need to do? simply pass the message on to everyone you know.”

Sunday is a chance to celebrate the magnificent career of our very own Bobby Robson, so please come to cleebrate and we’re sure Joe Kinnear will have the lads ready to give a great performance against the league leaders on Bobby’s special day.

A real legend and yes; should never have been sacked by Newcastle United after what he achieved in such a short period for the club.

Shame on you Freddie Shepherd for doing such a thing to one of the all time football legends of our time…..

Make it a day to remember, and sing your hearts out as he truly is a great man.

    a true Geordie legend

It’s not often one of your own is loved and respected n0t only by the locals but also by the nation.
a true ambassador for the Geordie nation and a true gentleman and he deserves this day more than anyone so lets make good use of that free scarf we got last season and recreate the atmosphere we had at shearers testimonial

Let’s be honest, for the Geordie nation to let Sir Bob know how we feel about him, that would mean more to him than any stand. The stand naming is a great tribute but the universal love of the Geordie nation would mean a great deal more. He’s one of us, a legend – not just to NUFC but the world of football.

A legend and a true gentleman extremely passionate for the game and Newcastle. I will always miss him as our manager and I hope he’s with us for many years to come. Fat Freddie Shepard is a cold blooded animal to sack the one person that deserved to keep the job for life apart from Keegan on his day. Sir Bobby Legend for life and the least the club could do is name a stand in his name. Good work to the NUSC for marking the special day for such a special man who I will always admire.

Fail to understand why a great manager and a local man, Sir Bobby had to wait until he was near retirement age before he was offered the managerial role at St James`s, I think it remains a disgrace which was compounded by eventually firing him for no apparent reason.
Compared with those who preceeded him not to mention those who followed he was a footballing giant.
I like JFK and think he has done a decent job, but I still think Sir Bobby`s “the man”.

If you’d like to donate to Sir Bobby’s cancer charity you can do so via

You can also leave him a message of support – I work for the charity so I know that he does read these.
