Joe Kinnear has rewarded Damien Duff with a starting place against Wigan today, after his great 90th minute goal against Tottenham last Sunday.
And as expected N’Zogbia and Gutierrez will still play on the wings with Duff likely to start up front with captain Michael Owen.
Otherwise the team is unchanged from last weekend, and we expect Mark Viduka at some time to come into the fray.
Xisco is also included on the bench and Joe has 3 center forwards in Viduka, Carroll and Xisco all ready to come on in attack, depending on how the game goes.
But it looks like Newcastle will be going all out for the win today, and if the lads can get all 3 points, St. James’ Park will be rocking on Sunday when we host Liverpool.
Newcastle are also chasing a fourth consecutive clean sheet away from home, and 3 points could see Newcastle move into the top half of the table and maybe even as high as 8th position.

It will allow for Duff and N’Zogbia to swap around up front, meaning N’Zogbia can attempt to exploit the Wigan backline for pace.

Viduka is great but with all that pace we could really hurt the sluggish Wigan defense.

Need to pick ourselves up 2nd half and get some sort of direction and composure. Can’t get any worse can it? Kept it at 1-0 and frankfully played as badly as I can remember this season. Could have been a lot worse if they’d created and taken more clear cut chances. I can see a complete turnaround on the cards. Xisco to get the winner off his left ear.

Our CB’s are clearly on edge due to Zoggy’s poor performance at LB. Bassong has to come and help him every single time. An unchanged back four would have meant a more confident and dominant performance from our defenders i think.

I really can’t believe this ref. He’s f’ed us sooo hard. Jonas hardly touched Taylor. He went down like he was shot after being TAPPED by Jonas. And look what happens. They get a f’ing goal. Then- the bloody ref lets all manner of challenges go by uncalled. So finally, Habib Beye takes an AWFUL challenge. Should’ve been a red card, wasn’t. Now our star RB is out of the game. On more then one occasion today our backline has let Wigan lads in on Given, they’ve gotten back to cover but if they keep going like this we’ll be letting Given more open and we’re leaving ourseves open to conceding, Given saving, or Given getting injured.
We need to get hold of the ball and keep it, and hold our positions in the back.
If we don’t things could get a lot worse.

Firstly, we need to keep the ball.
Given is not helping every time this guy gets the ball even when under no pressure launches it up the field and Wigan start an attack again. We are not winning any headers at all.
Nzogbia is not a left back but circumstance has him there.
Butt needs composure, he is losing the ball too often. It is through him that we should be going forward but if he keeps losing out even when not under pressure.
Stop playing head tennis; aimless headers just to get a touch. Look to take the ball down rather than neat headers because not once have they worked today we have lost the ball on all occasions we have tried such touches.
Trouble Bramble he is likely to make a stupid mistake.

Cattermole’s challenge was another terrible one. was it not him who put Barton out long term aswell. The ref was letting all sorts go, it took a challenge like that for him to finally produce a card.
We are however being outplayed. they’re pressing us every time we have the ball and we’re just giving it away aimlessly around our box. we then seem to just hoof it forward resulting in giving them the ball back when we cant find anything to do along the floor.
its a shame but charlie is having a terrible game at left back, valencia is running him ragged. need a massive turn around in the second half or its gonna be a long day for us. Ref isnt helping at all. Owen looks painfully sluggish.

Wigan is the dirtiest team in the EPL. Every weeek I watch MOTD and every week I hear and see that Cattermole (or something like that) make horrible challenges, hurting other players. Today he’s done the same. The ref is a pig, who is not supposed to lead another game after this one.

Football really is the funniest game. It took two wins for everyone to start believing again. It’s taken one game to show just how little we have to offer and that we look like real relegation fodder. Also now minus injured and suspended players. We got absolutely and comprehensively butchered and yet nearly snatched a draw. Mike Dean proved “there isn’t a god”. Mike Ashley refuses to subsidise us and even if he spent all his available money on today’s performance it would only make us an average side. All in all pretty funny, if you’ve got that sort of sense of humour. H’way it can only get better, can’t it?

Iprefer to see N’Gozia on the bench than at LB. I think Jonas, Butt, Owens and Viduka was really poor today!!!!! We need at least 2 signing in january either by buy or loan. An LB for cover or first XI and a CAM who can play everywhere in the front line.
