Danny Guthrie – Liverpool Game Much Bigger Now

Danny Guthrie had another good game for Newcastle yesterday, and his penalty in the 88th minute was his second goal in three games for the youngster.

Danny Guthrie – man of the match yesterday?

After the game Danny gave an interview to nufcTV, and this is what the 21 year old had to say:

“Obviously the results a blow and we don’t know how bad Habib is yet, and hopefully it’s not too bad – it’s another blow today but we could have snatched something at the end.”

“It was a scrappy game and we always knew it would be a tough physical game coming here and when you go 2-0 down with 10 men it was always going to be uphill struggle.”  “But we got back in the game and could have got something in the end.”

“It was disappointing but you are always going to give free kicks away unfortunately and the lad still had to do a lot from where he was.”

We’re not too happy about the second goal because we thought a foul should have been given outside the box, and we don’t think it was a red card either, but that happens but we can put things right tomorrow.”

“We got back in the game and maybe on another day we could have got something out of it. We still kept going and could have got something out of the game in the end.”

And Danny was asked about Damien Duff’s chance in injury time, when he had a great opportunity to get Newcastle a point but blazed the ball over, after his first touch was disappointing.

Danny added:

“When I saw Duff take the ball I thought he would just smash it in, but it wasn’t to be, but you always fancy the Duffer.”

“Our fans are unbelievable and it’s a long trip for them when you don’t get anything out of it and give them some cheer.”

“It’s a bigger game now against Liverpool, because we do need to get something being at home especially being at home but we‘ve done well against the big teams this year,”

“It’s always a bit of added spice playing against a former team but I’m not going to get too excited about the game – I’ll just try to treat it as a normal game.”

Make sure you put your vote in for Man of the Match in yesterday’s game on our home page .

Currently Danny has 44% of the vote, Carroll has 14%, Given 11% and Gurierrez 10%, but the poll will be open until tomorrow’s game starts against Liverpool.

we were outmuscled by wigan…..and we fell like flies……we got so scared….they psysically bullied us………..and god we were poor.
we might get a bit more time in the middle against Pool….but well lose….here comes the slump…..relegation is still jsut around the corner…
and by the way – Gutierrez im not impressed at all….work rate is good but hes too slow, poor first touch and way too predictable – makes no runs and definately should be playing on the left and not right……time will tell – but im not too impressed

the pairing of Fatduka and Gowen was like watching two old men….no pace at all….it was horrible to watch.
Carroll did more in the 15 min. he was on then the two of them…..they both should go and we can rebuild get some hungry strikers in who can run the channels and get the midfield involved….its too predictable watching nufc play without OBA.
we are so short of pace…Fatduka holds up the ball well..but thats about it………ALL CHANGE

Gutierrez was poor yestderday, he looked extremely tired from the start and i think he needs to be rested. However, to say he is not good enough is ridiculous, he is the only winger we have in our team that knows when to pass and when to make a run. The reason fans on here are beginning to turn on him is because everyone looks to him to create as well as defend and he can’t do it every game, he i snot a robot. We need depth. 3 or 4 players extra at least

Some of you turn on players to quickly.

The only bad performances i really saw yesterday came from Butt constantly losing the ball.

Zog was played out of position but did well when he got foward, duff created problems and nearly scored twice…owen and viduka had awful service. They ended up looping high balls to owen……

The difference was wigan pressured our players, we didnt pressure theirs.

It seems such an obvious thing to do…but we didnt & so we never had much time on the ball.

Jonas did completely fine, he just never had any support around him of any use. He cannot go past 3 players covering all angles of runs.

Yesterday went badly because we lost shape with the injurys mainly.

Its not the end of the world. We still have a reasonably solid team.

FACTS ARE we nearly got a draw from 2-0 down with 10 men and both goals against us nonsense. Carroll also looked v good.

    So CHEEERRRRR UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!

Well, we lost and played poor. But that was yesterday, the lads now have all they want, a match agains a top 4 team 2 days later…what else would you like to put it right?

I would go with this team, but I think JFK will not field it:

    ———————–GIVEN————————-
    TAYLOR—BASSONG-COLOCCINI—ZOGGY
    ——-GEREMI——BUTT——GUTIEREZ—
    ———————-GUTHRIE———————
    ———OWEN——————–DUFF———–

Well undone by a great free kick, and a dubious penalty. The defense did hold and it is inevitable with the amount of pressure we were under that we are going to concede.

Wigan could not break us down despite all the pressure they had so they had to engineer some other means and that was the result Heskey Diving in the box.

We need Nzog in the Midfield, We need Oba back, and we need Butt out. His stray passes were costly.

KKForever we certainly do not need the Keegan debate to be resuscitated.

I don’t know if TOZER is a left fullback, but if he is, it would be worth a try to put him in?

I cant beleive how quickly some of us are turning on our own players, one week ago it was upwards and onwards to europe, but one defeat against a team with a fantastic home record and we are start losing it.

come on lets get behind the lads again and give the scousers a run for their money.

KK forever,i think it`s you that`s the Idiot here..
Your name first of all,KK`s reign is long over and he will never be manager again. He was a hero for us all 10 years ago but should not have come back but it`s the fans that made that happen and it`s the fans that are to answer for some of our lack of success……
2nd,Jonas Duff and owen have got us so many of the last 10 points between them, you think we are relegation food after 1loss.
Forever the optimist you are eh!!!!!!!!
    Bah Humbug to you

owen didnt want to know yday! If thats what were gona get from him until june he might as well f off now! Having a go at jonas is abit harsh considering he had no real options to help him out going forward! No pace in attack playing charlie left bk! What a mess! Butt was terrible, viduka too slow, duff wasnt at the races, Ive said enough about owen…i could go on! On a positive note i thought guthrie was outstanding in the 2nd half without much support at all!
