Edgar, Enrique and Taylor All Start For Newcastle

nufc-crest4liverpool-fc-crest

JOE Kinnear is forced to make three changes to the side which lost at Wigan on Boxing Day for the visit of league leaders Liverpool.

Habib Beye (leg), Mark Viduka (groin) and Sebastien Bassong (suspension) are all missing, as expected, but Jose Enrique is fit for the game, which is a nice surprise, with David Edgar and Steven Taylor coming into the side.

This is big game for David Edgar at right back, and much will depend on how the 21 year-old plays today, but in the past he’s done well when given the chance. Usually he has a shaky start so the lads will need to support David early in the game.

We’re a little surprised that Geremi didn’t get the start at right back, and it seems that the Cameroon international will move on next month.

That means a back four of Edgar, Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini and Enrique, so that’s a very young back four, and Charles N’Zogbia, Nicky Butt, Jonas Gutierrez and Danny Guthrie, playing against his former club, form a more than decent four-man midfield.

Duff will partner Michael Owen up front with Andy Carroll, Xisco and Ameobi all on the bench.

Newcastle captain Michael Owen will be making his first appearance against his former club at St. James’ Park.

On the bench, promising Hungarian center-back Tamas Kadar, an Under-21 international, is included for the first time while Shola Ameobi returns from a short hamstring lay-off, which is good news.

This is the game when Newcastle fans celebrate the magnificent career and life of our very own Sir Bobby Robson, and with Ashley saying he will keep the club, a win will make things very rosy in the Newcastle garden, come 2:00 pm this afternoon.

Howay The Lads!!

At least with Enrique starting Zog will hopefully start wide left instead of duff Duff.
Why not start with Andy Carroll alongside Owen instead of an out of position duff midfielder.
Owen prospers playing off a target man.
Beye and Bassong are going to be BIG misses and I fear too big on the day

Hope Butt actually remembers he’s playing for NEWCASTLE today.

He looked like an old man v Wigan, it was pathetic.

I would of liked to have seen Carrol instead of duff upfront with Owen , but at least Edgar is in ahead of Geremi . With Enrique back we at least can now let Nzogbia do what he is best at

We need to be really fierce today and up for every challenge or else we will be slaughtered I think. Beye and Bassong especially are a huge loss and we will miss them badly. We have to make noise and support the lads to the max as they desperately need our help today.

no keane, no alonso, no riera, no torres today for Liverpool. I cannot understand for the life of me why robbie keane is not starting. Rafa is mental!

Really glad to see enrique back, but i’d rather see carroll up front with owen after what i saw at Wigan. I’ve knocked him alot like, but he made himself trouble for wigan who are a strong side, putting himself about a bit..maybe hopefully get 20-30 minutes today.

Great that Jose and Shola are back…
Good idea to have Duff up there as we will need a 5man midfileld to stem the tide of L`pools Counter attacks.
They are the quickest Counter-Attacking team in the country I`d say
Nailbiting day again,1point bwould be a plus really

Hmm 5 in midfield i suppose it excusable with a weakened team against the leaders. Although duffs miss in the last minute was shokin.

Although i wouldnt mind this lad still at the club…skip to 1.15 mins.

I’m worried that Enrique’s been pushed back to play before his injury’s properly healed.

He could re-injure and be out for a long time and we don’t have any cover at left back.
