Joe Kinnear, not surprisingly, knows all about the famous FA Cup tradition at Newcastle.
Joe Kinnear knows all about Newcastle’s FA Cup tradition
Joe talked today:
“I know exactly what the FA Cup means to the people of Tyneside,”
In the days when we had a good team – back in the early 1950s with Milburn, Mitchell, Brennan, Robledo and Crowe, amongst others in the side, we won the FA Cup in 1951, 1952 and 1955 – 3 times in a short 5 years.
Joe talked about the FA Cup this afternoon:
“The FA Cup is still a very special competition to us, and after winning it as a player I know what it means.”
“I’ve also been to a semi-final as manager, and know what a good run in the cup can do to a club. It keeps everybody’s spirits high.”
Although Hull City are still 5 points ahead of us in the Premier League table, they are on a poor streak in the league over their last 10 games with just one win in that time, and we must stand a good chance of getting through on Saturday, if only we can play to our best form.
Kinnear continued:
“There aren’t too many all-Premier League ties, but this is one we’re up for.” “Not only that, but we want to start the new year with a result.”
“When the draw was made, you always want a home tie. We’ve got two Premier League defeats to get out of our systems, but there is no fear in the camp ahead of Hull.”
“December was a good month for us in terms of picking up points. We’ve had two defeats at Christmas, but we’ll continue to battle on.”
“There’s still an upbeat feeling in the camp. Whatever team that we put out, we’ll be giving it our very best shot to get through and get a result to make it into the fourth round.”
“And with our traveling support behind us we have every chance.”
A win is a necessity on Saturday, so we can start forgetting that game against Liverpool on Sunday.
Comments welcome.

Comment #105Villa are a one trick pony team. They just launch the ball down the wing and then its a race between Young, Agbonlahor or Milner and the opposition defender. So predictable and easy to defend against. I would like to see Villa break down a team properly and actually use some creativity and not just pace.

Comment #106After we scored past Villa and went to play on the counter attack we were comfortable and they were never a threat. There was no space for them to run in to and therefore no questions being asked. Overrated side.

yes, you can andy. you can buy Jonas Gutierrez for example. for a fraction of the cost that we sold milner to villa for, may i add, lol.

Comment #109Everton were on course to do the same last season, but does that reall ymake them a fantastic side. I am not saying they are a bad side. I think they are a good one. However, they have been massively hyped up by the media, yet when i watch them i see the same thing every week; Boot and run football. The way we approached Villa at SJP is the best way to do so. Get bodies in front of their fast wingers and they have nowhere to go and no plan B. Simple.

Yes exactly, but Jonas isn’t British so don’t expect the hype mate, lol.
Jonas does 90% of what Milner does, but better. He isn’t as much of a goal threat (not that Milner was much of one), but the Argentinian is superior in every other area.

Comment #114Would you be happy with these players, i’m not so sure we still need a defensive and a creative midfielder. Has anyone else any news on Spears i have scoured through the net and there’s very little what i have saw is that we loaned him back to Plymouth, then i saw that he had given up football then i seen something about him not liking the coaches up here and wanted to leave. Anyone any more news?

Ye it’s been a while but now that the transfer period is just around the corner I’ve came here with more news in the Turkish media, regarding NUFC of course.
Besiktas (who are horrible this year, lol) were offered Geremi “by agents”. Besiktas seemed interested as they need a midfielder and set-piece specialist (ok, I’m just taking the piss here! :p). Mustafa Denizli (Besiktas’ coach) was contacted today who replied “If they’re willing to sell him for a suitable price, he would be of use to us”.
However it was indicated that Newcastle United wanted 2.5m euros while Geremi himself demanded a contract of 3m Euros a year. The Besiktas board noted “If we pay this sort of cash for someone like Geremi we’ll be messing up the squad harmony.” and asked for this fee to be reduced.
Well that’s basically what’s on the news… I doubt it’ll go through as BJK might actually want someone younger. However, it might mean you guys are looking forward to offloading Geremi this January.
Cheers.

Comment #120villa should be 1-0 down anyway. friedel made a terrible error, dropped the ball and surprise surprise when it ended up in the net there was a foul on the goalkeeper. somebody explain to me how when jumping from a static position nick barmby can foul brad friedel, lol
