Reports Newcastle After Juventus Midfielder

One areas of the Newcastle side that Joe Kinnear must strengthen in January is central midfield.

christian-poulsen

Christian Poulsen – combative midfielder but wouldn’t come cheaply

We are very weak in that area with Joey Barton out with a medial ligament injury in his knee through March, and our loan signing Uruguayan International Ignacio Gonzalez, who is also out injured until Match with an Achilles injury.

We are linked today with multiple players including forward Michael Kightly of Wolves, midfielder Joe Ledley of Cardiff, striker Kevin Doyle of Reading, Ben Haim of Manchester City and Matthew Upson of West Ham.

Another report this morning has us linked with Juventus’ Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen, who is said to be interesting Newcastle United.

The Denmark international only moved to Juventus in the summer from Sevilla, and the combative central midfielder could be made available by the Italian giants.

The 28 year old 6’ midfielder has represented Denmark over 60 times, and was at Schalke 04 for 4 years from 2002 where he appeared 162 times for the German side, before moving to Sevilla in 2006 for a couple of years, where he appeared 49 times for the Spanish side.

In July of this year Juventus paid €9.75M (about £9.5M) for the Dane, and he’s  on a 4 year contract worth about €3M a year (about £58K/week).

So it would appear that if Newcastle are indeed interested in the player he would not come cheaply.

We have no idea if there is any truth to this report, but it seems he would be too expensive for us, at least in January.

He is a great player and would be a valuable addition to any premier league side, however he is a bit slow. Apparently he isn’t happy at Juve so the rumours could be true.

I don’t know. We need a quick box to box ACM. i always thought he was more defensive. Still a good player though. Would he consider us being a step down however. Juve are in the Champions League and at the right end of Serie A.

Is he slow? We already have too many slow players especially from the CM. that’s why none of them ever make it into the box when a cross comes in. If they could get someone quicket to play alongside him then our midfield would drastically improve.

He is a young 20 year old goalie he is good, but his kicking is awful, would still be a good signing though.

    Agree with dan

We need an attacking central midfielder…..

We have for a long long time, since we lost Jenas…& Emre turned crap and injured.

Only reason Barton does well for us is cause he can spray about a few through balls to the fowards. Butt/guthrie etc just shove it to the wings, they have no creativity. We need some.

We are also going to have to put some money aside for a new right back as it’s just come out that Beye is out for up to 2 months. We needed one anyway as cover but now it’s desperate.

I think he join us he has only played two games for them this season. He is very similar to Butt, but with more skill and he is quite creative. He isn’t amazing, but he will do a steady job.

What do you guys think about us possibly signing Miguel Veloso???

    he’d be an improvement 🙂

    keep watching cattermole’s challenge…

there should be a rule…if a player injures sbd. with a reckless challenge, he should be banned…for as much time as his victim wouldn’t be able to play…so:

    ban cattermole for 6 weeks!!!

that’s the only way to “achieve” fair play…

Clubs to look at for good and available players

    Tottenham
    M city
    W ham
    Portsmouth
    Wigan
    Everton
    Blackburn

and we need the following positions with the maximum money used to pay for them

    LB- 6mil
    RB – 4mil
    RM – 2mil
    LM – 6mil
    CM -5mil (Appiah is free?!)
    CB – 5mil
    CF(loan perhaps?) – 2mil

then we can sell Nzogbia, Geremi and Smith for decent money to help fund it.

I dont rate our chances with Veloso. Everton had a 15 mil bid rejected in the summer and there is no way we will pay more than that.

This could be a tricky one with Poulsen

    Buffon-Man City
    Given-Juventus
    Poulsen-Newcastle

But when it comes down to Arsenal,i don’t think we should let him go for less than 10 mill or make a swap…..Ramsey+4 mill for Given.
    Sounds fair doesn’t it?

Appiah has been free for about 3 or 4 months now and not 1 premiership team has snapped him up. Apparently his wage demands are so high that no one is interested. I think west ham took a look at him but were put of by what he was asking for.

I can remember mate and weren’t we all left disappointed. I must admit i am a little worried that our best players are being linked with a move else where and the players we are linked with are CC players. Seems to me JFK may be looking for quantity rather than quality when in reality we need both. Sunderland went with the quantity and have one of the biggest squads in the EPL and they are below us so a mixture of both is needed at NUFC by keeping a hold of our best players if we can exception to Given as i feel sorry for the bloke but keeping the likes of N’Zogbia is a must.

Hi, I think Christian Poulsen would be an amazing signing for NUFC. He plays with his heart and gives everything in every game! We should also think about buying Mathias Jorgensen from FC Copenhagen – he´s 18 and up coming star for the future.

I am not getting involved in transfer speculation I have learned my lessons after the last 3..it hurt.

Any players we can attract is a bonus whatever division or league they play in personally I don’t expect big names we already have those and look where we find ourselves…shift out Duke,Shola,Smith,Butt,Duff for starters.

I agree it’s always risky opting from the championship especially if you are going to fill out your squad with them. I think Kightly is a good player but it’s almost certain that he will be in the premiership next year anyway so why whould he leave. As for Doyle he couldn’t score for reading last season and they went down and we are’nt that desperate for a striker. I think if we do begin selling our better players and replace them with lesser ones then we will be seeing something that hasn’t happened since the time we started selling Gascoigne, Waddle and Beardsley. We payed the price that time for it and i fear that it may happen

Given the current predicament we are in playing youngsters is a little risky. Staying in the EPL is our first priority. We must give the likes of Ranger,Lua Lua,Carrol,Kadar a chance in cup competitions. Personally i would give Lua Lua a chance agains’t Hull and maybe bring on Ranger for the last 20 minutes of so if we are winning.
