Newcastle’s Joey Barton Back In Two Weeks?

The Daily Mirror is reporting this morning that Joey Barton is ready to give Newcastle United a massive lift, by declaring himself fit in the next couple of weeks.

Joey Barton – fit within two weeks?

It appears that Barton is due to see a specialist about his medial knee ligament injury today, and hopes to get the all clear to resume training by the end of the week.

Unfortunately we have to point out that the Mirror says that Joey’s had a broken leg, so that doesn’t really give us a lot of confidence in this story by reporter Alan Nixon.    😀

But the return of Barton would be great news for Newcastle, because it will help lift the burden on Guthrie and Butt in Newcastle’s central midfield, as the two of them have been the only two fit central midfielders for some time now.

We saw what happened at Stoke, when one of them gets injured.

We have no idea if this story is true, but it may prompt Joe Kinnear to address Joey’s injury situation today, so we’ll get an accurate update from Joe.

The last we heard about it from Joe the the knee was not healing well, and he even mentioned March as a possible return date at that time, but things may have improved since then.

On Physioroom.com , the expected return to training date for Joey is 17th January, and even that’s not too far away.

Let’s hope there’s some truth in this report.

Guthrie has done well enough and should keep his place regardless of whether Joey returns or not. Ideally he would replace Butt, but i can’t see JK dropping Butt for either Barton or Geremi unless he is forced to.

This is great news! he’s our most creative mid by far! drop butt he needs a rest he’s knackered & play Guthrie & Barton in the middle. We still need another CM tho to add depth coz you never know when Joey could get knackt again or suspended again. Really hope we sign Kightly & Ledley too as this will give us more legs in midfield which we are sorely missing. Doubt we’ll get Bellars back as WHam are on glue & knockt back £12m for him! we should try & also bring in Appiah on a free & Henrik Larsson on a free, i know he’s old but still quality & lets face it Viduka is never fit! these two in till end of season to help out.

I agree wigaz, if we could get Henrik in on loan for the rest of the season this could help. He proved only last season he’s got the quality to play in the epl at the highest standard – but I think M.O’N wants him at villa, and being his previous boss at celtic could play a factor…
How do you guys rate Gareth Bale compared with Baines? If spurs were going to offer him in the package for Given then maybe a cheeky bid for him on his own??

Toon Rich with you on that boss. Bale is good attacking & Baines is prob better defending however comparing the two overall Bale is better as he has a better engine & the kid is top class from dead ball. I think if MON really wanted henrik he would have him by now mate? I’m not gettin my hopes up for this window as they have been dashed too many times under this regime. But if we come out in jan with:
    Kightly/Ledley/Bale/Bullard/Larsson/Appiah
Then i’ll be happy. What about a cheeky move for crespo? he’s wanting away they say.

I’m no big fan of Joey as a person, but I’ll be glad to see him back, and I’m really hoping he proves me wrong and becomes a model pro. Funnily enough I think he had a point when he was talking about being a role model to ‘off-the-rails’ kids.

I also think he’s got more of what we need right now, which is the instinct to just blast forward every time he gets the ball. Guthrie’s very good, but I think Joey’s whole mental instability thing can be put to good use.

BUT at the end of the day, I think the difference between a top-4 club and others is that they all have a key man, often head and shoulders above all the others, in the hole there to create moves. The Gerrard, in other words.

I think we need to start looking for our Gerrard – probably an acquisition for the summer which will cost more than the others put together.

If Spurs even only offered us a straigh swap Given for Bale, we’d be idiots not to do the deal.

    Bale is future world-class.

…but Given is current world class, and probably the player who will do more than anyone to keep us in the Prem this year.

Ashley won’t sell him, and Given would refuse to go. End of.

We should bid or bale anyway. If harry is willing to offer him as part of a deal then he must be out of favour. I Really hope we buy in this window this is the most important window i think there’s been in a while for us. If we dont we’ll go down if we do we could end up in euro spot. Seriously MA you know what to do.

guthrie and barton is a midfield must for us when both are fit. butt is losing his legs, simple as that. i cant understand why we’d play a weakness along side a strength in the center when we have a strength sitting on the bench.

    Bale is Average at best

Tottenham havent won a single game with Bale in their side since he joined

Great statistics for a “future world class” player.

Him for Given ? Some of you are nuts.

I hope this true about Barton, we need him back ASAP! Him and Guhtrie for me. Butt has ran out of steam in the last 2 games. Might be a good shout about making him captain in the future, but not at the moment. He should just concentrate on playing football regularly without getting into trouble.

Hopefully Guthrie will retain his place alongside Barton, I know for a fact though that he will be the one that makes way. Although this sounds harsh I hope Butt’s injury keeps him out of a couple more games if Barton is due back, that way Guthrie will be given the opportunitie to show Kinnear what he can do alongside Barton.

p.s. Bale would be an exelent buy and would sort out our set piece problems.

it really doesn’t matter who we think will come to the Toon, cos Dennis Wise is going to do what Mike Ashley wants and thats bring in the cheapest players available. Kinnear may tell you different but Keegan wont, Big Sam wont and every free thinking Toon fan wont. Until we get rid of Mike Ashley the transfer market will mean nothing except cheap players In and our best players Out. Mike Ashley, Dennis Wise and the new Ashley puppet known as Joe Kinnear need to go. Now that really would be a Happy New Year.

yeah im his sparring partner – haha – no t really – but i seriously know the crack. alan smith is supposed to be back at the same time as joey too – not sure how much of a boost that is but i suppose if its another fit player it has to be a bonus.
