Shay Given Loves Life At Newcastle – Kinnear

There was lots of speculation in the press yesterday that Shay Given may be leaving Newcastle, after a reported £8M bid by Arsenal.

joe-kinnear-new1

Joe Kinnear – Shay is happy at Newcastle

But Joe Kinnear has come out today and said Given remains happy at a club he’s been at at for over eleven years, and he’s given more than great service to the Magpies, as their best goalkeeper ever, and also one of their best players ever.

Joe said today:

“There is no problem there. He’s very happy here, he’s very comfortable at Newcastle United,”

“He won’t be leaving – he has no interest in that whatsoever. He loves the football club – he’s part of the city and that suits us because he’s a world-class goalkeeper.”

The new speculation surrounding Shay, came after the goalkeeper put in a world class performance  (that’s the only way to describe it) against Liverpool, where he was just astonishing in keeping Liverpool at bay for the first 30 minutes, and he wasn’t too bad after that either.

But we knew that Shay is settled with his family in Newcastle, and we would expect him to remain in the area after he has retired, much like other stars like Bobby Moncur and Supermac have done – they are part of Newcastle.

But Kinnear and Newcastle’s fans know all about just how good Shay is, and after a couple of seasons with injury problems he has come back this season, dare we say it, better than ever, and Joe knows exactly just how good Given is, as he continued:

“Shay’s performance against Liverpool was brilliant and that got picked up on but ask the Geordie fans and I think they already knew how good he is.”

“They know their football so to be one of their favorites says it all about how good he is,” .

“He’s the best goalkeeper in the Premier League by a mile.”

The problem Newcastle fans have right now is the case of James Milner, where it now looks like if a decent bid came in for any player, the Newcastle board would take it, if it was a good enough deal.  Keegan even said after Milner left that any player has their price, which was unlike him, but it was probably something he had been told by the Newcastle Board.

Newcastle got £12M for Milner, and now he’s playing his football elsewhere, and that’s what we used to do in the old days. We were a selling club and we sold Paul Gascoigne very early as another example, to Spurs when he was just 21, in 1988.

But maybe that’s not the case now, as Joe Kinnear seems to be in charge of all player personnel at the club, which is how it should be, and how it should have been with Kevin Keegan too.

Maybe Ashley has learned his lesson, but we lost Kevin Keegan in the process.

But it’s good to hear Joe Kinnear say that our very best players are going nowhere – that’s good news.

As we have found out in the past we have to be very wary of this newspaper talk – because they’ll just make more and more of it up, unless somebody in authority speaks up, like Kinnear, and even that will not stop some of them.

Now that we know Given is going nowhere when we start going through our team, we have the best goalkeeper in the land – now if we could only make that true with the rest of the team – then we’d really be in business.   😀

With MA, anything can happen. The sale of Milner springs to mind.

Don’t trust anything you read until the window is closed.

Only Newcastle could be so stupid that their idea of a Given replacement is ”flying potato” Paddy Kenny for 5M? !!!

If Given went and 5M was spent on Kenny, I would be absolutely livid. You couldn’t be more short sighted !!

If Shay does go, we need to look at maximising the positives:-

    1) 8 – 10M for a 33 year old (with 10M Bale aged 19 possibly thrown in.)

    2) More than adequate replacements in KRUL & Harper, even Forster, who are good on crosses, distribution and communication.

If it has to be, it has to be and it may suit everyone all round even if it doesn’t seem that way right now.

But please with KRUL & Harper, don’t waste 5M on Kenny !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Given is legend enough said .

I think newcastle needs to go for Abo Treka … He’s the best egyptian player at the moment ,, i remember him winning the midfield battle againt yaya toure when egypt played ivory coast . he has a great passing with powerful strikes from outside the penalty area and enough flair

Hmmm see, im indifferent, though he is one of the best keepers in Europe, and his loyalty should be admired, if we got something like 10m for him, 10m for a 33 yr old when we have an outstanding replacement in harper and, for what it seems, fantastic prospects coming through, I think I would have to probably take it!

Willie Mackay has been on Sky Sports this morning saying we won’t be selling Given and will be bringin in 5 new players including a big midfielder, lb and rb.

Proof of the pudding and all that.

Ashleys track record isn’t great in the transfer market so we’ll see

If we get 8 – 10M for Given it represents excellent business and should not hurt us too much as we have Harper, Krull and Forster all waiting in the wings.

Bale from Spurs is a good young player but isn’t he injury prone?

To be honest and fair, every player has his price! The horrendus amount we got for milner speaks for itself…what do you do if someone comes and bid that much for a rather ordinary player (I watched him now for several games and apart from a very very lucky goal he hardly wasn’t recognised on the field!).

Back to our squad: If Man City come with stupid money I would let any of our players go – sure only if we get new younger ones in. But let’s face it, we have too many overpaid old players in the squad! And some youngsters who year after year try to do their best, but simple aren’t good enough (zoggy for example) and that is also the reason why we are where we are…

If we are offered 8million+ for Given then we should sell. He has given us a lot of years and it is only fair that he should now go to a bigger club. Anyway, we have more than enough cover for him here. We don’t need the likes of Fatty Kenny, Harper will step up and Krul will be our second keeper, simple.

Can’t believe people still moaning about the Milner sale. Listen, If you are offered 12million for a player and you know that he isn’t worth anwhere near that amount then you would accept too. He is crap and Villa fans know this. Visit their blogs and you will see what i mean.

WELL DONE MIKE ASHLEY FOR SELLING JAMES MILNER.

This is the only way for newcastle. We cannot mess with big four or man city spendings and we shouldn’t even! We have to buy more youngsters (Sissoko, Sakho, etc.) and try to realease some of our older players over the next year (viduka, butt, etc.). This is the only true way!

if buffon is worth 30m and petr cech 12.5m. Given is worth atleast 15m. The only way he is leaving the club is someone offering more than 15m and harper is stepping up to replace him with krul and foster as the understudy. We dont need another keeper.

    Glad we sold MILNER,
He aint playing so hot at Villa.
Has been very lucky with some goals.
He also has a good team around him and tall strikers to aim at which should suit him as he always overhit the ball at St James

Check through our in’s and out’s. Since MA’s arrival we have spent slightly more than we have recieved. We are acting sustainably in the transfer market.

    Neozero

Buffon is worth that much because it will be harder to get a TOP CLUB like Juventus to sell their keeper. Here is another example for you; C.Ronaldo is worth a fortune at Man U, but how much would Real pay if he were at Villa…20-25million max. Transfer dealings are done in context my friend.

Must be the school holidays given the amount of crap over shay.
We’re far from safe and yet today’s bloggers would have us sell one of our top players for the sake of a mere £10m. Get a grip people – he’s got to be worth twice that!

we have spend around 3 mill
though i like his method to take forward, but i think he needs to invest a bit more on the current team… so that our youngsters can ease their way int the team…..
we cant give them chance if we are always in drop zone…

Good point and i agree with you to an extent. MA does need to invest more in the current squad, this is clear in our lack of depth. Whether this costs 1.5million or 15million does not matter, as long as the players prove to be good buys the price is irrelevant.

I agree Given deserve to play for a better team, however I think he is gonna end his career with us. And I`m not complaining

Spyro – I just hope we finally get to spend the £12 million! As for Milner, he may not have been a winger in the traditional sense of pinging crosses into the box, but he did have his good qualities and for me was a useful player even if he will never be world class. I was kind of hoping the rumours about Given were true as well as its not often we get the chance to cash in on our players these days, and Harper is more than an adequate replacement.

I think we owe it to Shay to let him go. He has served us well and he’s too good for us. He has earned the chance to win the medals that his quality merits. And we need the money. And we are well served for keepers – we don’t need Kaddy Penny or whatever his name is. Can’t even find the training ground apparently.

Letting one of the best players in our history go for little more than the cost of Xisco would be a disgrace.

People mention his age but forget he is a keeper. He still has 6-7 years left at the top level and will be at his peak for a few more years yet.

We were a force in the PL once upon a time in the Robson days, if we were run properly, NUFC could be like that again.

Selling Shay is a step backwards, not forwards
