Given One of Best Players Ever For Newcastle

Shay Given left the pitch very quickly following the 5-1 hammering by Liverpool, as he was obviously frustrated with the performance of the team over the last couple of games.

Shay Given – one of best players ever at Newcastle

A source close to Given told the Chronicle:

“Shay’s as committed to the football club as he has ever been.” “He’s always given his all for Newcastle United, and that will never change.”

“The fans have been fantastic to Shay over the years, and their support means a lot to him.” “The fans were brilliant against Wigan and Liverpool, as they always are.”

“Against Liverpool, he was frustrated at how things had gone on the pitch, and that’s why he left the field so quickly. No goalkeeper wants to pick the ball out of his net five times, especially at home.”

“Shay’s known good times and bad at St James’ Park, and he and the rest of the team are desperate for the club to turn the corner.”

“He’s unhappy with how things have gone on the pitch in the last two games, but to say he’s unhappy at Newcastle is 100 % wrong.”

Shay is absolutely desperate to get some success at Newcastle, as time is pushing on, and he’s not getting any younger, although we expect Shay to be in the Newcastle goal for years to come, and he actually seems to be getting even better with age.

Of course Shay could play for much better teams, that actually win games and trophies, like Arsenal as one example, and if he was in the Arsenal goal, they would surely do a lot better.

But Given is completely committed to Newcastle United, and we shouldn’t forget what a wonderful servant he’s been to the club – one of the best ever, that’s for sure.

It’s good to have some of our best players who don’t want to go anywhere else but stay on Tyneside – and he’s a good example to others in the side.

Comments welcome.

    Don’t speak too soon Ed.

Heard that Man City have tabled an offer for marvelous Shay, and could be something we cannot refuse.

Don’t want him to go anywhere, but look for Given, Bridge and Santa Cruz to be at Man City by the end of the window.

Will always go down as one of the best Newcastle players and personalities.

a lot will disagree with that price tag

    but i wont

coz if shay wantts to stay that means we have to get top money for him

though honestley i would nnot wanna sell him(and this is where i get shouted at)for 30 mil

not coz we should get more

or because it wouldnt be best for the club

but because i couldnt bare the thought of letting him go

besides shay can keep us in this league which would at minimum cost 60 mil

Whilst I agree Shay is world class – a 15 million bod should be snapped up – after all we have Harps and Krul

I also hope that ExEMO goes in January and we at least get some money for him – its time for him to either sign or go – no hanging around waiting to walk for free. If he does I can see him picknig up anther injury and then no one wanting him !!!! Now that would be a shame for hte money grabber

i think our team should be:

Good realistic young team with barton as captain, that would be auwesome, and we would have the right balance in the team from all angles. the only unrealistic player is montolivo, but who knows.

So we sell Shay and Ashley pockets the money?

Or he pockets the money and heads off to the casino, no thanks.

Funny how we all go on about Shay being loyal to NUFC, how about being loyal to him?

If we are offered 10M for Shay he’ll be sold as we have harper, Krull and Forster waiting in teh wings.

MA must use any cash received to bring in quality central midfield players and young back fullbacks plus a central defender……

I prefer he doesn’t leave but may have to be sacrificed for the sake of the club!

what would be the point of selling give just so we can bring in some players but if given goes i would not blame him he has been loyal to us so if he does go good luck to him but selling him will be a big loss as what is the point of selling hour best players we are meant to be building a good team not selling them so as ashley is not selling which in my eyes he never was it is time for him to get is money out of hes pockets and start spending if he loves this club as much as he says he does then by the end of jan we will find out keep given and charlie sell butt duff geremie owen and lets start to build a proper team. and if all these rumors are true about all the good players wanting to leave can you blime them with all the crap theve had to put up with lets just hope we can have some luck

In normal circumstances, I’d think we should consider offers for Shay as we are so hopelessly thin in other areas and bearing in mind the good youngsters, Krul and Forster as well as Harps. It makes business sense.

But we’ve not seen the 20 million a year investment we were promised. We’ve not seen half of the 12 million we got for Milner. We’ve had a spiteful ‘not another penny’ threatened by the owner and no sign of the 3-year season-ticket money, TV money or advertising revenue. So if Shay were to be sold to rebuild the side, I don’t have confidence we’d get the money to reinvest. It’d just be asset-stripping by a bloke who’s failed to attract any buyers for a club he doesn’t want. This from a dangerous effer who is liable to blow 5 million for himself on a night at the tables just as easily as a flash thousand on winning over the revellers in Blu Bamboo.

Most of you would sell him? What knobs you are. You really want to sell our best player and indeed the best keeper in the world?! That would be like shooting ourselves in the foot. Given doesn’t want to leave and Kinnear doesn’t want to sell, Pretty simple solution there. He’s such a great player and a great guy, never wanting to leave even though he’s the best in the league, a true legend you are sir Shay 🙂

In what way has Ashley shown that he would reinvest any money he gets back into the side ????

No point losing our best players to fill the pockets of the owner. Good proven players are worth more than money sometimes.

those that suggest selling given ……..the best keeper in the premiership are STUPID, ye’ll be the ones on here in a few months when were just off the relegation zone saying ‘why did we sell given, ashley this and ashley that’….this window is not a time for selling any players unless they are in a swap deal for a better player…….we need to make our squad bigger not smaller!!

p.s. cacapa can leave tomorrow if he wants to, he’s unfortunatly past it!!

    NUFC`s greatest asset.
A loyal player who loves the club and the area.
and gives his all to both.
The fans, disloyal (sell him) ignorant(dont realise how often he has saved this club throughout the seasons) technically ignorant(he hoofs it up the field)
I could go on but if you think its an exageration on my part just read some of the above statements.
Have come to the conclusion this blog has become the property of ignoramuses and whiners.
Shea Given deserves the same loyalty by the fans that he has given them by being such a loyal servant to the club and therefore the fans also.
This is not the first attempt by other clubs to buy him and to his credit he has always stated his loyalty to both the club and area.
And to those who advocate selling him, do you really think we have anyone at this club who could come close to replacing him, if so then it`s obvious there are a number of delusional so called fans out there.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward – words of KK on the selling of Andy Cole.
If we get an offer in excess of 10 million for shay we needto cash in. Yes he is a great player (possibly the best) but one player cannot get us results – MoM agaist LIverpool yet we lost 5-1. 10 million for a player his age is good business and it also allows us to see if Ashley is willing to invest or just asset strip.

GRAEME R. Look Shea Given is probably the premier goalkeeper in the PL.
In which case there are and have been clubs willing to pay big bucks for him.
And if we do sell him , who out there could we buy that would replace his presence on this team, not talking goaltenders here I mean could we get someone who would be as important to this team as Shea is, the answer is No!
As far as our backup goalies, decent but nowhere close the goalie Shea is.
As far as the analogy with Cole, apples & bananas, if we are to go forward we need first and foremost a decent goalie.
Given @ present is in his prime, why if you want this team to improve would you sell such an asset, sell anyone but him you moron.

Agreed, Shay Given has no value. Whatever money you make on him even twice the amount of that will not buy you a better keeper. Sorry it’s the truth and there is no one on here who can name a keeper other than Buffon that can name someone better. All keepers who play for the top 4 sides are regarded as having the best keepers however hey dont have to deal with the crap that given does every game. they have 2 make a couple of saves every match whereas we are always calling on Given at least every 10 mins. As much as i rate Steve Harper as an excellent understudy he doesn’t deserve to even tie Givens Shoe laces. Given could chosse alost any club he likes to play for yet for 12 years has stuck with us out of loyalty and people should be ashamed to quickly put a simple price tag on him.

Chuck – I accept the at Shay is the best – however the result against Liverpool clearly shows that deficiencies in other departments negates any of the great work shay does week in week out – offers in excess of 15 million should be taken ONLY if the money is used to strengthen the team and not deepen Ashleys pockets. After all Shay is almost 32 and possibly his best years behind him – it was not too long ago when people were doubting him after his injury!!

    Given’s lawyer, Michael Kennedy, said:

“When he (Given)signed a new five-year contract in 2006 it was on the basis that the club would challenge for major honours, but on the present evidence all that he can see ahead with the turmoil on and off the pitch is a battle for survival. ”

Ah well, if this is true the club is defo goin to the dogs…. cheers Ashley!

As great as Shay is (one of the world’s best), he must be frustrated with the team’s play this year. Here in the states it was reported that his agent has requested he be given the chance to leave. Can’t say as I blame him much. He’s been a faithful servant to the club for more years than we have had a right to expect. It may be time for him to find greener pastures elsewhere, and who can disagree. It may be he gets to a club on the “up” just like Friedel has done with his move from Blackburn to Villa. If so, good luck to him.

This is a black day in Toon.

Who worth his salt will come to this place where as loyal a servant as Given says ‘get me outta here!’ That says more than any club statement, managerial platitude or media analyst about the state of where we are at.

A couple of Championship players and maybe a loan signing is probably the best we can expect this window from Ashley, the man with a football club nobody wants. What a bloody disgrace.

The Gallowgate is where we used to publicly string up miscreants and evil-doers and it could happen again…..
