Papa Bouba Diop And Samba Both Linked With Newcastle

The Daily Mail today has a report saying that Newcastle United may be interested in Portsmouth’s 6’4″ Senegal midfielder Papa Bouba Diop.

Papa Bouba Diop – 6’4″ Senegal commanding midfielder

We were linked last year with the midfielder and he’s certainly a presence on the field with his commanding play and he is in the mold of Patrick Vierra, which is the type of midfielder Joe Kinnear would like to bring to the club.

However, the fee mentioned of £5M is a bit high, and we think around £3M would be a good buy for this player, who would add some steel and creativity to the Magpies midfield.

The other player mentioned in the Mail is center-back Christopher Samba of Blackburn, and we’ve also been linked earlier this season with this player, but we hardly expect Sam Allardyce to part with any of his players, especially those that have the experience of Samba.

Samba scored a header against us that had Joe Kinnear holding his head in his hands in the St. James’ Park stands, earlier this season, as Steven Taylor should have had him covered. And one hint that Joe gave was that one of the players he would like to bring to St. James’ Park has already scored against us this season – so obviously it’s Samba. 😀

Big Daddy Christopher Samba – with one of his children

The 6’5″ Congo international has played well for Blackburn since joining them in 2007 from Hertha Berlin for £400K, another great bargain signing by Mark Hughes.  Christoper’s played over 60 times for Blackburn and is a proven Premier League player, who would certainly improve our squad.

In fact both players are over 6’4″ so they would improve the size of our squad, and the heading ability, which looked poor against Liverpool last Sunday.

We have no idea if these reports are true, but since we have been linked with both players in the past, it would not be a big surprise if the Tyneside club has these two down on their transfer list of candidates.

In fact we also wouldn’t mind it at all, if both players found their way to St. James’ Park, either this month or in the summer.

Let us know what you think.

good if it was true because we could do with some steel in the middle.

They sound like they’d be good buys, would certainly improve the squad. However we do need to add a full-back or two, and hopefully a creative midfielder, as I don’t really know how good Diop is in the creativity department.

And just wondering, how old are both of these two?

I’d take both and I agree with you Ed, Diop is almost 31 and £5mil for him would be ripping us off, especially if we are thiking of selling Gerem for £2mil, who IMO shouldn’t be sold at all, great squad player and good for the youngsters.

I don’t think Portsmouth will sell after losing Diarra from their midfield, shame Faye fell out with Keegan because he was just as good as Diop in midfield.

Would only take Samba but I wouldn’t want him to start over Colo and Basoon 🙂 Personally I would like to see us sign Appiah on a pay as you play deal with an option of an additional year.Yes I know of his injury problems but that means he would settle well at Newcastle.Maybe we could form a team to comete in the national physiotherapy championships. It would end the long wait for a trophy!

The thing is Papa diop is thirty this month way to old in my opinion even though i am 30 myself. So i would forget about him. Samba is in his mid twenties 24 i think so he’s at the right age but in all honesty he is no better then what we already have. I suppose quantity is what we need at the moment so mustn’t grumble.

Looks like Bridge is off to City. Shame really because we have been linked with him for the past 3-4 years and always wanted it to come off.

although i think Ball is a solid reliable left back we could get on the cheap. Hes nothing special but certainly wouldnt worry about him like i do Enrique.

    This is very doubtful

Lol, it would be nice though. I would take Diop for 5 mil any day.

However, another Pompey player has caught my attention: Defoe

He’s been reported in saying that he wants out and i think signing him would give us the ability to sell Owen for a good young player.

These are the players i want in this JAN:

    Defoe (anything under 15 mil)
    Sissoko(8-10mil)
    Manuel Fernandes (10 mil)
and Leighton Baines for 3 mil

And i know its a bit expensive. Maybe we can somehow figure out a player swap deal.

    Players out:

    Smith (3mil)
    Owen (5-6 mil)
    Cacapa (2-3 mil)
    Geremi (3 mil)

The only player from the championship I would have is that Naughton guy.Thats because the only way we will get decent cover is a young prospect. No experienced player worth his salt is going to want to be behind Beye and who could we get that is better than Beye?Don’t rate Doyle or Ledley.I don’t think we even need a striker I would like to see Xisco givin a fair crak of the whip.We need a creative mid more than anything IMO.

Ledley is a pretty good player. Hes young and he seems to be up for a fight, but is able to play abit of football as well.

Id take him but is abit of a risk as i think he will cost around 6-7 million.

Robby Bobson – Ball is 100x worse than Enrique.

    Toon1978 – Diop was born 28/01/1978

Therefore he’ll be 31 this month.

yeah but he will be 31 this month lol 🙂

Naughton would be a decent signing to back up Beye and would strengthen our squad.

I would also like to see possibly see Diop coming in or someone that is a good DM who can actually provide decent cover for the back four which we have been lacking over the course of this season. If we are looking for a LB as well, we must look at Leighton Baines. Probably on the same level as Enrique, possibly better and he isn’t getting to many games so he could be another possibility. Other then a LB, RB and a CM i think we have to look at RM. Jonas, for me, isn’t doing well enough down the right and he looked immense against Man Utd on the left.

So for me the perfect January transfers without going overboard

    LB- Baines (£3-4m)
    RB Naughton (£1.5m-2m)
    CM- Diop (£5m)
RM- Kightly (Don’t know how much 🙂 )

i would like to see bellamy back on tyneside, he has seemed to calm down the last few years and has been on great for the hammers lately.
imagine him and martins up front, the fastest foward partnership in the world and it would be even quicker if we swapped lazy owen for suazo 🙂

bramble’s scored againest us this season, why cudnt it be him??? hahaha

i think jk was talkin bout ireland tho, although that seems really unrealistic now, i would personaly go for mabye a mahammadou diarra loan from real with them having just signed lassana diarra i think that he may become available and u cant deny his class jus a few gud players that have reputations none of these wonder egyptian kids that no ones ever heard of, go for big players that wil give the place a lift, juventus for example have tiago who we were linked with and poulsen, who im sure they wouldnt mind letting leave on loan, and there are great players in our own county that i would be interested in,
here are a few players i think we should consider, not saying sign them all thats un realistic but at least think about them

diarra loan – just wht we need in the cm

ryan taylor – seems to show class, and takes a decent free kick

paulo ferriera – not had a start yet, always seems a gud sterdy performer, boswingwa and beletti ahead of him

mark noble i would love him and with west ham listening to all offers or

scott parker, i would welcome him back and cm is an area i think we need strenthening the most

    etherington for his versitality

neill – excuse my west ham players but i think we could poach a few class acts from there, decent rb but wages are far too high

bullard – great player, and been told he can leave, sure he’d love the toon

there my players i personally would luv to see bullard, noble ferrira and diarra, but hey its not up to me

richie – Decent, but too slow to play on the wing and not that great in the centre, way overpriced at £6mil.

Shearer4PM – Diarra is out for the season, that is why Real Madrid bought Lass Diarra in the first place.
