The only player that will be back for us at Hull City on Saturday is one of our star men this season, young Frenchman Sebastien Bassong.
Seb Bassong – terrific signing by Newcastle
The lad was sorely missed against Liverpool and we can only wonder how much better we would have done if Bassong was in the center of Newcastle’s defense last Sunday.
But Coloccini and Taylor both had off games and we were completely taken to the cleaners. Not a good way to end what was a terrible year for the club.
The 22-year-old, from FC Metz, has taken his opportunities at Newcastle with both feet, and if he keeps up his terrific form, it’s hard to see how he will lose his place in central defense. Certainly it appears that Coloccini badly missed the presence of Bassong and the two of them could form a very solid central defensive partnership for Newcastle.
Bassong was just a terrific signing in the summer, and it’s amazing he came for a week’s trial so that Kevin could make sure he was up to par, but the lad has just turned in some great performances for the team this season. We have to hope we can get more of these signings this month and during the summer.
Joe Kinnear is also very well aware at just how good Seb bassoon can become as he continues to learn his trade in the Premier league, and Joe said today:
“We missed Seb against Liverpool, especially from set-pieces because he’s been our strongest player in the air in recent weeks,”
“In fact, before the Wigan sending off he was outstanding for the previous six or seven matches.”
“It’s a major boost to have him back for Hull because we are light on numbers at the back.”
We need Seb to come in against Hull City and put in anopther very soliud performance, and that should solidify our defense, and if we can play well at the bacl we have a chance of winning the game.
On the other hand, if we put in another sloppy performance as we did against Liverpool, things could be dire come 5:00 pm on Saturday.
Howay The Lads!!
