Seb Bassong Sorely Missed Against Liverpool

The only player that will be back for us at Hull City on Saturday is one of our star men this season, young Frenchman Sebastien Bassong.

Seb Bassong – terrific signing by Newcastle
The lad was sorely missed against Liverpool and we can only wonder how much better we would have done if Bassong was in the center of Newcastle’s defense last Sunday.

But Coloccini and Taylor both had off games and we were completely taken to the cleaners. Not a good way to end what was a terrible year for the club.

The 22-year-old, from FC Metz, has taken his opportunities at Newcastle with both feet, and if he keeps up his terrific form, it’s hard to see how he will lose his place in central defense. Certainly it appears that Coloccini badly missed the presence of Bassong and the two of them could form a very solid central defensive partnership for Newcastle.

Bassong was just a terrific signing in the summer, and it’s amazing he came for a week’s trial so that Kevin could make sure he was up to par, but the lad has just turned in some great performances for the team this season. We have to hope we can get more of these signings this month and during the summer.

Joe Kinnear is also very well aware at just how good Seb bassoon can become as he continues to learn his trade in the Premier league, and Joe said today:

“We missed Seb against Liverpool, especially from set-pieces because he’s been our strongest player in the air in recent weeks,”

“In fact, before the Wigan sending off he was outstanding for the previous six or seven matches.”

“It’s a major boost to have him back for Hull because we are light on numbers at the back.”

We need Seb to come in against Hull City and put in anopther very soliud performance, and that should solidify our defense, and if we can play well at the bacl we have a chance of winning the game.

On the other hand, if we put in another sloppy performance as we did against Liverpool, things could be dire come 5:00 pm on Saturday.

Howay The Lads!!

Yes, Bassong was sorely missed, he couldn’t help Colo out like he normally does. Some people will still disagree with me about Colo but he is not as good as his price tag would have suggested.

He has a serious problem with corners and his inability to get up and challenge Hyypia is not a single isolated situation. I would say that Colo could do nothing about Gerrard’s 2nd, Ger. was superb.

Hopefully Kinnear’s challenge to Colo will give him a serious boost.

Desperately need him back. Partnership between him and Colo is the best we have.

IMO Coloccini is worth his price tag as his price tags means he starts every game, therefore keeping liability Taylor out of the team and stops us conceeding more goals.

i think our team should be:
    ————————given——————————
    Naughton——colocini——bassong———–Bale
    Kightley—————-Barton——————Jonas
    ————————Montolivo———————–
    ——————Oba————-Suarez—————-

Good realistic young team with barton as captain, that would be auwesome, and we would have the right balance in the team from all angles. the only unrealistic player is montolivo, but who knows.

He was our best buy of summer. With Bassong and Colo back at the centre we won’t suffer like we did against the ‘pool.

Sorry this is off topic but i have been scouring through the internet like a man possessed looking for NUFC transfer rumours. Unfortunately all i was able to get was who may be leaving and very very little on who may be arriving. I know this might sound crazy but at least with Freddie Shepard you were almost guaranteed a decent signing or two. The way the club is at the moment is utter crap. NOTHING comes out but negative vibes about CC players and having no money to buy Premiership standard players. I hope Ashley is playing the press for fools and has a few surprises up his sleeve for us loyal Geordie supporters.

iv seen ledley a fair few times, he is a very neat little player, can play left back if needed but is best as a box-box midfielder

Bassong has been great. Colo and he have a good partnership. Most good central defenders have a good partner. Vidic/ Ferdinand etc. Colo looked a bit lost without him to be honest. But Colo wasn’t getting much help from anyone else. I do agree though he is weak in the air. But I think he is still a quality player.

Our big signings under freddy never really work did they! Luque, Owen, Boumsong etc! I actually prefer the way we did business with Jonas, Guthrie and Colo. It went a bit pear shape at the end with rushing through Xisco and Gonzalez. I don’t expect any big signings to be honest. Probably a couple of low key signings.

    Mind you TOON your right.

Fat Fred did always back his managers with our money.

Except the season after we played at the san siro and needed to push on to stay in with the big boys and signed LEE BOWYER.

I cannot believe what you are saying about Speed mate. He would do a better job than Butt and Guthrie put together at 38 years of age. He was a quality player.

Shearer was signed 12 years ago. In recent years our transfer policy has been poor. We have always been taken for a ride and ripped off with prices. Now the club won’t part with any money. We need something in between.
