Mark Viduka Leaving Newcastle In Summer

News today that doesn’t come as a big surprise is that Newcastle United will not be renewing Mark Viduka’s contract for another year in the summer.

Mark Viduka – will be leaving Newcastle in the summer

A number of Newcastle players are out of contract this summer and Mark Viduka’s name was conspicuous by its absence when new deals were offered to Owen, Ameobi, Harper and Butt before Christmas.

Newcastle wanted to see how Viduka would play after being out for 6 months with his Achilles injury, and don’t forget he missed the last game of the season at Everton, so he could be ready for the start of this season. He missed that date by several months.

But then Viduka, who has never started a game this season, suffered yet another injury by pulling his groin at Wigan on Boxing Day, and is out for another lengthy time, and there is no return date for him on , which tracks all Premier league injuries at the clubs.

Viduka has made just 22 starts in 18 months from a player who earns over £60K/week, so like Michael Owen, it’s been a bad deal for the club – just because of injuries and the number of games the players have appeared in – which is after all what they get paid for.

Apparently, Mark is now unable to make the number of appearances this season which would trigger an automatic one-year extension to his contract.

That’s another top wage earner off the books in the summer, and if Shay Given leaves it will be more than likely that Michael Owen will leave too, so the good news (if that’s the way to put it) is that the wage bill will be reduced so we can bring in some good new players.

Comments welcome.

Mark Viduka to Melbourne Victory next season.

    Fantastic news.

He was injury riddled and the top level may be too much for his body to handle these days.

Coming home Mark, will be the best thing for you.

good , he is well past it and just a mercenary, only good thing is if he comes back from injury he might play better as he is looking for a new club

    Owen, Viduka, Given

    Who next?

Then if the lads like Jonas and Bassong keep playing well there’ll be interest from better teams.

I get the feeling we’re being sold down the river here. Ashley is preparing us for a financial meltdown.

Young unknowns and Championship players don;t command big wages… which is fair enough – but ask the mackems – championship players bring championship football.

How stupid can some people be… why would Ashley spend nearly £250m on something & then send it in to meltdown (NE1), yes the clubs in a mess & we haven’t done anything to stop that by wanting the owner out, so for the past 4 months, you can blame the meltdown on us the fans, if we hadn’t wanted them out after KK went, who knows where we’d be now, just rty taking off the blinkers & look at what we’ve done!!
As for Shay going, I wish him well, he’s been a good servant to us for the past 11 years, so deserves our thanks..
Viduka was a waste of money in the 1st place, him & Owen are only with us for the money, so goodbye & good ridence..
If Zogs wants to go (again) then let him, JFK will get us some new players in, even if on loan till the summer & then Ashley & JFK can rebuild the team then!!!
Just remember one thing before you attack Ashley, if he’s hadn’t brought the TOON, then we’d be in the same state of affair as Leeds are & maybe worse off, as FFS & SJH had us in so much debt, we’d not have come back from it, so think that one out!!!
    Roll on 2009.. 🙂

at the end of the day even if Given, Owen and Viduka go theyre all players that have seen the best of their careers! plus saving 200k a week by these 3 alone is a lot of pennies! think best thing to do is see how our signings pan out this month! even though names linked so far aint right cracking in summer we signed some great players out of the blue! wouldnt be surprised if we get a coupla players that’ll surprise us!

Following on from what Cyprus-Toon has said, I just can’t get my head around how miserable, pessimistic and plain daft the responses have been on a story which basically reads: “Gifted but permanently crocked drain on NUFC resources makes £4m per year available for new players”.

Honestly, you lot – call yerselves fans? One ancient, non-performing drain on our resources is finally removed from the wage bill, and you reply with “WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!!”

Happy bloody new year to you too.

Even I’m struggling to be optimistic now, I wouldn’t have minded Given leaving, but him publicly wanting to leave is another story altogether. We need stability and a secure future, it looks like it’s going to be with MA so he needs to show us what he can do in the transfer window, IF anyone will come to us.

In all honesty – you cant miss what you dont see – if that makes sense.

He wont be missed and the wage packet could be used elsewhere.

Mark Viduka’s contract not being renewed is not a loss to NUFC.

Although a very skillfull player he’s been receiving a hefty salary for 18 months for doing next to nothing.

    Good bye sicknote….

I’m sure Given doesn’t even want to be at a better team, he just wants to be at a team. Everyone pulling in the same direction and working together, we still haven’t had that since the owners took over, and due to the NUSC (who I see as having a huge responsibility in our current and future mess) the fans will cause a split now.

    You can’t just blame MA.

Everything at the clubs been wrong:
    1. Owner hasn’t supported managers
    2. KK hasn’t listened to the owner or fans
    3. Fans demonstrating against the owner
    4. Supporter groups forming against the club

8 months (or so) ago we should have been renamed Newcastle Reunited, now it should just be Newcastle.

A brilliant player on his day, but he gets about three of those annually. I don’t think he’s a mercenary, I just think he’s injury-prone. If you’re injured, you’re injured, simple as that. Either way, he’s not giving us value for money. Send him off to Australia to finish his career somewhere warm with a lower intensity of game and we can find a new, fit, cheaper replacement. Everyone wins.

As for Owen, sell him asap. There is NO chance of him signing in the summer. He knows we’re not going to win silverware for years and his career isn’t going to last forever. If Shay can see it, so can he. Let’s get a fee for him.

I’m also totally in agreement with Cyprus-Toon and Whumpie. Ashley wants the club to be a success, it genuinely is the only way of him protecting his investment. If we all get behind the club we can get back to making some of the suprisingly good signings that we made in the summer and start building a new, fresh, hungry team. The foundations are there with Coloccini, Guiterrez, Bassong, Harper, Taylor, Martins etc…

The ONLY people associated to the club that deserve any praise whatsoever are the players (yes, even Joey Barton deserves more praise than the owner, ex-manager, directing manager, NUSC, AND fans). And it’s even showing that they are now becoming to pissed off to want to stay.

Sheffield United have rejected a £3 million bid from Newcastle for Kyle Naughton. Joe Kinnear, the Newcastle manager, wants to make the right back, 20, one of his first signings in the transfer window. The Coca-Cola Championship club value Naughton, who was called up to the England Under-21 squad this season, at more than double what Kinnear has offered.

    Aye little willie
until a club smaller than NUFC come in for him then hes worth what they can get-or alternatively, if a richer club comes in for him then hes worth more than double what we’ve offered-skanks.
there should be an ‘independant’ tribunal that fixes the price of players, no matter who wants to buy them-not some sliding scale based on what the selling club thinks the buying club can afford.

lets get rid of all the big earning luxury players and get some grafters in, who fight for the team and train hard. Then we can move from there and hopefully get young players in who are the next Rooneys. A player, who both graft and play with style.

viduka will not be missed , lets face it he has hardly played since he joined us . As for Given we are well covered with Harper (as long as he signs new contract) Krul , and Forster so for a big Fee or swap deal for a top player let him go . Owen was only ever here for the money , i hope he does not get another game for us . Lets face it he would of signed the new contract if he cared about us and we need players in the team that care . The biggest worry for me is Barton , i have read rumors that Allardyce wants to take him to Blackburn . We need to keep him and play him and guthrie together with nzogbia and Jonas we then have a midfield that can get us up the table as long as they stay fit . We do need 2 more signings in that department though , Butt and Geremi are long past there best and need to be sold . Hope we get 2 good young players in for the midfield plus 2 experienced defenders and 1 striker .

in my opinion, viduka and owen are both firmly at the exit door which means we will need someone up top with oba. im suprised in the good old transfer merry go round that is january we have not already been linked with Podolski who would a fantastic acquisition for us. He is young at only 23, is a proven goalscorer at the highest level and more importantly can sit behind strikers and provide us an attacking midfield option which we currently simply do not possess. Whats more he has openly come out saying he wants to leave Bayern Munich and would like to try his hand in either England or Italy. Whats also key to me is he has already said the move wont be about money and he doesnt mind going to a team that isnt a major hitter as long as he is guaranteed the chance to play games. So even though moneybags man city and spurs have both been linked we could have a great chance of signing him if ashley coffs up. thoughts ?

oh and even though i may get shot down for this i would love to have jenas back, next to no chance of this happening but i have always thought he is extremely underated and should be knocking on the england squad door, he was talismanic for us at a very young age and now he is even more devolped as a player he could get us some much needed stability at the base of our team

Well I’d like to see the day return when we can hope for a lot better than Barton as the heartbeat of the side, but at the moment, you’re probably right.

CyprusToon and AngeroftheNorth – have a read of this:-
I know its only the ruddy Mirror, but its pretty funny with more than a nugget of truth in it.
