Carroll, Butt, Enrique And Taylor All Start For Newcastle

hull_city_badgenufc-crest3

A double surprise today as Joe Kinnear gives 6’3” Gateshead born striker Andy Carroll his first start of the season as Newcastle take on Hull City at the KC Stadium this afternoon. And Gutierrez is on the bench as Kinnear prefers his fellow Irishman Damien Duff at right wing.

The 19-year-old Carroll, who was expected to start last Sunday against Liverpool, will partner captain Michael Owen in attack.

Good news that both Nicky Butt and Jose Enrique have shaken off their injuries and both are in the starting line-up this afternoon.

As expected Sebastien Bassong returns from suspension to join Fabricio Coloccini at the heart of the back four. We need to see a much better performance from the Argentine following last Sunday’s less than impressive performance against Liverpool.

Steven Taylor is moved to right back, as expected,  to the exclusion of David Edgar, who is on the bench and Jones Gutierrez drops to the bench in favor of Damien Duff which is a controversial move by Kinnear.

TEAMS

Hull City: Matt Duke, Nathan Doyle, Michael Turner, Craig Fagan, Geovanni, Paul McShane, George Boateng (c), Sam Ricketts, Dean Marney, Daniel Cousin, Stelios

Subs: Ian Ashbee, Ryan France, Peter Halmosi, Marlon King, Kamil Zayatte, Tony Warner, Nicky Featherstone

Newcastle United: Shay Given, Steven Taylor, Jose Enrique, Sebastien Bassong, Fabricio Coloccini, Danny Guthrie, Charles N’Zogbia, Nicky Butt, Damien Duff, Michael Owen (c), Andy Carroll

Subs: Steve Harper, Geremi, David Edgar, Xisco, Kazenga LuaLua, Tamas Kadar, Jonas Gutierrez

Referee: Chris Foy

Attendance: tbc

Maybe he wanted to rest Jonas. He is not used to playing so many games. We can’t afford for him to get injured, so not a big problem.

    Hull playing 4 – 5 – 1 – we have no chance.

    Newcastle dont play well against 4 – 5 – 1 formation!!

Good on Carroll son – enjoy your game!

I can’t believe that Butt continues to get in the side. He was totally anonymous last week and allowed Gerrard so much space he must have thought it was Christmas Day again.

Disappointing to see Jonas on the bench but hopefully Carroll will get stuck in and prove to be a suitable foil for Owen.

    Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good move to rest Jonas. He really needs it. Although i would prefer Duff up front with Lua Lua on the wing

Its always interesting how Duff & Butt get slated before kick off. If you look at our paperthin injury prone squad there aint anyone to replace who could better them at this time.

Come on lads – if no win and a draw – lets bring em back to SJP for a spankin on home turf!

decent stream that lads. no Jonas is canny gutting but lets be honest he’s looked shattered past few games. Personally i’d have given lua lua a go but nevermind eh. glad to see Carroll out there, hopefully the hardworking positive carroll turns up.

Fagan starting, guthrie’s ganna get some stick!

Jonas is our best player this season, but prehaps he does need a break.

The other way of looking at it is that Jonas doesnt cross too many balls and with Duff and Zog, Carroll should have plenty of crosses to aim at!

With Hull resting most of their team ,we should win this one.

If we dont then Joe will have some tough questions.
