Newcastle United assistant manager Chris Hughton stood in for Joe during the interview after yesterday’s game and insisted that Joe Kinnear wasn’t snubbing the media after their 0-0 FA Cup draw with Hull City.
Chris Hughton – gave interview after game yesterday
We felt with a little luck we could have won the game, especially if we had taken the chances we had early in the game, when the first goal would have been all important.
But Hull also had their chances to win it, and in the end the game could have gone either way.
Hughton felt Newcastle were unfortunate not to have snatched victory.
“I think given the fact that we are the away side coming here, probably we edged it, certainly on goalscoring chances.”
“We are probably the ones slightly more aggrieved we didn’t come away with the win, but they are a very good side and showed they have a good squad.”
“It was a typical cup tie and became very open in the second half and could have gone either way.”
Hughton was filling in for Joe Kinnear and it seems the press were a little annoyed that Joe didn’t turn up for the intervie so Chris told them why he hadn’t come to speak to the press:
“Every now and again his throat gets a little sore – he does a lot of shouting on the touchline.”
It was interesting to watch Joe during the game since he seemed to have an ongoing discussion with the fourth official throughout the match – and yes Joe seems to talk a lot during the game and we’ve noticed he has a little cough now and again through interviews to clear his throat.
The press can hardly make a big story out of this molehill – or can they? 😀
