Joe Kinnear has talked today to the Sunday Sun about the transfer window, so let’s see what he says so we can better ascertain what our chances are of getting some good players into the club are by four weeks tomorrow, when the transfer window will close.
Xisco – to be sold in January – but he’s never had a chance?
It seems like one player Kinnear definitely wants to sell is 22 year-old Spanish Under-21 International Xisco, who we are told was brought to Newcastle against Keegan’s wishes, and was just one of the reasons for the volcano that erupted on the last day of the sumer transfer window.
When Xisco has appeared at Newcastle, he’s looked a decent player but hardly worth the £5.7M we are supposed to have paid Deportivo La Coruna for him. It appears that the sale of Xisco is the one that Kinnear hopes will bankroll his first signing with as Newcastle manager.
But whether we can find a buyer for Xisco, who is willing to pay anywhere near £5.7M, is a good question. Xisco has hardly covered himself in glory at St. James’ Park, since we’ve never played the boy, for one reason. Xisco now looks like on of our bad buys in the summer along with loan signing Ignacio Gonzalez, but only because the Uruguayan got injured.
Joe Kinnear told the Sunday Sun today:
“If we can get back somewhere near what we paid for the player we have in mind then I could go and get another player that I want for £5m,”
“One deal will automatically trigger the next one.?”
“So I’m banging on the door hoping that they (the buying club) will make a decision because the player that I want is wanted by other teams too.”
“The last thing I want is to let someone else get in there before we do.”
The Sunday Sun says that Kinnear is also eager to sell Enrique, after we signed the lad from Villarreal for £6.3m in the summer of 2007.
But we would question the validity of that, because Jose is again starting to play well at left-back and it seems he needs a good few games to get his form back, but he’s now playing quite solidly at left back. He’s good moving forward and has great left foot on him, and we like his attitude because he wants to stay and fight for his place at the club, and that can’t be too bad.
That doesn’t say we mustn’t get in another left-back during January, but he would then have to fight it out with Jose for the left back starting berth. Joe needs to fill out the squad which will add to the competition for places at Newcastle – and that’s what he’s trying to do, but with up front money not available, it will not be easy.
Kinnear continued:
“I just hope it never comes down to Mike suggesting to me that I sell Shay Given in order to free up funds,” “I’d tell Mike that Shay must stay.”
“Shay is an untouchable as far as I’m concerned. Shay and Michael are untouchable in January and there’s no chance I’d sell.”
Kinnear’s bid to keep Given will be sorely tested if we cannot unload the players we want to sell, like Xisco and Geremi. That’s especially true if Manchester City come in with a huge bid, and then Mike would be challenged with an important decision to make.
It certainly promises to be a very interesting transfer window for Newcastle – watch this space.

Comment #127Okay, well at least JK is clear about some of the players he likes and dislikes.
I don’t know…..if I were manager right now I’d be thinking about bringing in, say, 2 loan players and not selling anyone! Aside from which, it could well be that over time Xisco – and even Gonzales (once fit) – could both become successes for us. If JK gave them belief and faith. Then bring on the youngsters a little more, give them a few minutes here and there, and along with 2 loan signings (1 mf/1 dfd) and we could be alright. Rather than chop and change a lot. It all depends how well we do in buying in January, but it would help if JK has several targets in mind for each position, not just one.

Comment #136If we don’t improve our squad in this transfer window then F|*$k fat Ashley. I’ve stood by him long enough thinking he way well dig deep and invest our get Owen on another contract but what do we have?! a bargain basement manager with no funds having to work with nearly a whole team who are unsettled and wishing they’d be allowed to leave. If given goes then so do I, I’ll start supporting cardiff city.
Ohhh and if he doesn’t invest at least 10 million (A certian James millner comes to mind) I’ll jump on a bus from Wales and come and help protest!

Ashley, will run our club into the ground. He is asset stripping the club.
I cannot believe how some people are still siding with him considering what has gone on to date. Having said that I also think we have some agent’s provocateurs in our midst.

I agree mate!
Howver I still think Kinnear has funds at his disposal, as an early blog entry it had said Kinnear had made enquiries about 4 or 5 lads.
Now do you do that without anything to back it up, like transfer cash?
He HAS to have some when he’s looking to players. However when i see loan signings being rejected I do start to wonder.
Going to remain optimistic that he has money and we’l sign someone very soon of decent quality 🙂

Comment #141yeh it’s up and down with joe! one minute he’s making out we have a fair amount to spend and that no players will be leaving and the next he’s saying he’ll sell 3 for 16 million!!!! we’ve just got to wait and see, perhaps he’s just playing the press to keep people of his scent, and that there’s a few in the pipeline. Ohhh yeah didn’t he say he had a few irons in the fire? surely that means we’ve putting in bids! jesus, why is nothing simple when it comes down to nufc.

Comment #142Exactly, its too complicated at Newcastle always! I have faith in Kinnear as he’s Irish 😀 however now Rangers said they’ve had no approach from anyone for Ferguson!
Would that be, because Kinnear ha=s been told the piggy bank is empty?!
Hopefully not.

Comment #143Some Deportivo fans laughed when we bought Xisco and commented that he was the second worst player in their League. It would be nice to see many players off loaded this month. If Taylor is so great surely some of the big four will be ready to lash out 8-10 million on him. I would like to see the back of Nzogbia too, not the player he thinks he is imo. Of late theres only Bassong and Guiterrez whos impressed me, Given goes without saying. As far as who should leave well I’d end up with writers cramp. We are pretty much going to have to start from scratch, Cacapa, Geremi, Smith, Butt, Enrique, Ameobi, Duff, Xisco and dare I say it Taylor arent the answer if we want to make a dent on European places.

We’re not going to be challenging for Europe my son, not this season, not next!
Get realisitic, we have to survive a relegation scare yet again this season and unless there are major changes towards the end of this season it will remain the same old, same old as much as I hate saying it 🙁

Comment #146why would ashley asset strip a £250 million investment.
so what you are saying sell everyone might get £100 million
he paid £134 million for the club
club still owe him £100 million.

Comment #148estecho – it is not the same tony jimenez, the tony jimenez who was at the toon is not spanish for starters, and he is not an agent either, he was a property developer who had contacts in the game through property deals.
but xisco is crap and is not up to the premiership, no pace, no strength, crap 1st touch, and backs out of challenges, i know i dont want someone in a relegation battle who offers pretty much nothing to the team!!

He is a talent, believe me.
He was barely let go at Deportivo and he kept them from relegation.
He scored 5 goals in 2 games to heave them from the relegation zone and continued to impress.
He is rated 88/100 on World ratings, (done by former footballers like Alan Shearer, Lee Dixon etc) and thats not bad for a guy who sits on the bench all the time.
Saying that he obiously isin’t impressing in training for Kinnear to play him.
however I would like to see him play more regularly and see what he’s really made of.
You can only really judge a player from 10- 15 games IMO.

But if it doesn’t happen what a bummer.

we were suprised that jonas come in and approaches for modric and amiar had been made but for the latter two the terms were agreed but for them to pull the plug and go else where.
So we just have to wait and see.
I am pretty confident though.

one of his best mates plays at right back for us.
And his other mate plays for the scum.

One problem with public enemy number two (Mr wise) he seems to take a while to get them after terms are agreed.
