Good news – bad news today about a loan signing Kinnear wanted to make in January.
Michael Mancienne – great young Chelsea player
The News Of The World is reporting today that Newcastle have failed in a bid to take Chelsea’s 20 year-old Michael Mancienne, who has already been part of Fabio Capello’s England squad, on loan to Tyneside until the end of the season.
The bad news if that it’s been turned down, but the good news is that Michael is the type of player Newcastle should be after, even if it’s just for just a loan spell.
Michael, who stands 6’0″ tall, and has been at Chelsea since he was just 8 years old, can play at either right back or center-half and we suspect the reason the loan has been turned down is that Chelsea manager Scolari may want to use the youngster himself, he’s that good.
Don’t believe the reports that Chelsea said they didn’t think the player would develop at Newcastle, that’s nonsense.
The Isleworth-born player has played for all the England Youth teams and has already made 10 appearances for England Under-21 side, and has been called up for the full England squad too of course, on 15th November for the friendly against Germany, he’s such a promising young player.
Mancienne was on loan for a couple of seasons at QPR, and played 58 times for the London club.
Joe would have wanted him to play at right back, in place of the injured Habib Beye, and he can also play at center-back. Any young promising player needs games to develop further, and he would have got them at Newcastle.
Chelsea manager Phil Scolari has only just recalled Mancienne from a loan spell at Wolves and obviously feels Michael will make the required progress working with Chelsea’s first-team squad, and maybe getting a few first team games before the end of the season.
