There are reports today that Portsmouth’s Tony Adams wants to rescue Joey Barton from his nightmare at Newcastle United – isn’t that nice of him. 😀
Joey Barton – Toby Adams wants to rescue our player
It seems that Portsmouth boss Adams sees the creative midfield player as a replacement for Lassana Diarra, who was sold to Real Madrid for an amazing £20M, after Newcastle were after the player 12 months ago from Chelsea, when he was available at £3M.
But we’re pretty sure Joe would sell Barton to Portsmouth for £20M, so if Tony bids that amount, it’s a done deal.
The People claims that Adams has spoken to Barton’s representative and the player is aware of the interest. What they didn’t say is that Barton has no wish to leave the Newcastle club.
The Tyneside club have stood by Joey through his bad and embarrassing ways, but now the club is expecting Joey to repay them – and we think the Liverpool-born player has a good chance to do just that.
Barton last year spent a spell in rehab at the Sporting Chance clinic, which was of course co-founded by Adams after his own successful fight against alcoholism.
Joey Barton, 26, is currently recovering from a medial knee ligament injury but is expected to resume training within a week or two, and certainly when Joey did play this season, he showed more than decent form.
The People says that Joe Kinnear said he is already lining up Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson as a potential replacement.
But that’s not the case because we are trying to get Barry in to strengthen the squad, and increase competition for places, and of course Joe Kinnear has no desire whatsoever to sell Joey.
Another rather daft report from the Sunday papers – who makes this stuff up?
