Nicky Butt Suspended For West Ham Game

When Nicky Butt received yet another yellow card on Saturday, he was automatically ruled out of this week’s vital encounter with West Ham because he now has 5 yellows.

Nicky Butt – suspended for Saturday’s game against West Ham

The other worry after the Hull City game was the injury to N’Zogbia but it looked promising that Charles will be fit for Saturday, because it was a dead leg.

Chris Hughton told the Shields Gazette today:

“Charles was a blow, but we’re hoping he’s going to be OK,” “He’s got a dead leg, and he was very sore and stiff after the game, but that’s the nature of the injury.”

“We’re optimistic he’ll be OK for next week, but he certainly won’t be doing much training.”

“I’m not sure there are too many coming back for the next couple of weeks.”

“It’s thin, and at the moment we’re one short because of suspension as well.”

“It’s a question of trying to get players back as quickly as we can and not picking up any more injuries.”

But it’s always difficult to rush players back because if they do come back too soon, they are liable to get injured again.

While the performance on Saturday was a huge improvement over the previous game, we were still nowhere near our best, and we’ll need to show improved form this Saturday when we must try to take all 3 points off West Ham United.

The Hammers are 3 points ahead of us with a slightly better goal difference in the league, so a decent win could see us move above West Ham on Saturday at 5:00 pm.

Noes’ the time to start moving away from the relegation zone with wins, because the longer we are there, the worse things will become.

And wouldn’t it be nice for a chance to be challenging up the league rather than always fighting the relegation threat.

    Ed doesnt need mortal sleep!!!

I think he is about 6 – 8 hours behind us over in the US of A.

Does a spot on job in my view and should have won the blog award but illegal voting screwed him over on that one.

If Parker and Bellamy go to Citey then its even better news – well until we play Citey on the 28th (i think).

The guy consistantly gives the ball away when hes not busy hacking players in half and giving them free kicks against us.

The amount of goals he must have cost us this season is a joke.

Get Geremi in there, atleast he can put in through balls

I’ve often been impressed at Ed’s enthusiasm. I think he has adjusted his internal clock to UK time only to keep this site up and interesting, which is some kind of dedication.

Ed, keep up the good work. I enjoy your boundless optimism, although I’ll admit to frustration with many of the comments, which tend to emotional at the expense of rational. I know that’s understandable in football and all, but I’m not convinced it helps your site, or our cause.

Call me mad but he’s a better option than Geremi in the middle. In fact, I’m not sure people are aware how that he may prove to be a bigger miss overall than most of those who will leave in the next year or so, tired legs or not. Yeah, sure he’s had a few off days this season but which player hasn’t other than Bassong? Even Beye has had a couple of poor games. I’m still a fan of his until they put someone in front of me who will do a better job.

I think people will have a hard time finding someone who does a better job of running around like a pensioner and constantly giving the opposition possession than Butt.

Problem is most of us want a decent noncripple

My point being – what or who else do we have available to us? Nicky Butt is a good pro as well. My implication being that we’ll miss him on and off the pitch. You just won’t see the difference off the pitch. If we get a decent replacement in, it’ll be like he was never here. I’m doubtful though.

if he was on la time then it would around 5 o’clock in the morning and he would have been up for around 2 hours already at least…. i just dont think that anyone would make that sacrifice – to live 8 hours ahead of where you’re living. it makes no sense!!

Butt gets slated just like Speed used to get slated, its just when these players aren’t playing then you realise how much you need them. He’s had some pretty good games this season but he will always be picked on for mistakes that he’s made. Yet Colocinni makes mistake after mistake but people say what a magnificent buy he’s been, and that its just Taylor that makes him look bad. We got torn apart in the home game to West Brom without Butt, I just hope we fare better on Saturday.

As being said we have Geremi available.

Equally as slow as Butt but can actually put some through balls over the top. Hes joint on our top assists isnt he, yet barely ever gets a game.

Owen has already praised playing with him.

I have been slating Butt for a while, simply because i noticed a few months ago that he has little effect on our game. Since then ive been very aware of his particular performance in these games and he does VERY LITTLE.

The ball is mostly passed past him, he doesnt get his head near the ball anymore as he once used to. He’s to slow to track the oppositions attacking midfielders as shown up easily by Gerrard, he has no idea what to do when going foward & barely ever puts in a ball to the fowards IF EVER.

The only thing he still does is tackle. I saw a statistic that 2 months ago that Butt was the highest tackler in the entire prem. A good thing surely?

He wins about 50% -60%, the next 4 down were all up in the 80’s. Meaning he gives away constant free kicks against us, the free kick sunderland won from for example, the pens he’s given away this season. Who knows how many have lead to goals against us.

He may aswell play for the opposition. Thats how bad he is.

No one can possibly say he has any use for us. He is BEYOND past his best & i USED to admire him as a good player.

Butt missing is good news but I think Kinnear will put Guttierez in the middle like he did against Stoke.

That wouldn’t be a good move.

JonnyNUFC – We did win that game, but we quite frankly didn’t deserve to as West Brom played us off the park. I’m not saying Butt is fantastic, but he is nowhere near as bad as some make out and still does a decent job for us.

I cant think of a single performance from Charles Nzogbia apart from the goal, many clear errors from Taylor (oh yeah he has a couple of goals this sesaon to his name|), outstanding performance from gutierrez going forward (except man u ) apart from running like headless chicken and saving defences ass, no bad performances by Duff (oh yes he’s definitely a better player than Zog),…..
Yet there are who are always behind some players like Butt, Duff, Taylor….i FOR one accept the fact that Butt is the best Holding DM that we have rite now, yes he dont boss the midfield and give away fouls & passes but still come up with leadership skills, experience & important tackles…Oh yes scapegoat they call such a creature…..

I do think Butt is important to us in a lot of matches, and that it’s hard to see how he does what he does. It’s ugly, but he often seems to be the reason things are settled at the back.

However, he’s no spring chicken and when he’s tired, he gets booked and gives away free kicks in dodgy spots. We need a replacement, and someone with better defensive nouse than Geremi.

That said, I think we’ll be fine with Geremi in there on Saturday, as long as Guthrie has a good game and our back 4 do their bit as they did against Hull.

Tron, we fell apart at stoke because Guthrie got injured…leaving Geremi with to much to do…only for him to get subbed and our entire back line messed around with.

Had nothing to do with Butt.

We were dominating that game WITHOUT butt until the injury and Kinnears messing around.

Worky, i used to think Speed was a class player for us.

What many of you arent seeing is that Butt is a holding player who is far to old to do this job. He BARELY ever makes a sucessful tackle anymore, the majority of his game is getting the ball off guthrie/the defence and making short passes to the wing or another midfielder.

Thats all he does anymore, its useless.

When was the last time you saw him win a header ? Or make a class tackle ? Or put in a great ball ? Or keep a good player quiet an entire game even ?

Doesnt happen. Best game he’s had was at Villa…and he was average at best.

I’d rather have Gary Speed than Butt.

Speed v Butt both in their prime, Speed everytime.
