Andy Carroll turns 20 years old today, and after his impressive start last Saturday at Hull City, he’s been interviewed in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today, and the boy seems raring to go.
Andy Carroll – good tall physical striker
Andy told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I want to start more games now and I’m hungry to do it.“I am enjoying the experience. I want play as often as possible and try to nick that first goal in the first team.”
“Playing in the first team is very different to the reserves.” “The players are a lot stronger and the pace is much faster.”
“You just need to put yourself about, and that’s what I did against Hull.”
Carroll seems to have everything it takes to be a good Premier League class striker, and his 6’3″ frame and strong physical presence are just two of the reasons he is tipped for the top.
And it would be a great time for Andy to come through this seaosn sicne the club will not Mark Viduka’s contract and if Andy can show he can produce the goods rhen we should be OK for striker for next season, unless Michael Owen elects to leave Newcastle in the summer, which has still to be considered probabale.
Andy plays a lot like Duncan Ferguson did when he partnered Alan Shearer at the club, and the lad can dish it pretty well just like Duncan – but Andy will no doubt do it his way.
Carroll added:
“I just try to play my own game and with my own style.”
“People might try to compare you with certain players or put names on you, but I just do my best.”
“I’ve got goals in the reserves which earned me a chance, and now I just need to push on in the first-team squad.”
And of course he seemed to play extremely well in the first half with Michael Owen, who had two good chances in the first 20 minutes against Hull City, but surprisingly failed to put either chance away. But Michael seemed to thrive in the first half having big Andy alongside him.
Andy continued:
“Hopefully, I’ve done enough we’ll see what the team is.”“I would love to get my first goal against West Ham.”
“But if it doesn’t come for me I will just continue to get into the positions.”
“Even if it took five or six games to come I wouldn’t worry, as long as I played well and did the job for the team.”
There’s got be a very decent chance that Andy will start on Saturday against West Ham, and if Matthew Upson makes that game, Andy could give the England defender a torrid time in the air.
Upson sometimes finds tall physical strikers difficult to deal with.
We wish Andy a happy birthday – and hope he can terrorize the Hammers defense on Saturday.

Comment #41Caroll i just hope he is not following the step of Ameobi….
He didn’t win much header
Gave lots of fouls
Miss good decent chances
Give the ball away easily
(All of this are Ameobi’s Abilities)
BUT its too early to judge him only after one match
so
If he can be twice what Ameobi is now then he will be a good player.

Comment #42If people watched closely in the second half at hull he seemed to be the only player (apart from possibly Butt) who kept giving the ball away and missed a very decent chance.
After paying £5.7mill i was SCREAMING for JK to bring Xisco on in the 60-70th minute, you have to give this guy a chance otherwise we’ll never know, after all he did score on his debut and has scored goals in the spanish league.
Its all or nothing now for xisco and if he did choose to start him on Sat and he played badly….then atleast we’d all know he was given his chance.

Comment #43He was also kicked in the face at the start of the 2nd half Mikey and spent a while off the pitch, he started to dissapear after that.
First half his positioning in general was very good. He definately put himself about, he set up owens clear chance on goal.

Comment #44Credit Richard Moey for bringing the youngsters on. Glad he stayed instead of taking over the Robins. Continuity so important at academy.
Looks like Xisco is refusing to play in the Stiffs and that may be why he won’t get a game in the 1st 11. Hasn’t had a match in 3 months. He should be demanding a reserve outing to keep his fitness up.
In the reserves, we often seem to do well enough for goalies, centre-halves, wingers and strikers. Now and then we get some young’un with potential in those positions. However, we never seem to develop anyone who plays in midfield or at full-back. Am I wrong?

Comment #45For those calling for Xisco to be given a run-out as the ‘big forward’ instead of Carroll: It’s been said (and it adds up) that the reason he’s out of favour is that he refuses to play in the reserves.
If that’s true (and why else has he not appeared for them?) then JFK is right to want rid. Poor attitude and arrogance that we don’t need in the squad.
I think Thelongshanks is right – wait until we get to a safer position, then increase the involvement of the younguns, especially Carroll and Lua Lua. Ranger too if we need something really new in there.
