The Sun is reporting today some bad news for Newcastle fans in that Newcastle striker Martins, 24, who has already missed 4 games with a groin strain, now faces at least six weeks because he needs a hernia operation.
Martins – upset when he was told he needed operation? – cheer up Oba
That’s a big blow for the club and the obvious question will be why have we waited so long to realize an operation was necessary, since that could have taken place a few weeks ago. Oba hurt his groin when he scored the second goal at Portsmouth on 14th December, so that’s a long 23 days ago.
Oh well, these things happen, but if Oba is to have an operation Newcastle should send him over to Dr Ulrike Muschaweck in Munich.
She is the surgical chief and founder at the “Hernia Center Dr. Muschaweck Munich” – which is the largest European center that exclusively specializes in hernias of the abdominal wall and groin region.
Dr. Muschaweck is the surgeon who had Michael Owen back playing (and scoring) after just 10 days, 14 months ago, and she is the surgeon who fixed up Shay Given in March, and seems to have made a great job of that too. She’s also operated on Alan Shearer and Steve Harper, and she’s simply the best in the world.
Dr. Muschaweck created “The Minimal Repair” method of repairing a hernia, and the operation is done completely under a local anaesthetic, meaning the patient is awake during the short procedure and can walk out of the operating room. It also means the recovery time is reduced dramatically and that’s good for people in sports.
At the very least we should send Oba to have Dr. Muschaweck look at just what is wrong with Oba, before anything else is done.
But this is another big blow for Joe Kinnear, who needs the Nigerian star to help his push for Premier League survival for our club.
To end this on some good news – it looks like Charles N’Zogbia will be fit for Saturday’s home game against West Ham after hobbling off at Hull with a dead leg. West Ham have gone five successive games unbeaten on the road – so it’s a good time for Newcastle to end that streak.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Everyone should read “Happy House” article on the True Faith website.
That is the truth. That is whats happening. Everyone suggesting we should sign this player or that, sell this player or that, You are being made fools of.
There is no point.

Comment #2We should now sign Leroy Lita for 350k (reported) as we dont have any pace upfront without Oba and we dont stretch defences without him.

Comment #4Hehe aye and he will drive him there himself in his skoda eh?
Martins deserves the best treatment possible, I would even be tempted to send him to the states if we need to. Germany is getting a good reputation though for this kind of surgery.
If he is out for 6 weeks then that shows how badly we need another striker. Owen might pick up another injury before long, then where would that leave us? Ameobi and Carroll up front?
I can’t see us playing any youngsters anytime soon can you lads?

Comment #5Really bad news. He changes are whole team completely as he has pace, good at winning high balls and scares defenders.
Ton_Toon – Lita is not a good player…350k is cheap but would rather give a youngster or Xosco a chance.

Well what can you do? MO & Carroll seem a good partnership. Carroll got more pace that Ameobi.
Lets have a strong attacking go at West Ham!

Comment #7Off topic on the Martins thing but has anyone seen the prices going for English players so far this transfer window
Matthey Upson -£11 mil bid rejected -they want £16
Jermain Defoe – “15 million back to Spurs
Scott Parker – £12 mil bid rejected
Wayne Bridge – £12 million
All these players are decent premiership players but that is about it. With that kind of money you can get real quality from abroad and yet your traditionalists in the media still complain when most clubs do and refuse to pay those ridiculous prices.

Im guessin its one of those articles that criticises everything, getting everybody pissed off, just so they can say “told youso” if we end up not signing anybody.

Comment #11Thing is with buying aborad i dont think we can get cheap players. The pound is really poor against the euro and if a team want 10 million euros, intead of being 6-7 million pounds its more like 9-10 million pounds. Im guessin that had affected the prices of prem players.

Comment #14Yeh but Pompey payed 9 million Defoe only last year, Bridge hasn’t played football for 2 seasons, Upson is nearly 30 years old and Scott Parker is garbage.

Comment #19Can you remember when Alan Shearer cost us £15 million. And that was for 10 years service and about 240 goals. Now it gets you a decent striker like Defoe who we remember couldn’t get a game at Spurs last season and now he will become their star striker.

Comment #30I just read it. It does make good points that we all know, about contradciting reports from Kinnear aboiut players coming in, and some of our players wanting to leave.
If this was wirtten on the 31s Janurary then i would agree with it and say that there is a reason to write it, if we have another shit ranfer window. But for know im going to stay mindlessly optimistic for 24 more days.
Sorry is nothing makes sense in what i just said as i cant bloody see what im writing!!!

Comment #33Thing is we all know Ashley isnt perfect, but we have got Thing is we all know that Ashley isnt perfect and has things to learn about running a football club. But people wirte him off from day one. And until a billionaire with alot of spare cash he wants to get rid of due to dodgy tax returns, we need to ensure that money is spent wisely (no pun intended).
The last thing we need is for everybody to get all pissed off at Ashley beofre the window is over. Although Kinnear needs to watch what he is saying as he is telling us different things every day.

Get Bellamy back,I know that he is an argument looking for somewhere to happen, but he would love being No 1 at Newcastle and I reckon he would do the business for us, my theory being that he has something to prove after after being given the bums rush from St James’.

Comment #38Joe Aussie – Belles was magic for us first time around but can we hope to compete with City’s cash in getting him here?
How many times will we do this …. wait until our senior strikers are injured then put the young uns in under pressure to do a job in the premier league?
We should be grooming Carroll, Xisco and Ranger in the last minutes of games when we are winning (ok not that often) alongside the main boys. We’ve chucked in so many youngsters in at the deep end and then get shot when they don’t look like Shearer…. just a thought.

Comment #40I think Bellers would jump at the chance to prove himself to the geordies. Just get that feeling that he has unfinished business.
Would be a good move but sadly for us Man City are in a much better position financially than us at the moment. Doesn’t mean they are the better option by any means because they might buy and sell half a team each year.
