Jonny Godsmark Developing Well At Newcastle

Jonny Godsmark, Newcastle’s 19 year-old attacking midfielder made a great start to 2009 last night when he made two goals and scored the other in the Reserves 3-0 win against Bolton Wanderers at Whitley Park.

Jonny Godsmark – made two and scored one last night for Reserves

And with Joe Kinnear urging the Newcastle youngsters today to take their chances when they come, no doubt Jonny will have impressed Kinnear last night with his all action display.

Johnny is very quick and of course was the Reserves’ star last night and Joe Kinnear and Chris Hughton are making it regularly to see the Reserve team games, so he will have enough chances to impress Joe and Chris.

Jonny said today:

“It’s always the hope,”   “All you can do is impress in reserve matches with Joe and Chris watching the games.”

“That’s all you can do, and if you’re lucky enough to get a chance in the first team, then you’ve got to take it.”

“I was pretty pleased with my own performance, and it was good for the team to get a good win.”

“For the first I was lucky enough to get it past the left-back, and I’ve ran 20 yards down the pitch. Nile’s made a good run, and I’ve spotted him. He never usually misses them.”

“I skipped past the left-back again for the second, and put a nice ball to Ryan, and he made the goal. It was a very clever dummy, and Frank’s finished excellently.”

“For my goal I made a run and it was an excellent run by Nile. It was a great start to the second half, and it killed the game off.”

Joe could do a lot worse than give Kazenga LuaLua and Johnny a run out late in some of the first team games this season, when it’s appropriate, and see how they perform.

Godsmark was an almost ever present with the Reserves last season, and scored a respectable 9 goals to finish top scorer.

If possible get to 40 points and then start blooding them. Would hate to break their confidence by making them the reason that sent us down.

Then again maybe they could be the ones who could get us 40 points!!!

In that article, altogether Hughes wants to offload

Elano, Ben Haim, Jo, Dietmar Hamann, Michael Ball, Javier Garrido, Kasper Schmeichel, Nedum Onuoha and Darius Vassell.

We could probably do with 3 of those, 2 from the 1st 3 and 1 from the rest

At 19, should he be so far off the first team? If good enough, the sooner players like Kadar, Godsmark, Ranger and Lua Lua (etc) are given ten minutes here and there the better! If they’re good enough, in time it’ll seem like we have many more options if we keep the experienced players we have too.

How tall was Pedro Beardsley ? I am pretty sure he was only 5’8″ or something in that region.

    to every1

i was looking at the spurs site that nuf-c provided

and seen a petition for a former spurs player

i realize we arent spurs fans but i think people should sign it any way

Walter Tull. Played for Tottenham 1909-1911. He became the first black outfield player to play in the First Division of the Football League when he signed for us and should have had a long and prosperouscareer at White Hart Lane had it not been for 2 things: racism and war. He was efeectively forced out of Spurs by rival fans who mocked our club to such an extent that it was decided to let him go. A sad day in North London because he was an extremely talented player whose only fault was that he was black. He fought in WW1 and became the first ever black officer in the British Army. He fought throughout the war, surviving virtually every big battle (Somme, Ypres, Passendale) and led his men at Piave with distinction that should have earned him the Military Cross. He lost his life in the last big battle of the war, the Second Battle of the Somme, and his body was never found. He never got his medal for which he was recommended because he was black and therefore could not qualify as an officer, despite actually holding such a rank.

I have started an online petition for Walter Tull to support his claim for a Military Cross. I heard that there was a growing campaign for him to receive the honour that he was denied in his day simply because of the colour of his skin and I wanted to add my name to the list of support. However, despite the fact he started out at Tottenham and played with us for over 2 years of his short career, there was nowhere I could find for Tottenham fans to show our appreciation for this man’s sacrifice. Northampton Town have created a petition as have the Northamptonshire Black History Association but not Tottenham. I really feel that is a shame as Spurs, being a much bigger club, could really add weight to the campaign and as such I have created my own petition for us all to sign.

Please add your name to it as this is something that needs addressing. Tull was a remarkable man and we should be hugely proud of his achievements. He was a proper yid and showed the sort of character indicative of Spurs. He thoroughly deserved the Military Cross that he was recommended for and it was denied to him simply because he was black. At the time, Military Crosses were only given to officers in the British Army and, although he had become the first ever black officer when he was awarded the rank of Second Lieutenant, the powers that be rescinded the claim for his medal on the grounds that the Army rulebook clearly states that a man not of pure European descent cannot be eligible as an officer

beyethegreat, There was a VERY good documentary about him on BBC4 recently, it’s well worth watching if it’s repeated. There have been articles in the press and spots on other TV programmes too. He was also in a tv programme on black pioneers in football a while ago too.

The only news today was that we can’t sell xisco this Jan, flucking great!

Why not bring up Ranger for Martins absence……in my opinion, he’s a darn sight more skillful than both ameobi and Carroll.

We should also give this lad and LuaLua a try…….in today’s game, speed kills.

We have fighters in the reserves but the management have no faith in playing them.

We’re doing an Arsenal regime but minus the chances given to them.

Put the kids up and we might have a better first team!

Pls be brave and trust ur players like Arsene Wenger!

The young ones need to be given a chance. We are not getting anybody in because the fat controller only wants to sell. Godsmark is a local lad from Guidepost and should be given a chance in the first team. Give him a go at home soon. Bring on the Geordies and those who want to play like Geordies e.g., LuaLua, Carroll alongside Martins, Kadar, Tozer etc etc. Leave the whingeing crew on the bench.

Would only want Onuoha and Elano out of them. Would be a good start to some positive signings.

6 days into the window and nothing, whilst Spurs are spending £15mill on a new striker. Howay man, buy some players!!
