Newcastle To Get Players From Eastlands And Ibrox?

There are a couple of clubs who have some decent players who, for one reason or another,  should be available in January.

nedum-onuoha

Nedum Onuoha – would be excellent acquisition for Newcastle

We just hope Newcastle United will take the opportunity and snap up some potential bargain buys.

One of those clubs is Rangers in Scotland, as manager Walter Smith has been told to trim the wage bill at the SPL club in January.

Newcastle have already been linked with potentially three of Rangers players – midfielders Pedro Mendez and Barry Ferguson, and Algerian center-back Madjid Bougherra,  and we could end up with a couple of them.

The other club that will be shipping players out is Manchester City, who are determined to continue pay ridiculous fees for players, if only to show they are the richest club in the world, if a very long way from being the best, which officially right now are their Manchester companions, The Red Devils.

The January transfers will go with the £50M they wasted (sorry that should say spent) on Brazilians Jo and Robinho in August, both of whom have been less than ordinary so far this season. Yes we know Robinho looks great in some games for a few minutes,  and then is nowhere to be seen for ages – and Jo cannot even get his game.

It seems that January could be chock full of transfer activity at Manchester City, as Mark Hughes looks to reshape his squad, with lots of cash available to waste. And during that time Man City will have some good players who may want out, since they will not get a look in at the club, if only because the players Hughes signs and  pays big bucks for in January, will need to be played – to justify their fees.

One player from Eastlands who would be a great signing for Newcastle would be England Under -21 International 6’0″ defender Nedum Onuoha, and reports suggest Joe Kinnear would be willing to pay £3M for the Nigerian born defender, who can play center back or full back – in fact anywhere along the back four.

That’s exactly what we need as cover in our defense, and at 22 years old Onuoha will only get better.

So we could do some business with these two clubs, and there are already strong rumors that we could take Mendez on loan until the summer, and then make the transfer permanent, if he plays well enough.

Don’t be surprised when we get two loan signings in, or as many as we can, in addition to new players arriving at the club permanently, as long as we can unload some of those we don’t want.

And if Man City do make a ridiculously high bid for goalkeeper Shay Given, look for Newcastle to accept it, and Joe Kinnear to try to get Joe Hart, their excellent 21 year old England Under -21 International, in part exchange.

There has been news that Man City are willing to offer £35M or more, for 30 year-old Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, so 32 year-old Given would be a steal at £12M or £15M, and he’s just as good.

In addition Shay has also played 11 years in the Premier League, and has twice been voted the best goalkeeper in the league, and has to be a strong favorite to take that honor again, for a 3rd time this season.

Indeed yes to Elano or Mendez.

No to Ferguson; don’t think he would be a better option ATM.

ed got to disagree with you on the robinho and jo issue, jo has been awful but i think robinho is brilliant if you have a covering center midfielder and u just give him the free role. I would rather of had robinho in are first team then any of the centre midfielders we have to be honest. I think he would be magic behind owen and martins.

I would like to see Mendes and Onuoha come in to the club. I think they would be very good cheap buys.

last week you were calling it a very bad day in newcastle’s history because given might be leaving, now its like you would almost like given to leave so we can cash in on him…….make up your mind!! i don’t see how cashing in on our best players when were in a relegation fight is good business

Mendes-Decent little player, not a chance we’re getting him. He’s been Rangers’ best performer this season. The mail im sure reported we’ll take him on loan with an option to buy for 1.5 million. They baught him for 3 less than a year ago, they’re not THAT stupid.

Elano i’d take in a heartbeat, i’ve said all along that if we were going to bring a ‘name’ in, in Jan then he’d be the one we had a realistic chance with. There’s no guaranteeing he’d rekindle his form of his first season, but starting him regularly and i think we’d see the best of him again. Creativity is what we’re lacking, definitly.

Onuoha i havent seen enough of to comment. Is he good enough? If he can play anywhere along the back four though, that cant be bad at all.

Once again Ed, i agree regarding Jo being a total flop, but i dont think you can really knock robinho, i’m sure he’s scored like 13 goals in 19 games, lol

Elano on loan, Johnson on permanent and Onuoha permanent please. That would be excellent.I cant believe hughes is willing to allow Johnson ot go.

I have said this many times but Kevin Thomson would be a good buy from Rangers. If not Mendes.

Elano, Mendes, Johnson, Barton, Guthrie…any two would be a great combination.

  • Whitey..I agree Robinho is going to get better and better..an amazing signing and my Jaw hit the floor when they landed him…I would love us to be attracting players with 1/10th of his skill.

You even look at the likes of Alan Hutton who was one of the best players in the Scottish league going to spurs and since then doing absolutely nothing when he has played. If you watched the Old Firm Derby the other week you would see how poor the standard of football is.

None of the Scottish teams won a game in Europe this year either which basically adds to the point of how crap scottish football is. An average player is made to look good in it.

  • I must admit when we where linked to Ferguson I was like WTF is going on : )
Scottish football is awful in my opinion and if we get someone like Ferguson I can see mayhem on the Toon.

Do you think Hughes will want to keep Johnson cos i know he hasn’t been available to him through injury. I hope not and we can get in there for him though it’s all very difficult to see happening.

mendes has done it in the prem. he is good on the ball and has a decent shot. Rangers won’t let him go after 6 months, especially on loan. He has been one of their best players.

Ed – What are you talking about! Robinho has been brilliant.

As for Mendes, we will never get him on loan, he is Rangers best player and they paid £3mil for him.

I’d like Onouha and if I had to take one player fron Rangers it would be Steven Davis, I think the rest are poor.

Now I feel the same as I have done in every window we have been in during Ashley’s reign.

Really sad state of affairs. : (

Mendes would be a steady signing but only at around 1.5 million, it would increase our options available in the center but we need another player to come in with him. Elano makes perfect sense but if not we should go back after that Norwegian kid from Rosenborg.

    Ed,
Interesting approach on given altho i believe hanging onto our best players is essential for attracting in any possible good players as players want to play with good players and selling given would make it look like were a club on the fall not the up and guys ashley has to invest hes not tht stupid if we dropped into the championship he’d loose to much money he may not want to invest but he knos he needs do because he cant risk loosin out on 100mil cos we are a championship side cos cmon who will pay 300mil for a championship team:S anyways tht makes sense to me altho he says hes running it as a going concern which means watevas in must be used to invest but he’ll kno we need investment and if hes not bright enuf too tht then im afraid folks we are doomed to fizzy pop league:(

your spot on like Newcastle are crying out for a player with real flair like the robinhos of this world. People might argue gutierrez and i would agree to a certain exstent but its his determination that brilliant about him. I would love to see a great skillful player who can score goals in are first team because it would improve us a lot

Is that the Steven Davis who was at Villa and then Fulham. If he is who i think he is then why could he not succeed at those clubs in the prem. Could be another case of the scottish league making a player look better than what he is.

dan157-Celtic won one did they not, their meaningless home game against villa real, 2-1 maybe? but aye, you’re right about the standard of scottish football. I have lived in scotland for 4-5 years now, and naturally all my mates are fans of scottish teams, so i am at times forced to watch the SPL, and its not pretty. Alot of scottish people go on about how the premiership isnt that brilliant, and how the SPL isnt far off, but without doing it just to wind them up, i could probably quite genuinly count on one hand the amount of SPL games i’ve seen and found exciting

I dont know, someone said earlier on the blog that Hughes didnt want him, but i dont know i thats true. It really depends on how much citeh invest on their centre midfield area and with the bid for Parker it seems like they want new players their.

Saying that i think there will be better teams wanting him if hes available and he signed a contract until 2013.

We have to snap up the youngsters like bassong.

We’re supposed to have this brilliant scouting system according to Ashley which enables us to find players before other clubs and recognise their ability first.

Same way we got Bassong, Gutierrez, Guthrie etc

So wheres that atm ? We cant have been scouting ONLY players the likes of man city, villa, tottenham etc are aware of.

  • One big team will go down this season..it is law of averages..few of the players we have give a toss about the club so when it comes to a survival battle they will roll over like little puppies woof woof.
