There are a couple of clubs who have some decent players who, for one reason or another, should be available in January.
Nedum Onuoha – would be excellent acquisition for Newcastle
We just hope Newcastle United will take the opportunity and snap up some potential bargain buys.
One of those clubs is Rangers in Scotland, as manager Walter Smith has been told to trim the wage bill at the SPL club in January.
Newcastle have already been linked with potentially three of Rangers players – midfielders Pedro Mendez and Barry Ferguson, and Algerian center-back Madjid Bougherra, and we could end up with a couple of them.
The other club that will be shipping players out is Manchester City, who are determined to continue pay ridiculous fees for players, if only to show they are the richest club in the world, if a very long way from being the best, which officially right now are their Manchester companions, The Red Devils.
The January transfers will go with the £50M they wasted (sorry that should say spent) on Brazilians Jo and Robinho in August, both of whom have been less than ordinary so far this season. Yes we know Robinho looks great in some games for a few minutes, and then is nowhere to be seen for ages – and Jo cannot even get his game.
It seems that January could be chock full of transfer activity at Manchester City, as Mark Hughes looks to reshape his squad, with lots of cash available to waste. And during that time Man City will have some good players who may want out, since they will not get a look in at the club, if only because the players Hughes signs and pays big bucks for in January, will need to be played – to justify their fees.
One player from Eastlands who would be a great signing for Newcastle would be England Under -21 International 6’0″ defender Nedum Onuoha, and reports suggest Joe Kinnear would be willing to pay £3M for the Nigerian born defender, who can play center back or full back – in fact anywhere along the back four.
That’s exactly what we need as cover in our defense, and at 22 years old Onuoha will only get better.
So we could do some business with these two clubs, and there are already strong rumors that we could take Mendez on loan until the summer, and then make the transfer permanent, if he plays well enough.
Don’t be surprised when we get two loan signings in, or as many as we can, in addition to new players arriving at the club permanently, as long as we can unload some of those we don’t want.
And if Man City do make a ridiculously high bid for goalkeeper Shay Given, look for Newcastle to accept it, and Joe Kinnear to try to get Joe Hart, their excellent 21 year old England Under -21 International, in part exchange.
There has been news that Man City are willing to offer £35M or more, for 30 year-old Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, so 32 year-old Given would be a steal at £12M or £15M, and he’s just as good.
In addition Shay has also played 11 years in the Premier League, and has twice been voted the best goalkeeper in the league, and has to be a strong favorite to take that honor again, for a 3rd time this season.
