Chris Mort May Be Coming Back As Newcastle Chairman

The Daily Express is reporting today that Mike Ashley is thinking about bringing Chris Mort back as Newcastle Chairman, and also offering Dennis Wise a different job at the club in charge of bringing Newcastle’s talented youngsters through.

Chris Mort – popular former Chairman at Newcastle – coming back?

A Newcastle source revealed to the Daily Express today:

“The owner has realized he made mistakes which he now needs to rectify as he is staying on.”

“He is considering a couple of things to shake up the boardroom in a bid to win back the support he lost over the Keegan fiasco.”

“He is already thinking of removing Wise from his current position.”

“That’s not just because of the way he is regarded by the fans, but also because of the lack of quality the club have brought in since he took charge over transfer policy.”

“Mort is also expected to be offered the role of chairman again as he was popular in his short spell in charge.”

“However, nothing is likely to happen until the transfer window closes as it would be madness to cause upheaval at this time of the season.”

This could be a trial balloon being put out by Ashley, and the big move Mike can make is to announce Chris is returning and he could even make the announcment now, if it’s already a done deal, and say Mike will take up his duties following the end of the transfer window.

That will go a long way to making Newcastle fans a lot happier about the future of the club.

As far as Dennis Wise goes, we had thought he was doing OK with bringing in new players, but if Mike isn’t satisfied then he can sack him, or if Dennis wants to coach the young lads at the club, which we would doubt, then he could do that.

He would need to be at Newcastle to do that and we’re sure he wants to keep his family in London.  And we’re still not convinced it was Dennis who caused all the rumpus in September, but more likely to be Derek Llambias – whose surly character seems to have grated on Keegan. Certainly Llambias has hardly ingratiated himself with the Newcastle fans, that’s for sure.

Llambias should be moved out if Chris comes back, and Mike can put the Llambias appointment down to one huge mistake.

We think if Chris has remained Chairman at the club,  then Kevin Keegan would still be manager, and we’d not be in this terrible mess we’re in right now. And in our still active poll on our home page , 83% of our readers would like to see Chris back as Newcastle Chairman, on a long term basis.

But that should also tell Mike Ashley just how important Mort was at Newcastle when he was Chairman.  He’s well respected by Newcastle fans as a man who listened to the fans, put the club at work for the local community, and put a very professional face on our club, which hadn’t happened for eons.

Oh, and Chris also talks to the Newcastle fans and actually tells them what’s happening – and since Mike does none of that,  we need Chris back at the club that’s for sure.  😀

Let us know what you think.

typical ashley,as soon as a window comes around, these are the only signings you ever get from him.
this is not a dig at chris because he,s basically an okay bloke, but this is typical mr penny pincher in action.
no cash signings but a reshuffling of the pack to make it look like we are doing something.
mort will come in take the heat off joe, then he will statr peddling his flannel which will go along the lines of january is a bad month for buying players,we dont just want to park players etc etc sound familiar?
please people see this f**king con man for what he is ffs.

The lads on .com have said Mort won’t be back just yet but i don’t know where they get their information from.

Wise would just change his job title to appease the fans, his job would still be the same.

Thought I read somewhere this morning that Mort had said he’s been to a few games as a fan, but WON’T be coming back in any kind of role

I hope this is true about Mort and Wise being out ..as wise has only brought trouble to the club, he got lucky with Spiderman and Bassong but not much luck elsewhere … KK supposedly picked Guthrie who is a good signing in my view .. but the jury is out on Collo – I can’t header — cini

Chris Mort has already denied this story

    From nufc.com

    Latest:
    No CM comeback

Following recent media speculation, former Newcastle United Chairman Chris Mort has made it known that
he’s had no contact from Mike Ashley regarding a return
to his previous role – or any other position at SJP.

Mort confirmed that he has attended some Newcastle games this season, but purely as a fan and not on any official basis.

this is what happens all the time with ashley,it,s all predictable crap, tbh it is worse than a tory cabinet reshuffle.
these moves are made to steer the fans away from the transfer window lack of activity.it was the same last january.
mike ashley must think we are all f**king stupid.

I think the editors of nufc.com and true-faith actually know Chris Mort. They met him a few times when he was chairman according to Mick Martin (ed of true faith) and got on well with him.

Seriously who gives a flying about Keegan? Give it up will you? Chris Mort isn’t going to save us either.
People talk about not trusting Ashley and how he hasn’t a clue. Yet when he’s appointed who the fans wanted in the past it’s just caused bother.
He’s doing it again. Everyone p155es and moans that Mort should return and Wise should not have his current role. Ashley tries to curry favour with the fans by doing exactly that. What more do you want from the man? He is just doing what you want?
    IMHO it’s madness.

Didn’t Chris Mort once say that Allardyce’s job was safe then 3 days later he was sacked. Just shows how much authority he had anyway doesn’t it except for spoonfeeding the fans with tattle.

mickytoon, the only way this is going to stop is if the communication has got to be a thousand percent better.
ashley would be better served now by having a face to face meeting with the fans, because the uncertainty is his fault.

They want him to invest in the squad micky.

Its not a massive ask with him having spent 3 mill over 4 transfer windows so far is it.

The issue is his claim he’d put 20 mill into us each season, yet none of us are seeing this 20 million.

He may be paying off debts, or whatever. But the ridiculous lack of communication will simply create frustration because of this.

We want news on transfers and who is coming in to bolster our squad. All we get from the club is Ameobi has signed, Chris Mort might come and Dennis Wise might change job. Great!!

It’s almost certainly just tabloid guff, but if it isn’t, then these two moves from Ashley would be as important as any signing.

Not that they’d negate the NEED for signings – but they would correct the fundamental problem that’s plagued us for months now.

    Gowarrrn Mike – do it!!

For those clamouring to bring back Mort, remember it was his plan that was implemented by Ashley to bring in a DOF (Denis Wise) to oversee transfers and bringing in young talent, so that the club stopped wasting huge transfer fees on overpaid and underperforming footballers at the end of their careers

I wouldn’t take much notice of David Craig. He said there was going to be a signing today. Unless he meant Ameobi, in that case he was right. The club probably know Harper and Butt will sign. But want to save the news and spread it out over the transfer window to cover up the fact we have no signings!
