The Daily Express is reporting today that Mike Ashley is thinking about bringing Chris Mort back as Newcastle Chairman, and also offering Dennis Wise a different job at the club in charge of bringing Newcastle’s talented youngsters through.
Chris Mort – popular former Chairman at Newcastle – coming back?
A Newcastle source revealed to the Daily Express today:
“The owner has realized he made mistakes which he now needs to rectify as he is staying on.”
“He is considering a couple of things to shake up the boardroom in a bid to win back the support he lost over the Keegan fiasco.”
“He is already thinking of removing Wise from his current position.”
“That’s not just because of the way he is regarded by the fans, but also because of the lack of quality the club have brought in since he took charge over transfer policy.”
“Mort is also expected to be offered the role of chairman again as he was popular in his short spell in charge.”
“However, nothing is likely to happen until the transfer window closes as it would be madness to cause upheaval at this time of the season.”
This could be a trial balloon being put out by Ashley, and the big move Mike can make is to announce Chris is returning and he could even make the announcment now, if it’s already a done deal, and say Mike will take up his duties following the end of the transfer window.
That will go a long way to making Newcastle fans a lot happier about the future of the club.
As far as Dennis Wise goes, we had thought he was doing OK with bringing in new players, but if Mike isn’t satisfied then he can sack him, or if Dennis wants to coach the young lads at the club, which we would doubt, then he could do that.
He would need to be at Newcastle to do that and we’re sure he wants to keep his family in London. And we’re still not convinced it was Dennis who caused all the rumpus in September, but more likely to be Derek Llambias – whose surly character seems to have grated on Keegan. Certainly Llambias has hardly ingratiated himself with the Newcastle fans, that’s for sure.
Llambias should be moved out if Chris comes back, and Mike can put the Llambias appointment down to one huge mistake.
We think if Chris has remained Chairman at the club, then Kevin Keegan would still be manager, and we’d not be in this terrible mess we’re in right now. And in our still active poll on our home page , 83% of our readers would like to see Chris back as Newcastle Chairman, on a long term basis.
But that should also tell Mike Ashley just how important Mort was at Newcastle when he was Chairman. He’s well respected by Newcastle fans as a man who listened to the fans, put the club at work for the local community, and put a very professional face on our club, which hadn’t happened for eons.
Oh, and Chris also talks to the Newcastle fans and actually tells them what’s happening – and since Mike does none of that, we need Chris back at the club that’s for sure. 😀
Let us know what you think.

but its pretty tenuous & contencious (sp).
& on top of that it didn’t work if thats what happened.
I’m not a fan of conspiritorial stuff.
Sam went cuz he wasn’t ‘their’ man & KK was an obvious mistake, but, i think, a genuine attempt to give the fans what they ‘think’ they wanted.

I’ve looked at his stats and the most he usually plays is 18 games a season. He has also had about 10 different clubs

Comment #99Can almost guarantee that IF we get past Hull in the cup either our game or the Mackems will be put back / forward too!
Both of us are drawn at home and this will happen for safety fears.
Cart before the horse springs to mind though !
