Martins To Be Operated On By Dr Muschaweck Monday

Newcastle have confirmed that striker Obafemi Martins will undergo a hernia operation in Germany on Monday.

Oba Martins – will be fine after operation

When we heard yesterday that Oba was to possibly have an operation on Thursday we wrote the article If Martins Needs Hernia Operation Send Him to Munich, and thankfully that’s where he’s going.

The 24-year-old Nigerian will be operated on by the world famous specialist Dr Ulrike Muschaweck, but not until Monday, and she will hope to have Oba back in action in just a couple of weeks.

Martins has also diplomatically moved to distance himself from criticism of the club’s medical staff by his representative, but the facts are why did the team take over 3 weeks to realize he needed an operation, and how come he’s not being operated on tomorrow?

Oba should have been sent over to Germany immediately, so that Dr. Mashwereck could do an examination, and if she felt he needed an operation she could have done it there and then.

And of course Martins would be playing by now, so we understand that Oba may not want to criticize the medical staff, but the facts are there as to why it took them so long to realize he needed surgery.

Oba said:

“I wish to make it perfectly clear that I have never criticized the medical team at Newcastle United, who all do an excellent job for the club.”

“All I am concentrating on is getting fit again as soon as possible so I can be back playing and helping the team.”

As we pointed out yesterday Dr Muschaweck has previously operated upon former Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer and current players Michael Owen, Shay Given and Steve Harper among others in recent years.

Martins is one of eight players on the injury list as Joe Kinnear’s squad is stretched to its limits.  This is hardly an unusual occurrence at the club with Souness and Roeder also having huge injury problems during their reigns as manager at the club.

But in the end, we are very pleased that Oba will be going to Germany, because the hernia will hardly be a problem for him in his football future, that’s almost a certainty.

But we’ll wait to hear how the operation goes itself, from Dr. Muschaweck, but we’re disappointed we have to wait another 5 days for that to happen.

Yesterday’s reports said Martins had been booked into a clinic tomorrow. so we don’t understand that either.

I see Guthrie has the “flu”.

Someone might tell the club that there is such a thing as influenza vaccine!

On Talksport they have just been having a discussion about which footballers they think would look good in a dress. Danny Kelly thought Noel Whelan and Stan Collymore suggested Glen Johnson and Olof Mellberg.

Who does everyone on here think you could easily make look like a lovely girl? Fernando Torres has just been mentioned now.

If it means he’s not up for sale cos he’s injured then good. What a way to think about my beloved club 🙁

As for Given, if we had sights on becoming a major force then we should keep him, if not then sell….. I’d put my money on him being sold unfortunately.

Yeh our two argies would look good on a street corner. They eventually nominated Nesta and Maldini into the team with lovely girl potential as well. I think Ginola also got in there. For the ugly team it was beardsley an rooney up front.

COULD THE MEDICAL TEAM AT NEWCASTLE BE THE REASON THE PLAYERS NEVER STAY FIT??? MAYBE THEY DON’T REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING…I MEAN JUST BECAUSE YOU WEAR A LAB COAT DOESN’T MAKE YOU A DOCTOR…

Ther’s something definatly wrong, for the past 3-4 seasonsw we have topped the injury list for the majority of the year and I doub’t it that is just a coinsidence, it must have something to do with either the medical staff, the training faciliies or the trining regime, unless we just have a knack of bying crocked players?

p.s. How on earth do I get this stupid box out of the way of the thing that I write in? What a stupid place to have an advert!

I hope he gets good treatment and makes sure he is 100% fit before he comes back, love this player, fantastic attitude, brilliant person hope he sees out his career with us.

If only all footballers were like this, the sport would have a brilliant name.
