A little bit more good news today for Newcastle fans in that Shola Ameobi, a local lad who moved to the Walker district of Newcastle, from his local Nigeria when he was just 5 years old, has signed a new contract at Newcastle United, the only club he has ever played for.
Shola Ameobi – signing new contract today at Newcastle
What’s that cup in the background?
After Shola’s problems in the last season or two this is a bit of a surprise, but ever since Joe Kinnear arrived at the club in September, Shola has looked a much better player, and he today finally signed his new contract, after discussions lasted some 2-3 weeks.
And the deal is a three year extension to his Newcastle United contract, and Shola seemed delighted to sign the deal today.
The deal means the Geordie striker has now committed his future to his local town team until the summer of 2012 – a great deal for Ameobi, who is still just one goal short of 50 senior goals for the club.
And speaking exclusively to nufcTV, Shola said:
“I’m delighted to sign a new deal and commit my future to Newcastle United.”
Shola is a product of the Newcastle United Academy, which he joined on July 1st, 1995, when he was 13 years old.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Well if he was out of contract this summer – this ensures he still has a financial value to the club even if sold this summer, there was an improvement under JK – will still be injury prone – all round has to be a plus.

At least with the pay rise, he may be able to afford a cleaner ! Love that story.
Never his biggest fan and would have sold him last summer, but hey hes here now and lets get behind him, he is at least a good squad player and does not mouth off like some would when not picked.

Comment #17I dont care how he wants to live his life.
Look at times this season hes not been too bad.
We’ve invested money on clearing up his long term injury and hopefully we’ll reap those benefits.
Like i said i would have sold him last summer, but hes still here, which means hes a Newcastle United player, get behind him.
It seems far easier for fans to complain about players these days than support them.

Comment #19Shocking stuff, we should be trying to offload the injury prone players, for the last four years we have had an injury crisis, that is because we have bought too many injury prone players.
Ship out the Owen’s, Viduka’s, Cacapa’s and Ameobi’s and bring in some players with a good injury history(i.e. players with very few injuries in their career, like Collocinni)
We need a team with talent and skill but players that spend over half the season on the treatment table are no good to us, no matter how talented or skilful!!
Mr. Wise, sort it out!!

sometimes you might think he is good but then you look at his goals record
sometimes he looks skillful then he falls over
he has the worst balance i have ever seen
though the question is why am i happy he has signed a new contract

Comment #23For me, the fact that someone’s signed for us is good news and can only help. These things tend to trigger each-other, so let’s hope this is just the starter for 10 and that we’ll get a steady trickle of good news about the squad over the next 3 weeks.
Shola’s never going to be Robinho, but he’s done ok and I’m glad he’s staying to keep up the fight. We need squad depth, and he gives us some.

Comment #30We keep hearing that Shola will never fill his potential.
Prehaps he has, hes just not as good as we all hoped he would be. Then again it seems fans are not happy unless we get the next Stevie G or John Terry coming through our ranks! (ie Taylor)
He was never going to be a Shearer!
The lad is his own player, hes above average in front of goal, nothing fantastic, but is very good at keeping possession and holding up play. Two attributes we could do with in our squad as Owen and Oba arent that type of player and Vidukas always injured and away in the summer!
So just accept Shola as the player he is and very decent squad player!

Comment #40ED…. STILL WAITING FOR THE GOOD NEWS….
ed plwase run a poll on wether this is a good singing and i bet you find that 90+% think tyhat its not….
its players like him that are spoiling the chances of the young tallent we have at the club(chopra is a better player than him and had a better goal scoring record.) now its the same for xisco/ranger/carroll…
i feel sorry for these boys…..
im also getting a bit sick of the crap that comes out of jks mouth.. all he seems to say is the thing we want to hear, then say mike should be aloud to watch the games..
i havent been impressed with any of the name we have linked with…
another thing, in nov he said he has 2 players lined up already that would love to play for us.
WHERE ARE THEY JK
